“…this is the main outcome of Con-vid. It has brought the worst out in people, and we weren’t ever in this together. We are deprived of seeing and hearing other people, and above all, you want to be with others who see and hear what you see and hear, because this is basic oxygen for the human soul. Take it away and people are dead.”

    Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go
    I wanna be infected
Nothing to do nowhere to go-o-oh
    I wanna be infected

    1. SOQ

Latest pop yesterday man in desperate bid for attention shocker who was HEADLINING the event.

      1. Micko

Probably just did himself out of a 20k+ artist fee

He’s sticking to his principles and right or wrong – that’s admirable.

Bozo has claimed victory and will let her rip. I expect a few commenters here will be packing their bags and joining Charger in Blighty.

    1. Micko

Weird that it turns out that Charger was correct in the end though right?

He said we’d get left behind and look where Ireland is now. On that one point he was correct.

The UK following the US example of leading their people out of this.

And we’re still stuck with our thumbs up our butts, with our politicians making decisions that only benefit them and their pals financially.

If the schools don’t come back in Sept, I’m going up North for a few months. The republic is toxic now.

        1. SOQ

And out of 27 countries, only 8 require proof of vaccination, NEGATIVE TEST, or proof of recovery from Covid.

        2. Toe Up

I dine indoors every single day, as I did before the pandemic.

I lie. I actually ate a BBQ outdoors a couple of weeks back, so apologies for the incorrect info.

        3. Junkface

It is crazy how strict they are being with reopening pubs and restaurants in Ireland. Well restaurants mainly, because there are lots of options to make it safer. In Berlin you can go almost everywhere now with outdoor dining (I know, much warmer summers here), some indoor places require a recent covid test or antigen test, but you can sense the relief from these business owners and staff that they can make some money and socialize with customers again.

I fully agree that our politicians are lacking the minerals to lead, instead requiring an abundance of caution, but …

“with our politicians making decisions that only benefit them and their pals financially” … is just a lazy soundbyte. Which pals of which politicians in which industries are actually benefiting from further lockdown?

Unless you’re asserting they are palls with steel chairs inc, Allkindsofmasks.com, Domino’s Pizza or the like?

As for the Republic being toxic, only if you sit around being perennially annoyed by this unseen hand that is making someone, somewhere, profit from something. Suck it up and punish them at the ballot box like a normal person instead of pretending you’re off to Boris’s promised land.

“ Which pals of which politicians in which industries are actually benefiting from further lockdown?”

A few shining examples spring to mind.

Roqu, an events company receiving 14.1 million euro to procure ventilators. They failed.

An events company FFS. Not even a medical one.

And Eamonn Ryan’s brother’s company running antigen testing at the concert the weekend.

Also, as Michael McNamara highlighted last week. One of the members of NPHET runs a lab that has received millions for PCR tests.

I’m sure that plenty more will be revealed in time.

As for the ballot box. Other than independents, who is there to vote for? The two main political parties have joined forces, in a veritable tandemocracy. Each swapping the role of Taoiseach.

          Toxic.

          1. Ronan

So you think there’s a 2-party conspiracy to hold back a €6billion sector of our economy for – lets be generous and call it – €50m in procurement contracts to the lads?

Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence.

          2. U N M U T U A L

            Chapeau micko!

Let’s not forget Ryan asleep on the back carrier…whilst the left cheer them on.
Tour de Farce season is upon us.

          3. Micko

            6 Billion you say Ronan…

Did you know that Ireland’s economy grew in 2020 – an outlier in Europe. Thanks to our tech companies, medical device businesses and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Here’s a piece on French TV discussing Ireland’s progress. Not much talk of it in Ireland though.

Sure the Irish Gov couldn’t give a toss about the hospitality sector. And of course they can all dine inside hotels now too – at our expense. ;)

Pandemic is good for business in Ireland and the last thing they want to do is rock the boat.

          4. Nigellol

So FF, FG and the Greens are keeping the entire country in lockdown at the behest of two industries that were making profits before the pandemic and will no doubt continue to make profits after the pandemic. What a sound grasp of logic and proportion you guys have.

  3. Daisy Chainsaw

Lucky concert goers now get to end the night with a bit of craic from Supergrass instead of a miseryhole.
