Orla Dwyer, in Dublin People, reports:
“A maypole that hasn’t been seen in Finglas for 175 years is returning this weekend at a fun-filled festival this weekend thanks to the dedication of a group of historical volunteers.
“The Finglas Maypole Festival has been planned for over two years, and the committee members feel 2019 is the perfect year for it to take place.”

“No crack on tik”
Nutsy was such a great footballer bitd…
The Maypole festival is a Germanic / British tradition – the only reason there was once a maypole in Finglas in 1845 probably had something to do with us being ruled by the Germanic/British Queen Victoria and thus influenced by her traditions of merriment. I am left wondering why Festival Vice-Chairman John CROMWELL is so keen on hosting a Maypole festival in Finglas. Anyone?
(Two inappropriate festivals on Broadsheet today and I’ve no pearls left to clutch and may need a lie down.)
It was either there or Phibsboro –
to hell or Connaught Street.
