This afternoon.
Merrion Strand/Sandymount Strand, Dublin 4
Problems with beaches along the Dublin coastline are persisting. Three of the five waters classified as being poor are in this region: Merrion strand, Sandymount strand and Portrane beach. In the case of Merrion strand, it risks being declassified as a bathing location next year, the EPA warns.
Urban wastewater is “the most common pressure impacting bathing water”, underlining the need for improvement in sewage treatment systems, it added.
Other bathing waters classified as poor were: Lilliput (Lough Ennell), Co Westmeath, and Clifden, Co Galway.

“Urban wastewater”? Is that the new euphemism for what was recently called “discharge”, “partially treated sewage”, “sludge”, “effluent”, “waste water sludge” , “activated sludge”?
It’s pee and poo and this is 2019.
“discharge”
i can’t suppress how much this word upsets me
Google “My Sweet V” if you dare. I literally just read about it on Twitter. Useful for smelly discharges.

do tend to be fairly hyperspermic, but we can talk about that
I wish I hadn’t looked that up.
Images of a plasterer’s radio came to mind.
“Secretion Sweetener”…no more need be said.
Well that veered off piste quite quickly.
Excellent work for a Friday

Cleanup on aisle three!!
hardly a surprise – the massive leak of raw sewage into dublin bay a few months ago was due to a ruptured pipe in a plant that was operating “at three times its capacity”

I just don’t understand why Irish Water were not hammering this message home instead of rolling out a metering system which couldn’t even pay for itself let atone anything else.
And here is the rub- the EU will rightly impose penalties for non compliance against Ireland, not because of water wastage on private property but because Ireland cannot get it’s act together on sewage discharges.
This is the polluter pays principle, the REAL polluter pays principle.
We should pump our waste into massive methane harvesting tanks.
