The GB News team

This afternoon.

Via Daily Express:

On Sunday evening, Andrew Neil and Dan Wootton were the first two big names kicking off GB News as the new channel launched to rival the likes of BBC and Sky News.

However, comments made by Wooton during the first episode of Tonight Live with Dan Wootton has reportedly resulted in hundreds of complaints being made to regulating broadcaster, Ofcom….

Meanwhile…

MPs, free speech campaigners and business leaders today turned on ‘anti-democratic’ IKEA and other ‘hypocritical’ big businesses cancelling advertising on GB News after bowing to ‘bullying’ from ‘sinister’ left-wing pressure groups.

Nivea, Kopparberg, Grolsch, the Open University, Octopus Energy, Ovo Energy and insurer LV have also pulled their adverts from Andrew Neil’s new channel, prompting calls for a boycott of their services and many accusing the companies of caving in to ‘zealots’.

Furious Tory MPs call for a BOYCOTT of Ikea, Nivea, Kopparberg and Grolsch as firms pull adverts from GB News (Mail Online)

just what the uk needs – more right wing nutters. looks like it’s gone full poohole now.

    1. Junkface

Do you include the black females in this photo as right wing nutters? Have you ever heard them speak?
The UK does actually need different points of view than the woke BBC and to a lesser extent Sky news. This is why the Labour party are repeatedly getting destroyed in every election. The Left wing movement has completely forgotten about the working class, and they have no idea what they think because the media only reflects their left wing upper middle class point of view.

It’s a great way of ensuring years of Tory party rule. They must want it.

      1. Nigel

Or perhaps you’ve internalised succesful right wing framing around their favourite culture war targets ensuring that people like you always cede conceptual, intellectual and moral ground to their fake outrage.

        1. Clampers Outside

This waffle from the lad posting replies about reading comprehension.

          LOL :)

      2. scottser

who says black females can’t be right wing? i didn’t, why would you bring it up? try building your strawman somewhere else lad.

        1. Junkface

You are the one who implied the whole cast responsible for GB news were right wing nutters. The whole cast is in that photo. I’m not trying to build a strawmen or whatever, I was interested to see if you have ever listened to the black women in the photo? I have, they are deffo not right wing nutters.

So because some of those people have right wing or conservative views you are happy to apply a tag to all of them. It’s kind of like that guilt by association thinking. Its dumb.

        2. Clampers Outside

In fairness, he didn’t say black women couldn’t be right wing, but asked if you’d heard the women pictured speak, as your comment does label those in the picture as right wing nutters.

No strawman in that, truth be told.

wtf were these companies up to advertising there in the first place??

they didn’t know what they were getting mixed up in?

    yeah right, lol

    1. Jonboy

Companies buy advertising on TV in blocks from agencies, a lot of them would not have been aware that their ads were running on the new station.

  3. Junkface

Jesus Christ! God forbid that we could have a news channel with different opinions! What is the world coming to? Where’s my safety blanket?? Aaaarrrrggghhh!!

It’s odd the way people jump straight into group think without having seen any of the different shows on the channel, but this is where we are today. Approaching an intellectual blackhole. Diversity of opinion as well the ability to think for yourself is hugely important to society. It leads to better problem solving and debate. Corporate sponsors do not give a damn about anyone or anything except for their cash profits. If you are fooled by a little rainbow flag next to a brand name then you are a group think moron.

    1. Nigel

God forbid people criticise a news channel for its content! That’s only for the BBC! Or RTE! Criticise one, it’s an attack on freedom of speech, criticise the others it’s an attack FOR freedom of speech!

Nor am I sure that an entire news channel devoted to attacking ‘the woke’ is adding much in the way of diversity to public discourse, whatever else they might he doing.

      1. Junkface

They are encouraging difference of opinion and fighting against left wing authoritarianism, not just “attacking the woke” as you put it, but you are patient zero for this type of thing Nigel, so of course you would think this. Freedom of speech is the bedrock of enlightenment thinking and a civilized society. Maybe you should check out Noam Chomsky’s famous speech from the 70’s?

