This morning.

Water Channel Square, Portobello, Dublin 8.

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Hazel Chu helps celebrate the launch of the NOW TV‘s sponsorship of dublinbikes.

NOW TV dublinbikes will be on the streets of Dublin from January 19, 2021. Docking station screens, service vehicles, staff uniforms and associated inventory will all also be rebranded under the three year contract.

In fairness.

The Lord Mayor should not be working as an influencer for a private company. Again, blurring the lines between state and private business.

Isn’t Dublin Bikes an initiative of DCC? The private sponsorship only covers a fraction of the actual running costs, the rest (bulk) is put up by DCC. So the project is much more city council than private enterprise. From that perspective you could argue that her appearance is in a PSA capacity for Dublin Bikes rather than as an endorsement of whatever Now TV is.

Anne Hidalgo stumps for Velib in Paris too. Public-private partnership?

Outdoor advertising firm JCDecaux operate the scheme on contract for Dublin City Council. The Council foot the operating costs not covered by subscriptions and commercial sponsorship; a subvention of around 25%-30% annually.

The National Transport Authority contribute to the capital costs for infrastructure.

Excellent, she can cycle past and continue to look down on Dublin’s homeless bedded around the Mansion house as her Greenwash party uses its position in government to keep the FFG status quo going.

Why bother with the homeless at Christmas when you can promote a private companies bicycles?
