This morning.

A British judge has rejected the United States’ request to extradite WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to face espionage charges, saying it would be “oppressive” because of his mental health.

Via AP:

District Judge Vanessa Baraitser said Monday Assange was likely to commit suicide if sent to the U.S. The U.S. government said it would appeal the decision.

More as we get it.

Have the US gov Appealed? -I heard that if it went the other way he would have appealed.
Either way this will drag on

This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time. The treatment of Assange for exposing the crimes of the US has been absolutely abhorrent. The relative silence of the mainstream media as a true journalist is persecuted horribly for revealing the reality of US geopolitical actions and exposing the crimes of power really only highlights their role as PR men for power, as opposed to holding such power to account. Assange has paid dearly for daring to inform the public of the reality of global power in the world today. Hopefully he will get to spend some years raising his kids now.

I’m not sure it is great news. I read it as the judge avoiding any real decision based on legal argument, rather only based on health.

“I’m not sure it is great news. I read it as the judge avoiding any real decision based on legal argument, rather only based on health.” – yes especially given that there will be an appeal

I wonder if the US using the information last year that Assange released helped in any way. It was their system effectively saying ‘you were bad for doing X but thank you for doing it and we’re going to profit from it’.

Oh no he could have put AMERICAN lives in the middle east in danger. As we all know American lives are all important – what those Americans were doing in the middle east…
