    Charger’s Vax Facts™ #58 ( Von Der Leyen Eyes Edition )

The UK is ploughing through the vaccine snowstorms delivering 414,973 jabs yesterday with an overall total of 13,577,851.

Ireland’s total has increased overnight by 3491 to 240,487 or 4.7% of the population.

By comparison Israel has vaxxed 62.9% of its people, the Northern Mariana Island (21.4%) Palau ( 19.3%) and Bahrain (12.3%).

Which makes a mockery of EU President Ursula Von Der Leyen-through-her-teeth’s continued excuse for risible vaccine numbers that only by acting as one slow bureaucratic body could smaller EU countries receive adequate vaccines.

If countries like American Samoa ( 22.9% ) and the Cayman Islands ( 16.9% ) can easily source vaccines why couldn’t Ireland ?

And there was welcome confirmation from the WHO that the UK/AstraZeneca jab is highly effective against over-65s and the UK’s delayed second vaccine strategy is producing excellent immunity against the virus.

Poor old Napoleon Macron, who tried to downplay the huge success of the UK/AZ vaccine to cover up France’s terrible jab record, is also being made to look a total imbecile.

    Still …

Obviously the deaths of people doesn’t concern you Kate, cherry picking results of polls is far more important. Another 1,000 deaths in the UK from the virus in the last 24 hours, almost 115,000 dead there now. And the 39 Vietnamese you disgustingly joked about in a post here. How any human being could stoop so low is beyond me, but it doesn’t seem to cost you a thought. You keep on spouting your nonsense. If any normal person wrote what you did, they would have difficulty getting to sleep. Not you Admiral. Well done.

    2. Charger Salmons

Then there’s the lack of accountability.
The EU president hasn’t held a single news conference at which she allowed herself to be questioned by the media since the vaccine debacle has unfolded.
MEP’s got the chance to question her yesterday in the European Parliament including four Irish ones.
However she was absent for most of them and even on her return swerved all replies.
Perhaps she’s taken the lead from Ireland where government briefings are held behind closed doors and we not allowed to see live questioning of the Health Minister and his experts.

      https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/von-der-leyen-turns-abundance-of-irish-concerns-into-democratic-deficit-1.4481500

Not that the Irish media are anything other than toothless lapdogs.
Imagine, if you will, what their response would be this morning if Europe had created a vaccine, the UK said it didn’t work and refused to licence it for over-65s and millions were unvaccinated. It then transpires it worked after all with the WHO clearly backing the EU’s decisions from the start.
Imagine the level of vitriol Fintan 0’Toole would be spewing out now ?

You still being taken for fools.

      1. Joe F

You gave me a great laugh yesterday Kate. I Googled Charger Salmons, that brought me to peoplesrepublicofcork. Well that was quite interesting now. So a leopard doesn’t change its spots. You have quite a bit of form in this old replying to yourself Admiral. People on there were asking why you (Admiral Nelson) were replying to your own posts (Charger Salmons). Then you got kicked off that site, reading your posts it’s not hard to see why. Now you’re at the same here, Kate replying to Charger Salmons and vice versa. You’re the ultimate troll/keyboard warrior, hiding behind multiple aliases, afraid to put your real name to anything. That says everything about you.
        Marvelous.

        1. Johnny

Joe-can you just leave Kate outta it,I rarely if ever get any response to my spelling challenged nonsense.
Oh and try get some new material, this really is old and boring.

Great read over the weekend and audio on a Bloomberg protégé,who’s truly got a very bright political future ahead. She kept the schools open in Rhode Island, most colleges are back with in person class,it’s springtime around here:)

“Rhode Island Kept Its Schools Open. This Is What Happened.”

    3. Micko

In fairness to the UK, they are playing a blinder now with the Vaccine.

(As far as I can see and I can only speak anecdotally.)

There’s only two people I know who have been vaccinated so far.

One is a lad I know who works in hospital admin in Ireland and the other is my retired Aunt who lives in Birmingham in the UK.

I rang her last weekend to catch up and she nonchalantly told me 20 mins into our call that “Sure I got the first jab two weeks ago. Will be getting the second one soon.”

