A parallel universe playing out in front of our eyes.

The absolute state of the Daily Express as usual. “We support the NHS” and “people crowding together on the beach is just what Britain needed” within a few mm of each other.
That’s a very good article from a journalist who isn’t afraid to tell it as it is when reporting. I wonder which radio program and contributed he was referring to as regards Ireland.

in the early 2000’s? probably the Last Word, it still had Eamon Dunphy presenting back then and I remember Robert Fisk being a regular.
Otis Blue
He lived – might still do – in Dalkey for many years. Did his PhD in Trinity in the 80’s.

Robert Fisk is one of the few voices I place any credence in when it comes to reporting on the Middle East.
GiggidyGoo
Agreed on that.

Fisk is the type of journalist most dream to be. I have zero time for anti-America or anti-Israel or spurious anti-semetic claims against him or others as a tool to shut down conversation.
That said I do think he has a strong bias and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him criticise the violence inflicted or Israel or the West by some sectors of the Islamic world, even if he is sympathetic as to what drove them to commit such acts.
For comparative purposes, you would expect any journalist who was sympathetic to the nationalist cause in n Ireland to at least be critical of some of the greater atrocities.
I could be wrong as I can’t claim to have read volumes of his work, but that’s the impression I got from what I did read.
And Malkovich is an ass, he can compare himself with Charlie Hebdo killers with that kind of comment.
Lilly
Malkovich made that comment 18 years ago. Has he said something else lately?

ha, didn’t realise it was 20 years ago…. very shortly after 9/11 which was clearly an emotional time which i am happy to call out as a significant mitigant

Anyway back to Brexit.
There’s an increasing air of desperation about poor old Barnier and his lickspittles in the Irish media.
He’s taken to whining about the tone of the statements made by his UK opposite number David Frost – this from a time-serving bureaucrat who has spent years haughtily lecturing Blighty.
And the Irish Times today reckons it’s ludicrous that Boris won’t ask for a delay in negotiations.
Meanwhile RTE’s official EU pile cushion Tony Connelly has been flapping his gums with even more alarm than usual.
Slowly but surely they’re all waking up to the reality of Boris’s huge parliamentary majority and his absolute willingness to walk away with a No Deal Brexit.
The game is up chumps.
There’s a new show in town.
Nigel
The UK’s complete inability to negotiate a deal is literally the same old show.
…the Brits firmly believe that the EU need them more than they need the EU and if the EU don’t give them what they want they will leave anyway…the no deal option was not on the ballot paper but it is closest to what the Brits want as they have demonstrated democratically…twice…
As I said, Sasamach is done. They voted to leave and they left. There was nothing on the ballot paper about the relationship with the EU after they leave.
…if you insist in nit-picking…they certainly voted to leave but didn’t…it wasn’t until Bungling Boris got his stonking majority that the democratic wish of the majority was enacted…the terms of the divorce have yet to be decided…

Boris the Bounder bounces clear yet again.
Blighty loves his caddish behaviour. They warm to him rather than some dull North London lawyer.
And still a whopping 15 points in the lead even after the departure of Magic Grandpa and 35,000 C-19 deaths.
Broken by a Big Bad Bug, Boris Banjaxed Britain by Bungling Brexit.
ReproBertie
How am I nit picking if you agree they have left? The UK is no longer part of the EU which is what they voted for. Now they will celebrate by making it more expensive for them to feed their families. Bravo!
In the English Channel this morning there are already nine boats full of illegal immigrants heading for the UK.
And Nigel Farage can sniff a way back into the spotlight.

“….Regional telecommunications giant Digicel is denying claims that it has filed for bankruptcy before the Bermuda courts.
It has, however, filed a proposed scheme of arrangement in the Bermudian courts in connection with Digicel Group One Limited — an intermediate financing holding company, according to Antonia Graham, head of communications for the Digicel Group.
“At the start of April, we announced refinancing activities which, when complete, will strengthen our balance sheet by reducing our debt, extending our maturities and reducing our ongoing financing costs. Following overwhelming support from our debt holders for these proposals, we are now progressing with the required administrative processes,” she stated in a release.”
” Digicel, a Caribbean-based telecommunications and entertainment provider that services more than 20 islands in the region as well as Central America and Oceania, has filed for bankruptcy court reorganization.”

Sasamach is done. The Brits are out. These are the negotiations about future trade and relationships. Try and keep up.

Ah jeez Charger, would you ever get over yourself?
Oh, the irony.
In fairness, Barnier does a decent line in withering dismissal. He’s Andrea Pirlo to the Blighty’s Carlton Palmer.
