CNN’s coverage of this is absolutely shameful “journalism.” Blatantly trying to portray events to suit their predetermined narrative.
Has FG come out in support of an attempted coup yet? After all, Simon Coveney has already spoken on our behalf in Washington to support the speaker (called “president” but he might as well be called “ceann comhairle”) of the Venezuelan parliament. In February, Coveney said
““In the absence of such an announcement, I join other EU Member States in acknowledging and supporting Mr. Juan Guaidó, President of the democratically elected National Assembly, as President ad interim of Venezuela, in order for him to call for free, fair and democratic presidential elections.”
Back home in the Dail, Deputy Maureen O’ Sullivan asked on 13 February
“A Cheann Comhairle, perhaps you as speaker here would like to proclaim yourself President at some point and expect the rest of Europe to recognise you.”
And in fairness, the Ceann Comhairle Sean O’Fearghaill replied
“I am okay where I am.”
Well if the head of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, is now openly backing this latest military coup attempt, sure that frees us up from having to take any moral stand..all we need to do is keep our heads down and tow the line!

“The head of the European Parliament is openly backing a coup against the democratically elected government of Venezuela. The US and the EU bear full responsibility for the human toll of this military adventure”
Lybia mk2
I hope this stays peaceful, because Maduro is a mad b*****d and he will lash out if he thinks he is losing his grip on the army. Venezuelans deserve a peaceful transition.
Spouting CIA talking points again, junkface..
Yes, and he consulted his list too, to make sure he hit all the salient points. His masters will be pleased.
you hope a US backed military coup (somehow) goes ahead peacefully because that’s what the Venezuelan people deserve? please, enough already with the verbal diarrhoea!
