Last night.
US President Donald Trump claimed he’d seen evidence linking the coronavirus to a lab in the Chinese city of Wuhan — but offered no details.
“Yes, I have,” Trump told White House reporters when asked whether he’s seen proof that would suggest the virus originated in the lab.
When pressed, on what gave him that confidence, he said: “I can’t tell you that. I am not allowed to tell you that.”
Earlier on Thursday, the US intelligence community said it agreed with the scientific consensus that the novel coronavirus was not “manmade or genetically modified.”
But it confirmed that it was looking into “whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.”

Given Fauci’s proven links to that lab- they are hardly going to say there was a ‘gain of function’ objective to the research now are they?
That would be tantamount to saying that the US is at least partly responsible for the outbreak.
It is made up nonsense.
1) He tells them he wants to investigate Labs in Wuhan
2) They humour him
3) He makes a big noise about how it is all China’s fault and the US are investigating
4) When things have blown over it is discretely announced that the virus didn’t come from a lab.
5) Trump’s supporters have already convinced themselves its China’s fault and his messaging has already moved on to some other nonsense.
I’d say he must be reading too many comic books but he doesn’t read so it can’t be that.
He’s electioneering here. Nothing more. Blame chinaaaa, paint them as the enemy and exclaim that only he and not ‘Sleepy Joe’ can deal with them.
A dangerous tactic.
Its taken a while for this to come out. Whitehouse was much quicker when they had proof of the WMD’s in Iraq.

At the daily White House press briefing, a reporter asked: “Mr. President, I wanted to ask Dr. Fauci: Could you address these suggestions or concerns that this virus was somehow manmade, possibly came out of a laboratory in China?”
“There was a study recently that we can make available to you, where a group of highly qualified evolutionary virologists looked at the sequences there and the sequences in bats as they evolve. And the mutations that it took to get to the point where it is now is totally consistent with a jump of a species from an animal to a human,” Fauci replied.
He underscored in his remarks that studies of the virus’ genome have strongly indicated that it was transmitted from an animal to a human rather than created or enhanced in a laboratory setting, as a review in a scientific journal found.
Trump never said it was man made? He is being very careful what he says- for a change.
The only ‘gain of function’ association is via Fauci.
“Have you seen anything at this point that gives you a high degree of confidence that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the origin of this virus?”

Now nothing happens naturally in a lab so if the lab is the origin then it would be manmade.
Not true- a sizeable number if not the majority of their samples would be naturally occurring- meaning not genetically modified.
He says he has seen evidence the virus came from the lab- that is all.
Naturally occurring, i.e. originating in nature, not in the lab.
No they won’t. Trump has trashed US alliances all over the world, except with the nastier regimes. Nobody’s going to go along with him the way they did with WMD. Not even the Conservatives in the UK could be willing to go along with a shooting conflict with China. I hope. Nor do the US intelligence services, so far, seem willing to effecively falsify intelligence to ‘prove’ the virus is a Chinese bioweapon or whatever. This is an election strategy, pure and simple, and the lack of actual evidence will remain Deep State treachery in the minds of his supporters. Lots of money will be spent flooding the field with misinformation and dodgy science, just like oil companies have been doing about climate change for decades. ‘Reasonable centrists’ or whatever will cherry pick the less deranged, complaining about being dismissed as conspiracy theorists just for questioning the narrative. ‘Trump has a point’ and ‘you’re just dismissing it because you don’t like Trump’ will become a regular refrain.

Countries won’t fall in line with Trump just like they haven’t fallen in line with just about anything he has done. China is a very influential country that ever other country in the world needs to do business with. It is very different from Iraq.

It’s old rhetoric from the “Yellow Fever” or “Red Scare” simplistic variety and the time-honoured, often-used, old-school playbook of keep them thinking about a fake, non-existant fear of something or preferably someone else(xenophobia/racism) and then offer them your ability to sway those fake-fears(leadership) in return for your ability to trust, feel safe, be happy(Your Vote) and get back to being a good diligent and efficient consumer.
Propaganda at it’s basic and in it’s most oldest form and it works. – It works mainly because of intentionally failing and falling education standards and also because of the editing and rewriting of history by the most powerful who stand to lose the most around the world if people were all on the same page.
Sport helps too, it keeps the population busy with the least important ideas. It’s why, in the media anyway, there is such a fuss to get football back online. It’s the same as the rush to get ‘murican football up and running again after the planes crashed into the symbol of financial strength and the people, the tragic collateral damage of war, died in New York in 2001.
Literally the powers that be, from top to bottom/local level, above and beyond governments are afraid that the population will get bored with sport, give up thinking about it, start talking with each other about other things and then eventually figure out that they can mobilise and direct their already induced, encouraged, tribalised anger, violent tendancies and collective energy towards them and wll ultimately take back control. If you spend more time watching sport and more money supporting various teams than engaging with your local community and politics, who stands to benefit the most?…
