RIP.
RIP indeed. Highly entertaining company, even though you could never get a word in yourself you didn’t mind. Outrageously self-important but it was impossible to begrudge him for it.
He was a learned character. Graduated in Law but found literature and literary biography more interesting than legal loopholes. I enjoyed Celtic Dawn and Oliver St. John Gogarty most. R.I.P.
He was the author of a very good biography of Brendan Behan.
He went to the same school as Tommy Tiernan for a while, Garbally College, Ballinasloe, where is was unpopular with the boys but a favourite of the clerics – which might explain why he later airbrushed it out of his life story.
