Nearly all of the buildings shown in that old photograph are gone, except for the pub on the corner (at left) which was recently renovated by Press-Up as the Lucky Duck.

Frank has a point but he’s awful contrary
I too lament the crazy demolitions that occurred in the 1960s – 1980s to make way for car parks. But what’s gone is gone. I mean, as well as those buildings, nearly all of those cars are gone! We cannot preserve everything.
Utilise planning legislation and good architects and conservation ethics to ensure we don’t pull down historic building stock again – this was all the Victorian era stuff – such a shame.
What, no obligatory ‘Name Those Jammers’? I am almost disappointed.
But also thankful, as I can only name the Morris Minor, and the busses appear to be Routemasters, And what seem to be a couple of Ford Anglias, I could not name anything…
All the wattle and daub buildings are gone too. Seriously though, that’s 70 odd years, of course things change.
Yeah Frank you are dead right, cities should never changes except for gay bars. Walk up and down the street, and see how little has changed.
