(First pic) 1960. Avondale Dairy, Waterford Street next door to Mitchel’s Rosary Beads factory. It was here in 1960s my brother aged 7/ 8 was caught stealing rosary beads. He was sentenced to 7 years Artane industrial school, escaped, capture, sent to Letterfrack ind sch, & FerryHouse ind sch.
(Second pic) He was rescued from FerryHouse Industrial School, spent two years dressed up as a girl to avoid capture, he was captured on his last year of freedom, sent to Marlborough House detention center & St Patrick’s institution to finish his last year. Photo Waterford St off Gardiner St

These stories deserve to be heard
Seven years (including rape, torture and slavery) for a child who stole a rosary. Rapists and killers are treated more leniently.
This is the second story I’ve heard of where escaped boys disguised themselves as girls to avoid recapture. Can anyone reccomend some good source reading for me?

Oh ,would you all relax and pop your heads out of your provincial holes. Ya’ll baptized your kids, got married in church and will all be down to mass when you visit home down the shticks this Easter. If you have so much concern for innocent kids then learn something about the thousand of kids being abused around the world this very minute by the very same institution instead of what happened to some kids in the same geographic location you happened to be born in 60 years after the fact. Remember that when you , your family and friends get fag-ash rubbed of your foreheads tomorrow.