        1. Nigel

How come their attacks on people like, for the sake of argument, me, are the exercisei of freedom of speech but my ‘attacks’ on them aren’t? It’s almost like they expect to do what they like with impunity and I’m expected to shut up. And that, apparently, is freedom of speech, the bedrock of Noam Chomsky.

“almost like”…. The two words that always precede waffle.

And boy did you deliver the waffle :)

          2. Nigel

‘Waffle.’ One of the words you use to show you don’t understand or don’t have an actual response to what you’ve read.

          3. Clampers Outside

Who could be bothered responding to waffle other than to call it what it is, in fairness :)

      +1 Junkface

I just skimmed their Twitter feed.

One post berating anti lockdown protesters for verbally assaulting a reporter and another had two presenters debating mandatory vaccines. Each presenting different sides of the argument.

      Seems pretty measured to me.

Let’s wait and see before we cast judgment.

      1. Nigel

Seems less like reporting and more like enshrining a simple binary of conflicting opinions to drive clicks and engagement via conflict and controversy. That’s entertainment, not journalism, and it sure as hell isn’t diversity, it’s homogeneity and dumbing down.

        1. Ghost of Yep

Nigel, I’ve seen you post links to salon, buzz feed and recently a tweet of a guardian article quoting one epidemiologist and “others” as some kind of “gotcha” relating to the Covid figures in India.

You really can’t see how you come across can you.

          1. Clampers Outside

Remember when you called others “Far-right” for posting links to Sky News…. And a few weeks later posted links to Sky News yourself.

            Those were fun times :)

          2. Nigel

I remember you making a number of accusations like this and always turning out to be wrong. Fun times indeed.

          3. Clampers Outside

Nah, I re-posted the proof many times when you denied it.

Your denial is funny though :)

          4. Ghost of Yep

I think you get my point Nigel. I won’t be joining in for the inevitable pile on. Daisy will be along now to kick a few shins.

    3. scottser

gb news wasn’t a different opinion, it was more of the same; express, sun, telegraph, mail. if you want a decent objective, professional news service gb news isn’t it.

  4. Zaccone

Good to see a new TV news network that might show a different opinion to Sky/the BBC.

But at the same time – if these people are actual conservatives then presumably they’re big believers in the free market, personal choice etc. A business should surely be free to choose when and where they spend their advertising budget, no?

  5. Jonboy

I watched the section of ‘Tonight Live with Dan Wootton’ with Lady Colin Campbell defending Prince Andrew in which she stated “Jeffrey Epstein was not a paedophile, he’s an ephebophile”.

Edgy stuff, like a real-life reading of a Reddit forum.

      1. Jonboy

I only watched the section with Lady Campbell and to be fair he was trying to move her on and providing balance to what she was saying.

  6. Ghost of Yep

Kirsty Gallacher? I wouldn’t change her channel for espousing dangerous far-right rhetoric and emboldening lunatics to attack and demean the most marginalised people in our societies.

Or whatever they are accused of doing. Who cares. Nobody watches television.

    1. Junkface

      +1
A reactionary own goal after all! Typical stuff. Most of the people I’ve heard from that team photo above are centre left or left wing and not huge fans of the way Boris Johnson operates with his cabinet.

  7. Fergalito

“Brand loyalty” – almost as bad a phrase as “Brand Ambassador.”

Anyway, let them at it – if yer generating outrage you’re doing something right for the bottom line.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it etc.

  8. Clampers Outside

The Stop Funding Hate crowd are running a campaign accusing GB News of ‘hate’ yet I cannot find anything on their site, etc showing why the campaign is being run at all? Where this supposed hate? Anyone?

      1. ce

Can’t wait for the war on “The War on Hate” – should about a successful as the other “Wars on Nouns” …

  9. SOQ

Anything which gives a voice to lockdown sceptics is something I might watch- the poor flat screen hasn’t been used in months. It will probably kick against the cosy M&S ‘work from home no commute darlin’ lockdown stuff for a while- hopefully long enough to wake a few people up.

Its clearly nationalist rather than globalist but, by definition- both are right wing.
