    That was interesting, if a little disturbing.
    It reminds me of the bystander effect, where people often will not attempt to assist if there are others around, hoping to avoid the responsibility, however subconsciously. This is one reason any first aider is told pick someone (point at them and say ‘You!’) and direct them to call the ambulance, and report back. It jolts the person back out of that stupor and into community/society assistance mode. Often will jolt the rest of the onlookers too.
