Words can’t express how saddenied I am, as you all are I’m sure, at the tragic death of Marie Downey & her new born son. R.I. P.
    Tragic.

Murphy, like the other boys, has to go. Himself, Harris and Varadkar are three of the worst wasters that this country has ever known. Boys thinking they can do grown-ups jobs.

You know it’s bad when the United Nations gets involved to criticise how FG have rolled out the red carpet to vultures who then buy up our property for a song while “massively inflating rents and imposing an array of heavy fees and charges for ordinary repairs – [..] having “devastating consequences” for many tenants”

      https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/mar/26/blackstone-group-accused-global-housing-crisis-un

And FG are the only politicians opposing the “no consent, no sale” Bill that’s before the OIreachtas right now. The Bill was introduced by the Shinners and has full FF support.

Also, front page of the Mail, Tipp county council, whose capital budget is overseen by Eoghan Murphy, spends €370,000 each on six homes for social housing. Tipperary, not Ballsbridge.

Traveller accommodation is the cheapest of all housing. It costs €24,000 per serviced halting site according to the Dept of Housing.

          1. Rob_G

I think it would be a mistake to include only the initial financial outlay, and ignore the much larger costs of continually servicing this accommodation (not to mention the wider costs to society that come with having a halting site nearby).

When people are declaiming the money that goes to private landlords, and saying the government should ‘build social housing’, maybe situations like this is why CoCos would rather have landlords deal with the type of that the CoCos are expected to house.

Also, the RTB, which holds a register of all tenancy agreements in the country, publishes its report on rents for the last quarter of 2018.

“annually national rent increased by 6.9% to €1,134 in Q4 2018, an increase of €73 from Q4 2017”

“the average rent for Dublin was €1,650 representing an increase of €120 from Q4 2017”

Two new rent pressure zones (thank God Almighty for Roisin Shortall of the Soc Dems for these) – Navan and part of Limerick city.

        You missed
        * The RTB Q4 2018 Rent Index shows that quarter on quarter rents fell by 0.3% nationally.

        1. eoin

If you look at the previous report for Q3,2018 you’ll see that the RTB has *today* revised the previous quarter, the Q3 quarterly increase up from 1.9% to 2.3% and revised up the annual increase in the year to Q3 from 7.5% to 8.6%. That’s a feature of the ESRI/RTB reports and one of the many concerns about the quarterly figures, and why many people want the compilation of the report transferred to the CSO.

A landlord has a months to register a tenancy (at which stage a larger fee applies). So you can either get provisional figures in a timely fashion or you can get accurate figures but need to wait longer. I’d love to see the breakdown of how long landlords are taking to register properties

Should RTB wait 6 months before relesing the data?

And I would support CSO getting the data too.

Also, Eoghan Murphy is lying through his teeth about the new building of social housing by local authorities. He claims local authorities “built” 2,000 homes in 2018. However, if you strip out “regeneration” and the acquisition of “turnkey” homes from the private sector, it’s just 1,200 but can you even trust 1,200? The Department of Housing point-blank refuses to provide the addresses of the 1,200 homes so you can check if they’re complete or even real, referring enquirers to the latest social housing report for 2018 which shows *some* addresses but in other cases just says “compulsory purchase” or some other descriptor without giving an address.

Deputy Catherine Murphy says Dublin City Council built just 21 homes last year despite Eoghan Murphy claiming they built nearly 140.

Poor auld Theresa May, “lame duck”? she aspires to that level of legitimacy. From the Times today

“having signalled her departure, Theresa May left the foetid committee room at 5.41pm. She was drummed out by a thrum of Tory MPs’ hands on desks. West Aberdeenshire’s young Andrew Bowie, one of her parliamentary aides, was at hand to hold her elbow down some steps. He silently steered her away, a gaggle of wordless attendants in their wake. Mrs May passed within two feet of me. Her face was set to a windless smile, shorn of energy or spontaneity. It had an avian quality, more a deflecting mask than an expression. “

What ever happened to presidential hopeful Norma Burke aka Bunty Twuntingdon McFluff? I think we’ll be hearing more about her shortly.

The “Oirish” Daily Mail is delusional. Sasamach has been a shambles from day 1. I can only imagine the feeling of impending doom the average British voter feels watching their elected representatives struggle with something clearly beyond their ability while their country moves closer and closer to the cliff edge. Utterly devoid of leadership and imagination, their parliament is a laughing stock.

Eoin mentioned Digicel/Dennis O’Brien bonds selling off again again yesterday,Haiti is one it’s most important markets,.The country has now by most measurements slipped into anarchy, with armed gangs attacking and shooting foreign dignitaries.

“Chile’s ambassador to Haiti has been attacked by armed men in a Haitian village during a visit to a clean water initiative.
Patricio Utreras was visiting a project run by Fundacion America Solidaria, a clean water NGO, on Wednesday alongside his wife and a number of NGO workers when five unknown men armed with AK-47s descended on the delegation.”

Just a FYI on yesterday’s letter from US Congress-here is the letter signed by 104 bipartisan Members of Congress.
“Recent protests in Haiti take aim at long-standing corruption and gross human rights violations at the hands of Haitian government officials and law enforcement. Last month, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights reported that 26 people were killed and 77 injured over less than three weeks. These incidents are not only tragic but deliver a terrible blow to Haiti’s development. ”

“26 people were killed and 77 injured” on an island into which we the taxpayer pour foreign aid, an island 500 miles from Venezuela, you’d think the Irish media might have covered this.
