For your consideration…
…The Bayno (1954).
In 1909, the Gunness family’s Iveagh Trust founded a play centre for the capital’s poor, in Francis Street, Dublin later moving to Bull Alley.
Peter Fitzpatrick, of the Iveagh Trust, writes:
To celebrate the Iveagh Trust’s 130th year, we’ve restored a special, rarely seen 1954 film-reel from our archive.
Recorded on a June day in 1954 by Pat Johnston of the FCA – this fantastic footage has been transformed and provides a window into life at what was Ireland’s finest children’s play centre, affectionately known as ‘The Bayno‘.
The Trust would love to connect with as many as we can from the video and bring them back together for a special gathering and outdoor showing of the film on the same spot later next year.
We hope that you can help us to reach them so that they might reconnect with each other, share their memories and relive their time at the Bayno.
Anyone that recognises themselves or anyone else can get in touch with us at: thebayno@theiveaghtrust.ie or phone 454 2312.
Does anyone know from where the name derives?
+1 was wondering that?
I think it’s from the Guinness family’s title that was held at the time. Through the link it has this:
1927
Edward Cecil Guinness, 1st Earl of Iveagh and founder of The Iveagh Trust dies on October 7th at the age of 79.
Oh My god! That roundabout is overloaded! The health and safety! I’ve been trrrrrrigered!
That was lovely, thanks for sharing :-)
