Breaking: Full recount of 755k ballots in #irelandsouth to begin at 9am next Tuesday morning – the count staff will work Mon – Fri 9-5pm. The estimate is this could take 28 working days but they’re not ruling out it taking longer. #ep2019

Whatever works for you.
Take the whole Summer.
It’s only DEMOCRACY after all.

Apparently the recheck of 200,000 votes only resulted in Ni Riada picking up one vote.
So now they’re going for a full recount, that will take a month, and at an estimated cost of €1m to the state. Just because Sinn Fein don’t like losing.
Its a ridiculous waste of time and money.
Irish MEPs EACH claimed €600,000 in expenses during their last 5 year terms in Brussels.
This is on top of their €105,000 salary, a €24,943 monthly allowance to pay staff, and a severance package of up to €210,000.
High stakes for Ms. Ni Ríada. She won’t see that kind of cash again
An eye-watering 2.8 million over the five years.
Odds of 31,580 rounded down for the odd treat.
Works out at well over half a million a year all in.
Tis no wonder…
She will see the likes of that cash if her party mates went back to bank robbing and laundering diesel.
controversial
The counting hall is being sealed until next Tuesday.
Wanted: professional arsonist for small premises job. Willing to pay up to €2.9m for 100% destruction.
Pity Keith Flint has just passed…..
€1 million?!! Seriously? How?
Lunches probably will consist of Lobsters on bed of caviar, all this sprinkled with a fine Moet.
ah sure flick a coin or pull a name from a hat, it won’t make any difference which one actually gets in!
It looks like SF/IRA are in total denial about their decline.
Or maybe it just wasn’t enough to refuse to take their seats in Westminster, refuse to partake in the Stormont assembly, refuse to go into government in Ireland, now they want to refuse someone else taking their seat in the European parliament.
People see them for what they are – Belligerent gangsters
Hahahahahahahah, thanks for that mlal you’re always good for a laugh.
Ah would ya give over
As if Billie wasn’t already geared up for a challenge if Gracie Green stayed over him after Byrne’s transfers
People don’t want to vote for a party that won’t take its seats when elected.
And yet hundreds of thousands do, weird isn’t it.
talk about being behind… 28days? 9am – 5pm? Or else, is that it? FFS.
Movie idea: Interstellar 2: in a last resort for the valiant defence of democracy, a group of fearless Corkonians pass through a black hole at Ballydehob and ensconce themselves in the Ireland South count centre where every minute equates to an hour along the space-time continuum in the Ireland on the other side of the black hole where we’re avidly following the broadcast of every twist and turn of the count. After a month, the fearless counters emerge back through the black hole with a final tally – and here’s the twist – only to find that equates to five years and is just in time for the 2024 European elections.
Ahhh but Eoin

According to the mass media Sinn Fein ‘demanded’ a recount. Meanwhile Fianna Fáil were ‘granted’ a recount.

H’on the sado-masochists!
Whatever about the electronic voting machine fiasco and the good reasons for not going there again, why hasn’t someone developed software to scan, decipher and categorise ballot papers? The technology is definitely there.
Transfers could be done quite simply with a couple of lines of code. It would improve the accuracy and speed of counts and decrease the cost.
In a country where Healey-Rae, Frances Fitzgerald, and Lowry can be returned by the electorate, where O’Broadband continues to baste in the taxpayers largesse, a housing minister who can’t get houses built, a disaster of a health service presided over by a leader who is himself a medical doctor, defence forces subsisting on social welfare payments, a health minister building the most expensive hospital on the planet, what could possibly go wrong?
Martin Cullen is rooting through the attic as we speak
Those kind of voting machines are already in use here in Brookline, Massachusetts. You check the boxes you want on the ballot paper then run it through the scanner and your votes are registered.
If the Cork votes were counted in a couple days, how can take 28 days and cost a
million, who is codding who, there is also another issue, the employment of Electoral
Station Presiding Officers and Poll Clerks, these positions should be advertised
and filled by Public Competition and those on the live register recruited first
Are those who are in receipt of pensions or retired public servant’s being employed
The running of elections is costing an arm and a leg, some County Councils lay
great emphasis on volunteering, how come its not pursued in this instance
Do you really think someone on the Live register will really be better qualified to preside over elections than someone with 30-40 years of working in the Irish administration and who knows it backwards?
Sorry for Liadh Ni Riada, she was an active MEP on behalf of Ireland and Ireland South.
Be interesting to see how the rest pans out. Will FG be leapfrogged and get the reserve/Brexit seat?
