Mid-Morning Presidential Matters

at

This morning,

Decent broadband permitting, artist Kevin Sharkey (top) will join us LIVE streaming above at 10.20am to explain why he pulled out of the campaign to seek a nomination to run for the Presidency of Ireland.

UPDATE;

Following a few minutes chat (above) we lost coverage. Sorry.

UPDATE; This doesn’t look like it’s happening. Enjoy part 1 (top) and we will rearrange a sit down with Kevin in the near future.

    You could render a service to contemporary Irish literary and artistic culture if you commissioned an art critic to review Kevin Sharkey’s exhibition and a literary critic to review the Collected Poems of Michael D Higgins. Let the two critics conclude with a considered comparative assessment of the oeuvres of both. This might swing a few hundred votes one way or the other in the October presidential election. It might boost poetry and art sales too.

      Do say a little more, in a technical sort of way, about Kevin Sharkey’s ‘daubings’. Is he influenced by Expressionism, Fauvism, Post-expressionism, Francis Bacon, Kandinsky, Miro, de Kooning or whatever/whoever? We need close art-historical and aesthetic analysis in order critically to situate Sharkey in the Western art canon.

          Google the names you don’t recognize, Frilly. I forgot to mention abstract expressionism, of which Sharkey might be a contemporary neo-exponent. At this phoney political time before the official presidential campaign begins, some critical analysis, by acknowledged art and literary experts, could help a few hundred undecided voters to reach an informed decision about possible candidates.
