Fine Gael’s Mairead McGuinness is the first MEP elected for Ireland in the Midlands-North-West constituency, topping the poll on 134,630.

Independent Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan looks set to retain his seat, after securing more than 85,000 first preference votes.

Sinn Féin’s Matt Carthy has 77,616 votes, with Maria Walsh of Fine Gael on 64,500.

Ms Walsh is expected to be the main beneficiary of the distribution of McGuinness’ 15,644 surplus. Tallies suggest she may take around 40% of the surplus, edging her nearer the quota.

10622 votes for Gemma O Doherty. Fair play.

And I see the polls have been kinda inaccurate in Mings constituency too.

        1. GiggidyGoo

After all of the snide remarks about her, I think that’s a pretty good retort, regardless.

          1. ReproBertie

Less than 2% of the Dublin electorate were interested in her anti-vaccination, anti-windfarm, anti-5G, anti-muslim, anti-rainbow, anti-unicorn platform. The only retort that matters here is that given by the Dublin electorate.

          2. martco

based on some of the recent chitter & friendface utterings I’d suggest she is in need of help. there’s a bang of Sinead off her

          3. GiggidyGoo

I don’t disagree. However there are candidates behind her in votes. No one having a go at them to any great extent.

          4. ReproBertie

You’re not paying attention if you don’t think Kelly and Murphy are getting a slagging.

          5. ReproBertie

Did you miss the post here when Murphy’s ramblings about abortion and breast cancer started arriving in people’s doors?

Kelly’s Irexit party has been subject to scrutiny and ridicule since it was announced. Rightly so given it seems to be entirely financed and run from the UK and was trying to astroturf a movement that just doesn’t exist.

GO’D probably attracts more attention because she spends her time posting insulting and inflammatory videos on social media. If she can’t take it she shouldn’t dish it out. I, for one, am very happy to see the electorate utterly reject her along with Kelly and Murphy.

          6. GiggidyGoo

Yep Repro. But are you saying that her supporters, whether 1,2,3, 4…preferences, are wrong in their choice?
By the way, Mr. Gimme more Dosh, Gimme Sterling, has had a good day. Now compare the two, and their supporters. All good in the land of the clever?

          7. ReproBertie

Why are you trying to put words in my mouth? I’m delighted her support was so low. I’m delighted she failed to win a seat. I have nowhere expressed an opinion on those who voted for her.

The joy of democracy is everyone gets to choose and they’re free to choose GO’D or Kelly or Fitzgerald or Cuffe. My disdain for their chosen candidate is merely my far from humble opinion.

      6659 first preference.
Intrestingly over 1000 transfers came from actual Trots.

  2. realPolithicks

Any truth to the rumor that maria bailey had two pints in her hands when she nosedived off the swing?

    1. ReproBertie

Twitter now reporting that her Sean O’Rourke interview was not approved by FG which means she’s got some splaining to do…

      1. realPolithicks

It sounds like they are trying to put some of the blame for their poor showing in the election on her.

Yeah, I don’t get this narrative at all.
The electorate basically just swapped Sinn Fein for the greens because “green is like eco and stuff” and this is a loss for Fine Geal?

          2. Vanessa the Holy Face of Frilly Keane

You’re entitled to make that point Cian
I even predicted a blueshurt bump myself

But there’s no denying Bailey was cyclically shafted by Fine Gael here
The Indo drove this story from the off
And distracted the news cycles away from Frances Fitzs not quite 22% in the (push) poll campaign
and lads calling for Eoghan Murphy to be removed
Fine Gael strategists needed to get Housing, Co-Living and Maurice McCabe out’ve the doorsteps
            And well you know it

Besides the Indo wouldn’t have gone all out unless they had permission

But one thing they took their eye off the ball on
            Durkan
And the the party voters attitude to Parachute Candidates

          3. GiggidyGoo

Except FF have come back almost enough to give FG the two fingers. Leo won’t like that. And the knives are out for Murphy and also Leo.

    2. dhaughton99

One bottle but grabbing for a bottle of wine, but that’s for the judge ponder.

  3. Worlds Biggest Ranter

Mairead does appear to be leaning in to Enda quite inappropriately !

      1. millie st murderlark

That’s the true measure of an election.

        “How many miggledys is it?”

  4. dhaughton99

And all you philistines made fun of Maria for posting some awful video last week. Who’s laughing now?

  5. Brother Barnabas

looks like saoirse mchugh won’t quite make it – silver lining to that is that we’ll hopefully see her elected in the next GE

would prefer to have her here than in europe

    1. GiggidyGoo

She came out yesterday and said that if the Greens went into government with FF or FG she would resign. (Think it was her anyway).
If so, she’ll hardly be on the Green ticket.

      1. Brother Barnabas

        yes, she did

still, though – whether as a Green or an Independent, she’s exactly the sort of politician we need

    2. Vanessa the Holy Face of Frilly Keane

      One ah’ those Dublin By-Election
      (If there is one)
      Seats
Might be hers for the taking

Things are going from bad to worse for the Shinners.

In Northern Ireland, their MEP candidate Martina Anderson is likely to come #3 in the election (still enough to make it) compared with 2014 when she was #1 and elected on the first count beating the quota. Shinner share down 3%. DUP share up 1%.

And the great news is, Alliance is likely to take the second seat and replace the Ulster Unionist Party in Brussels. Go Naomi! The Alliance is non-sectarian and represents both nationalist and unionist ambitions, it’s also modern and young. A good omen for Northern Ireland. It also means unionism doesn’t hold the majority any more (nor does nationalism).

Not only are the Red C exit polls a bit iffy, but RTE are pumping out any auld poo. This morning they said

“While none of the country’s 13 MEPs have been so far elected, the Green Party’s Ciaran Cuffe is on course to be the first to cross the line.”

Mairead McGuinness has become the first and I wouldn’t be surprised if Frances became the second.

      These polls
The IPSO push poll a few weeks ago
      And Friday’s exit

Have provided all the Media outlets hundreds of inches, weeks of programming, threads and threads of content and an entire social network of activity

      Not the issues
Or the feedback from the canvas
      But those effin’ polls

      It’s a feckin racket
Lobbyists, PRs, Press Advisors, Broadcasters and the Government Spin Units
      They’re all in on it

    Ireland South first preferences published.

Gwan the Mick! Seems Miriam’s decapitation attempt on you last week didn’t work. #3 in Ireland South first preferences, on track for #3 seat. Clare and Mick look like they’re on their way to Brussels, great for EU, but a huge hole in the Dail.

Worryingly, Peter O’Loughlin for Pegida affiliated Identity Ireland got 3,582 votes.

      1. Vanessa the Holy Face of Frilly Keane

        You think that’s worrying Eoin!!!

Professor Dolores IreExit got 10800 plus no. 1s
        FFS
I blame the lack of Broadband
        Has ta’ be

Billie will get transfers from all over the shop so ye can expect him to take the second seat with room to spare

        Although it’ll probably be Wednesday
        the rate their going

BTW yer man Malcolm did well dint he?

People ask where no-show Crowley’s 180,000 votes went. Kelleher and Malcolm would be the obvious answer.

Wallace #3 though, off to Europe and not even on the subs bench until the Brits sort themselves out.

        1. Vanessa the Holy Face of Frilly Keane

I wouldn’t be calling seats after Billie takes the second yet

There’s over 100,000 transfers plus Kelly’s surplus to be decided first

Remember I said those Southern transfers are going ta’ need a hape of oul’ tally heads to pluck apart and put sense ta?

          Well I wasn’t messing
