Today is known as the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. From tomorrow, the days will get gradually brighter and longer as we head towards summer.

That is interesting! I did not realise it was only noticed so recently.
I remember going on a school trip when I was about 13 or 14. It was before they did the ‘upgrade’ works, and access was almost unlimited. We did have a guide, and a busload a crawling kids were allowed inside where the construction was explained. I remember clambering over a carved stone threshold to enter.
I doubt it was our fault alone, but such unrestrained access likely prompted the upgrade, and the current restrictions on actually entering.
Sadly it looks like the skies will be clouded tonight also. Today is when Jupiter and Saturn align in the sky, first time in 800 years. Considered a possibility to be the Star of Bethlehem.