      She’s 65

      1. Charger Salmons

You’re obviously not an avid reader of Charger’s Vax Facts™ then Micko !
But good to hear someone with an actual view.
Vaccines are the biggest single news story consistently dominating every day’s newspapers featured on here yet barely a peep about them from our ‘experts ‘.
The silence is deafening now the clamour to have me kicked off Broadsheet merely for discussing them has died down.
Ireland needs to get off its backside and start buying up extra vaccines to speed up the process.
As I mentioned upthread if a tiny group of islands in the Pacific is vaccinating its population at four times the speed of Ireland something is embarrasingly wrong.

        1. Joe F

Good afternoon Kate. No comment from you on Matt Hancock and his booking of holidays for the Summer then old boy? No, you’ll just ignore that, pretend it hasn’t happened. Just like the 1,000 deaths in the UK from the virus yesterday, bringing the total deaths there to almost 115,000. You don’t want to talk about that, might make Bozo look bad.
Speaking of Bozo, what are his latest approval ratings Admiral Nelson? When I checked yesterday, the latest figures showed him at -16%. Funny how you don’t bring those figures up either.
          Marvelous.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children,” Carano wrote Instagram. “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

    :(

    1. Junkface

That is ridiculous! Even if I don’t agree with the point she was trying to make, she’s an adult and that was a debatable statement. People used to be able to do this without losing their jobs. Modern life is getting closer and closer to a nightmare. Adults treated like children, freedom of speech crushed. Cancel culture is not only very real, it is beginning to also shutdown valid video documenters on youtube, even though their footage is used repeatedly on mainstream news! Soon all important anti-establishment voices will be silenced.

      1. goldenbrown

yup – and backbone of it all being Chitter, Instashite, Friendface

what always escapes me is the compulsion of the likes of herself to express her views in this way, tis never a good old fashioned drunken rant moment anymore is it? sometimes I wonder if it gets to a point with celebridee and wannabee personality types that participation on social media platforms eventually fries their prefrontal cortex

      2. Charger Salmons

You’ve only got to look on here to see attempted cancel culture in action.
At a time in our history when there is more information freely available than ever before rather than embrace it people try even harder to close down the flow of it.

      3. Nigel

What did she say? Don’t make me go looking I’ve had insomnia for three nights straight and the world is basically one big long curving tunnel to infinity.

    2. Micko

Pity. I liked her in that show.

Also, I thought she was a good role model for girls as she wasn’t dangerously bloody stick thin and looks great and healthy.

          1. Junkface

Who are we talking about here? Wasn’t this about Gina Carano losing her role because of a misguided point she was making online? They are cancelling plenty of women and gay men of all colours who are refusing to be pigeon holed and want to have grown up debates and dialogue. Without dialogue in civil society we cannot progress through complex issues where everything is not black and white, but grey areas.

Do you like where western society is heading? It’s a disaster for adults and children and brain development generally.

          2. Daisy Chainsaw

Whiny, right wing, snowflakes comparing the consequences of muh freeze peach with being beaten by their neighbours and living under the threat of being interred in a concentration camp and gassed deserve every bit of backlash and scorn they get.

          3. Junkface

Yes, picking a side and digging in, seeing all other opinions as right wing and ignoring all examples of healthy debate, free speech throughout history is the way to go! Who needs nuance and intellect anyway?

You would love North Korea or China.

          4. Nigel

‘cancelling’ – disagreeing with, no longer supporting.
‘Without dialogue in civil society we cannot progress’ – one side MUST be allowed to say whatever they like, the other cannot disgagree and disengage from the first without threatening progress. Guess which side is which.
‘where everything is not black and white, but grey areas.’ – not everything is grey areas, some are quite black and white.
‘Do you like where western society is heading?’ – yes, marginalised people are being required to shut up as calling out things like racism and inequality is a threat to progress and freedom and literaly causing some developmental problems in people’s brains

          5. Nigel

‘You would love North Korea or China.’ Yes, having an opinion and sticking to it despite being upraided for daring to disagree is a halllmark of those societies.

          6. Junkface

            Daisy
“Whiny, right wing, snowflakes comparing the consequences of muh freeze peach with being beaten by their neighbours”

I think she was making a point that people are taking sides to such an extreme that it’s similar to the way nazis dehumanized the jews in WW2 Germany. Making their neighbours treat neighbours like animals. Kind of like the way you just tried to demonize her or people you think are right wing in the USA. (Which proves her point)

How could you not have read it this way? Are you a native English speaker?

