Fine Gael Senator Jerry Buttimer tweeted the above letter he has resigned as Leas Cathaoirleach of the Seanad.

Mr Buttimer was one of 81 people, including former Agriculture Minister Dara Calleary, EU Commissioner Phil Hogan, Supreme Court judge and former Attorney General Seamus Woulfe, former RTÉ presenter Seán O’Rourke and Senator John Cummins, who attended the Oireachtas Golf Society’s 50th anniversary dinner at the Station House Hotel, Clifden, Co Galway on Wednesday night.

Mr Buttimer’s resignation follows that of Mr Calleary.

    What t f were they thinking..? Seriously, the personal and financial sacrifices made by the entire population over the past 5 months .. and they head off to a golf event..???

    I’d say what’s going on in Buttimers head there is to get out now, get the resignation in early ‘cos could be much worse to come here….

      There WILL be CCTV- it is a requirement in order for a hotel to get public liability insurance I expect.

      No. He was lucky to have the title to resign from. What have the other Senators to cough up?

      RTE pensioner Sean O’Rourke is lucky he got out when he did (although I guess he wouldn’t have been there if he was still working).

    OK, Two resignations, the others should be fired. The Hotel should be fined or closed or have its license revoked. Sean O’Rourke – very disappointed that you stayed when you saw the numbers. Thought we were all supposed to be in this together, fighting the virus and not playing the arrogance game.
