Believed to be one of the first ever colour photographs taken in Ireland. Mother of seven making knitted shawls, Galway, May, 1913.
This photo is one of 73 autochromes taken by French academics Marguerite Mespoulet & Madeleine Mignon during a trip to Ireland in May & June 1913. pic.twitter.com/Sd1YYyyFrm

The red looks gorgeous against the grey sky. Impressive to have kept that hair colour after 7 children.
She’s probably not yet 30 so no need for l’oreal.
Oil of Olay, though.
*foreveryoung*
looks like hard times. though id say the table and chair are better built than the junk disposable furniture bought now.
I have a drinks trolley
Well that’s what I call it anyway
That I’m told was in my Great Grand Mothers house
and it was one of my Granda’s apprentice pieces (Joiner)
So from around that same period
Still perfect
Could do with a sanding and rewaxing/ polishing alright
even the castors are still perfect
I could sit on it and be wheeled around on it
Not that I would
Anyway tis down the ‘van
so tisn’t like I could do a demo for ye
You’ll just have to take my word for it
We used have a trolley that I think my uncle made. Two surfaces, one up, one down. When he came over he would wheel us around the house in it, much to my mother’s disapproval. Not so much the wheeling, but pretty much the speed at which he did it to much giggling and delight from those onboard
Of course, in hindsight, it’s possible her disapproval may have been due to his nakedness.
An extra from Wild Mountain Thyme.
now that’s good posture.
Winning title there, chapeau!
and as Ryan should say on the Late Late, there’s a red shawl for every member of the audience. Happy Christmas.
Interesting photo. It seems to be monochrome except for the unnamed woman.
