Irish Examiner says Fianna Fail will dismiss the report on National Broadband Plan by independent auditor Peter Smyth, as a whitewash if it doesn’t confirm there was a breach of procurement guidelines.
“Saying “clear department guidelines” on canvassing by tender bidders “have been broken”, Mr Dooley said if the report does not confirm the breach there will be genuine “concerns at maybe an attempt at a whitewash”.” says the Examiner
And who was responsible for auditing procurement guidelines for the National Broadband Plan over the past few years, including the period in which the secret meetings between the minister Denis Naughten and the remaining bidder? Step forward, Mr Peter Smyth!

Fantastic reporting in the British Times today about a court battle in London between two Russian oligarchs, one of whom is Oleg Deripaska, the owner of the Aughinish aluminium refinery in Limerick which employs 500 and is under severe threat because the US is threatening imminent sanctions against Mr Deripaska (the sanctions were imposed earlier this year and then suspended a couple of times, and a final decision by the US is expected in the next fortnight, everyone is concerned particularly Leo and Heather Humphreys).
If you thought a certain Irish oligarch was bad, you should hear the accusations being made against Mr Deripaska!

Digicel has some well dodgy Chinese (state?) partners,in China what’s happening at Digicel is know as Lingchi,or a lingering death by a thousand cuts.
“Digicel Group Limited (“Digicel”) today announced that two of its subsidiaries are extending the early tender date (the “Early Tender Date”) and expiration date (the “Expiration Date”) of each of their previously announced Exchange Offers (as defined below) with respect to certain series of Digicel Group Limited’s outstanding senior notes.”

“That’s a tall order. Ireland has some biotechs, but its involvement in the industry is largely centered on manufacturing and its rep as a global corporate tax haven. Whatever becomes of the hub dream, though, big sequencing efforts have attracted the attention of a broad swathe of biopharma players, including Amgen and Regeneron, with GSK recently jumping into a collaboration with 23andMe.”

“The company completed the Series C round financing with investment from a consortium led by the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF), which has invested $70 million in this round and was the lead shareholder in Genomics Medicine Ireland (GMI). GMI was recently acquired by WuXi NextCODE as its Irish subsidiary and business headquarters in Europe, as part of a $400 million investment program positioning Ireland as a global leader in precision medicine and advanced life sciences. Other participants in the Ireland initiative and Series C financing include WuXi NextCODE’s longtime existing shareholders Temasek, Yunfeng Capital and Sequoia Capital. This financing round follows the completion of the company’s $240 million Series B in September 2017.”
