The Irish Field is 150 years old on Wednesday [February 19]. We’re all very proud to be the current custodians of the title. We have a full-time staff of 12 and every Saturday we publish a new edition of around 120 pages. Above is a copy of our very first front page from 1870….

In fairness.

  1. Slightly Bemused

Hah! I had my credit card details scammed once, and one of the things done was a subscription to The Irish Field, as well as placing bets on a betting website. Allowed the Gardai to trace the guy very easily. Turned out to be a shop clerk at a place where I used my work card for business the day before. He had a skimmer on the little unit inside the shop, and it was very well done. But he moved too quickly, and the bank immediately noticed a strange pattern, and so alerted me.

Although it was not their fault, and indeed they were very helpful in resolving it, every time I see their title I chuckle, and think I should check my account transactions.
