The privilege is all his.

This afternoon.

A desperate last-minute plea handwritten appeal to Dublin Bay South voters from Fine Gael candidate James Geoghegan.

Richard writes:

The sore wrists in YFG after this will be disappointed to hear that the cringiness of this letter alone has ensured James an even lower place on my ballot this Thursday.

… and yet he does some last minute campaigning for him by posting it on BS? Hmm.

Uh-oh. Panic is setting in. Geoghegan is not a good candidate. Simple as that. Kate O’Connell still has a lot of support in her D6 Rathgar/Terenure base – I can’t see all of them turning out for Geoghegan given some of them think she was shafted (kind of correct). Ivana may be indeed in with a good shout.

Thems my thoughts thoughts also. A local source tells me Geoghegan’s team inundated postboxes with bumph, with at least 4 if not 5 leaflet drops. Fortunately, Miss D6 tells me that protection was made in advance of the election by having a “No Junk Mail” sign outside. Alas however, the leaflets from Geoghegan’s gang still broke through. Inquiring further, it transpires that the political parties have got some sort of judgement or legal opinion that helpfully sez political literature is not classified as junk mail. Such bright sparks them politicos, getting an entitlement to post unsolicited mail, Yet alas, Miss D6 does not seem to appreciate this, or the leaflets from Mr Geoghegan about recycling and reducing waste, when that had been the intention of the No Junk Mail sign. The tireless work of our splendid public representatives goes so underappreciated.

PS What exactly has Geoghegan done to date as a public representative in that area; what difference has he made? Why does he not state what his achievements are – if any – as councillor on his leaflets?

This is sad, If he was as hard working as he says he is he wouldn’t need pitiful letters like this.

Yea I got the same note, in a handwritten, unstamped envelope. It’s a cynical strategy to try fool the vulnerable that JG has taken the time to write to them personally. Apparently Varadkar did the same in last GE.

The Social Democrats do this too: ‘Dear Friend’ or ‘Hello Friend’ in the latest appeal. Note to would-be TDs, think again.

my experience in campaigning in the last general election is that door to door campaigning is a waste of money and time. effort should be on social media.

unfortunately i dont see ivanka having a chance. FG are doing well and Leo Varadkar is generally liked by south dublin heads. any other constituency and id say SF have a chance, not in this leafy south dublin suburb. id be SD and i dont know who labour leader is, if ivanka ran as independent id say she would do better than the labour ticket.

james geoghean it will be, sadly. overall the constituents will like that this guy is a son of 2 supreme court judges, they will see it like he is of good character. there was a reason for teh feudal system of passing monarchy and titles downwards.

It was SF’s to win, but the locals were not going to support a blow in. I saw Andrews, as leisurely as you like, ‘pretend’ to canvas. It’s not the old style SF – the party first at all costs – that’s what happens when you bring in Dublin privilege. The level of intense dislike for James is palpable. So do for Ivanka/Labour. DBS once had 2 Labour seats. It will come down to last minute ‘who do dislike least’… can’t see a single FG vote west of Rathmines..