It’s a clumsy way of going about it. She might actually be left wing and have jewish ancestors. Who knows exactly?

          7. Junkface

Nigel, you are such an authoritarian. This will end up backfiring badly for everyone including the left. Who decides what at the top of the extreme left wing censorship pyramid? Heads of social media companies that no one voted for? Hysterical children on twitter?

Good God man! Ever heard of Ira Glasser or Noam Chomsky? Who needs a century of civil debate and social progress. Straight to 1984!

          8. Junkface

            Nigel
“Wait, who’s getting treated like an animal? Where?”

Read it again dear. I was talking about how jews were treated during the war. The main point of her whole point (the actor). Maybe you do need rest.

          9. Nigel

‘Nigel, you are such an authoritarian.’ Why, because the self evident logic and reason of your arguments remain stubbornly elusive and you repeatedly fail to persuade me that your piunt of view on this has any merit, is, in fact, intellectual sophistry and sheer reactionary hysteria? That makes me authoritarian?

‘I was talking about how jews were treated during the war.’ So nobody is being treated like animals, but in the past people were treated like animals therefore your, and her, point. Has it occured to you tgat the reason you spend so much time complaining about the intractability and unpersuadability of ‘the woke,’ whatever shibboleth that represents this week, is because your actual arguments and points are bad?

It’s astonishing that we have made so many comments on this, but nobody has so far directly referenced what she actually said that supposedly lead to her dismissal. So much for debate and dialogue of whatever complex issue and grey area she tried to navigate so disastrously. How will society progress? Think of the development of babiies’ brans!

          10. Nigel

‘Ever heard of Ira Glasser or Noam Chomsky? Who needs a century of civil debate and social progress. Straight to 1984!’

Every time we debate this subject you accuse me of wanting to stamp out debate, desipte the fact that I am here, debating you, civilly, usually. It’s almost as if the points of view represented by one side of the debate are so stupid, weird and/or dangerous that they are, in fact, indefensible, but you’re unwilling to concede this, so you retreat to defending them through abstract generalities and accusations of authoritarianism.

          11. Daisy Chainsaw

Junkface, people have the right to say what they want, they don’t have the right for it to be free from consequences.

          12. Nigel

I note that the solution to the central problem of losing a job because of things you say and do outside of work is a strong workplace union to ensure fair treatment and protection of worker’s rights.

          13. Junkface

            @Nigel

Name one intellectual who thinks our current social media hysteria and banning of everything including free speech , is a good idea? These topics are debated everywhere online, on the left mainly, but also the right.

You have failed to make any coherent arguments as to where this will finally lead and why you think more and more censorship is a good idea. Its never a good idea. Any intellectual on this subject will tell you that.

          14. Nigel

‘Name one intellectual who thinks our current social media hysteria and banning of everything including free speech , is a good idea?’

If nobody thinks it’s a good idea, who are you arguing with? What are you arguing about?

‘You have failed to make any coherent arguments as to where this will finally lead ‘

Because slippery slope arguments are regarded as fallacies for a reason. For someone celebrating grey areas only a few comments ago, the idea that big tech social media dominance in communications might pose complex problems that require complex solutions that defy simple predictions by non-experts seems to elude you. ‘More and more censroship is a bad idea,’ and ‘more and more lies, propaganda and platforms for hate is a bad idea’ are not mutually exclusive concepts just because they’re difficult to reconcile in the current regulatory environment.

      1. Charger Salmons

        Indeed.
I highlighted it on here a while back.
I’d been using them together on toast for years and I wonder what took them do long.
Seems like they’re making a real push to broaden the appeal – I see from the article they’re also pushing Marmite-infused butter.

        1. bisted

…did you read about this Charger…can’t see that abomination breaking the brexit blockade and making it onto the M&S shelves in the EU…

          1. Charger Salmons

Did I read about this ?
Yes, I included the link in my post.
Have you put your slow head on today by mistake ?

          2. bisted

…sorry Charger…slowhead indeed…please ignore first six words of that comment…still an abomination though and still can’t see it making it onto EU shelves…although I hear M&S have plenty of room on their shelves at the moment…on both sides of La Manche…

          3. Charger Salmons

            No apologies needed old sport.
Seems M&S Ireland are stocking them – have a look at the post below.Don’t know why it ended up where it did.
As for food shortages – it’s less than six weeks since the UK changed the way it has done business for half a century so of course there will be teething problems.
Come back to me in a year or so and we’ll see where we are then – but any economic expert who can accurately predict very far into the future is telling porkies.
They’ve all got it spectacularly wrong so far.

