From top: the PWC report into cost overruns at the National Children’s Hospital; graph depicting the original budget and additional costs
A report into cost overruns at the National Children’s Hospital has warned that the final cost of the project could exceed €1.7bn.
According to the review, “significant failures” occurred during the crucial planning and budgeting stages.
It found that the project could never be delivered within the financial parameters agreed.
It warned that risks remain with the project and if these are not effectively managed, it could lead to further costs rises in the capital works….

The usual clusterfupp so!
The Irish space programme would have cost less to get off the ground
Haha got off the ground – good one
Wasn’t the original budget €400 million, not €790m, in part because they were going to get third party sponsorship/donations.
Does the report reveal the name [surname, first name] of the person or persons responsible for the scandalous cost overrun.
You know, if you download it and read it you wouldn’t have to repeat the same questions 15 times a day
Lol
Again you mention an original budget of €400million. Can you provide any evidence for this?
What a stroke
And better still they either kept their jobs were promoted moved on with bye bye money
And we are stuck with a big hospital that will no doubt have closed wards because costs are out of control and the wages bill exceeds budget
Only in Ireland
Why do you care?
It’s CIAN. Are you not familiar with his work?
Because the truth is important.
There are huge problem with the NCH, and they need to be investigated and capped. IF we look at the real numbers we can quantify how large the problem is, and how to fix it.
But this kind of dishonesty serves to undermine honest rational debate.
I care because money is being leeched away from other services to pay for this white elephant.
Well, lets just say the QS, Linesight (formerly Bruce Shaw), gets mentioned 70 times in this…
So, the original budget hadn’t even taken account of VAT of €50m? Some of those other things I don’t know what they are, but surely VAT is a pretty important thing to miss?
I didn’t read it that way.
There is an additional €450 cost identified, and this is broken into a number of components, one of which is VAT (i.e. of the 450 million extra, €50m is VAT).
Ah would ye all cop on
This is going to hit 2 billion
And worse again
It’ll never
NEVER
Operate at full capacity
At least 30%
And I’m being kind
At any one time

Anyone offering odds of Laura Magahy sending Eilish Hardiman back onto the Hospital CEO roundabout
I guess that will rule out salary increases for Health Care workers for the foreseeable future ….
The QS’s can only cost what is put in front of them. Children will die because of this Harris. Something to consider before your next cute baby photo shoot because- it could be yours.
Extraordinary mismanagement at the highest level.
