If RTÉ won’t do it…

There has been a positive reaction to the recent launch of the Play Irish app – an internet radio station that plays exclusively Irish music all day and all of the night.

Currently the app offers a series of curated playlists featuring everyone from Horslips to Hozier, Snow Patrol to U2, but plans to introduce specialist shows created by some of Ireland’s best musicians, DJs and industry ‘movers’n’shakers’ are afoot.

The service is available globally online (at link below) or via the Radioplayer platform and mobile app.

Sinead Troy, one of the founders, said:

“Every serious music city or territory has its own small but cool radio station that champions new and exciting music. Play Irish will be ours to champion Irish music at home and internationally.”

Hear, hear!

FIGHT!

Supporting local bands which would then promote and support their gigs is a good idea. I don’t think they are aiming to be like spotify. Spotify pay almost nothing anyway if you are a band that is not a world famous name. At least you could sell copies of your albums at the gigs.

With you on that one. Their 3 headliners are all bands I will stay away from. Hozier just likes shouting the same thing at his mic all the time, and Villagers strike me that they are trying to make breathy out of tune disconnected lyrics into Art (That is James Joyce’s purview, thank you!).
And I was never that much into rap or hip hop, so….

I’ve heard 3 different songs of his, all awfully forgettable. And awful.

        But mostly, forgettable.

The link brings me to a page for Apple only? Then the company is UK Radioplayer that only makes Irish apps? Doesn’t pass the smell test.