          4. Brother Barnabas

“Come back to me in a year or so and see where we are then”

weetabix and beans for the average little englander’s teatime

            that’s where

        2. Joe F

Any chance of you commenting on Matt Hancock and his booking for his Summer holidays Kate? No of course you won’t write anything about that old boy. He’s a Tory, like Bozo, and they do no wrong. Bit hypocritical of him, telling people not to do one thing and then doing it himself. I can see why you’re a fan of the Tories, you’re a fully paid up hypocrite Admiral.
          Marvelous.

      2. Charger Salmons

        You heard it here first.
        Marmite Dynamite.
Which is Marmite with chilli in it.
Not for the faint-hearted which rules out most of the silly billies on here.

  3. Commenter #1

Charger Salmons: The most impactful commenter on Broadsheet for a while.

Has single-handedly (?) managed to decimate the amount of conversation that happens on here now.

Whoever suggested that Bodger was trying to “The Producers” this place into the ground might have been on to something.

    lol

    1. V aka Frilly Keane

Charage isn’t the reason for the flat ambiance around here
      or the flatpack threads

and I reckon you know that most of us can see that Commie No 1
Actually I find your gaslighting more insulting than I find Charage’s nonstoppism boring

I’d even go so far as to say you’re more involved around here – maybe in a below stairs / off site role

then again, tisn’t any of my business what ye all get up ta
there’s nothing much for me to do around here anymore anyway
I’m well past my best before on Broadsheet

Well I never thought I’d see the day.

Accused of being in a below stairs / off site role at Broadsheet.

        I’ve made it!

        1. Commenter #1

although, if my terrible comments have given that impression, then you have given me a lot to think about. the idea that i sound like someone who works for Broadsheet!

          Chilling.

Might be an opportune time to step away and think about my life/choices, although I’ll probably be back. This place is full of people who’ve threatened to flounce off only to crop up again a few days later.

          1. V aka Frilly Keane

            Do what ya like lad

whatever tis that’s really going on with you and your tootle pants for Bodger & Broadsheet is between ye
Anyway there’s no shortage of ‘wans flying about here to make sure Bodger etc always feels special

but I know for sure Charage isn’t the problem with the comments Board below the line

I remember when I was still in school being promised how advances in tech would result in a shorter work week and better health care and in general tech would lift everyone out of poverty and better lives globally. Instead tech is being used against us all.

    1. ian-oh

I would disagree, we are allowing tech to be used against us.

Don’t do facebook or instagram or similar and be very cautious what you put online.

If you are really paranoid, root your mobile and disable some of the more insidious functions (can’t be bothered myself, I relish the idea of someone poring over my profile and going my God, this man is so boring he MUST be up to something.)

WE chose to give all our info to google and facebook and others in return for stuff we really did not need. If I wanted to see someones holiday snaps I’d ask. Not that I ever did though. Who cares?

Another Project Fear lie put out of its misery.
Home Office figures out today show that more than 5 MILLION EU citizens have applied to stay in the UK.
To put that into context it’s more than the combined population of seven EU states.
Poles, Romanians and Italians are top nationalities in the EU Settlement scheme.
As she has done for decades Britannia contiues to offer a sheltering emrace for citizens of all nations and cultures who wish to contirbute positively to the success of the country.
    Marvellous.

    1. Joe F

Oh that’s wonderful Kate. It’s funny that you never mention the number of deaths in the UK from the virus. So, I’ll give you the latest data, as you seem to have a problem sourcing them. The UK is currently the 5th highest out of 221 countries worldwide for deaths per million population. Nearly 115,000 dead and some people saying this figure may be as much as 40,000 understated. Ireland currently 44th highest. You want to comment on those “facts” Kate?

      1. Charger Salmons

Haven’t been able to edit on Android or Windows for a couple of days.
I like to sprinkle a little extra stardust on my purple prose after it has been posted.

        1. Joe F

You didn’t do much editing on peoplesrepublicofcork old sport. Some lovely postings of yours there for everyone to see. Someone called Admiral Nelson seemed to engage quite a bit with your vile posts on that site. I wonder who they would be Kate?
          Marvelous.
