        Morning Giggidy,

        I stand open to correction, but I seem to remember distinctly watching live when Pat apparently put his foot in his mouth. Wasn’t it Vinny B?

        He is often quoted as referring to lying ‘sure isn’t that what you do’

        I have a clear memory of him saying that in response to being accused of simplifying issues during the run up to election time, and not to lying as it is so often ascribed…

        Can anyone else throw their tuppence in here, or has anyone a link to that infamous interview?

        Happy Friday,

        Jasper

            Thanks Bodger.

            I’m rather conflicted on this one.

            On one hand I can’t stand Pat, but I can’t help feeling his response was to ‘keeping it really simple’

            Either way thankfully he is consigned to the dustbin of Irish politics

    Is the Daily Express front page supposed to symbolize Boris and all his illegitimate children?

    For what it’s worth, another study recently published on the effectiveness of different social distancing measures in 30 European countries. This time, by researchers at the University of East Anglia in collaboration with researchers at the University of Newcastle, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa.

    “We found that banning mass gatherings, closing some non-essential businesses, and closing educational facilities are most strongly associated with reduced incidence after a certain lag period.

    “But widespread closure of all non-essential businesses and stay-at-home policies do not appear to have had a significant effect on the number of Covid-19 cases across Europe.”

      You can include the “Irish” Daily Mail in the UK tabloids category! This week their front pages pictures were Joanna Lumley, Frue Leith, Adele and half their front page is another of their obsessions i.e. British Royal Family. They no longer use the guaranteed Irish logo that they used in the past. A complete joke if they call themselves an Irish paper. The April circulation figures are out on the ABC website Thursday week. We’ll see what the Irish paper buying public make of their tactics!

    In March the Department of Justice moved nearly 100 people in direct provision from Dublin to Cahersiveen, 350km away, ostensibly because of the high risk of coronavirus infection. Housed in substandard accommodation in the centre of the town, nearly a quarter of residents have now tested positive for coronavirus. As is always the case, we pay handsomely for this type of ineptitude.

    Surely everyone – residents, locals and taxpayers – deserve better than this?

        Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan said “intensive work” was underway to protect the health and welfare of asylum seekers and refugees in direct provision and that his department would continue to do “everything possible to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all applicants”.

        As reported in the Irish Times 30th March 2020

      This is what happens when you have a dishonest policy.

      Genuine asylum seekers should be welcomed.

      Those claiming asylum on spurious ground should be deported.

      Direct provision is a nonsense born of political cowardice and a legal system of endless appeals which (no surprise) serves only to enrich the legal profession at taxpayers expense.

        There’s no shortage of public servants and gombeen businessmen sucking on that particular tit either.

    RTE Part 1
    4 reporters on the leaving cert story including the newsreader
    4 reporters on the irish covid 19 story including newsreader. ( in part 1)
    ‘let’s take us through the……..’ (Ingrid’s favorite phrase, with her ‘I am important’ look)
    ===========
    Part 2
    VE day (CV day) with a the usual excuse to introduce a Trump story., a wedding story, 4 reporters.

    Sean O Rourke story. Sneaky Varadkar soundbites, but no Maria Bailey. 2 reporters.
    ==========

    Add in your cameraman, sound, transport etc.

    And all reports could have been read by the newsreader had the reporters sent in an email.
