Thanks. Watching some rowing at the mo and Irish rowers are in third which, if they hold on to, will see them through to the semi finals.

Sydney is on the brink of losing the battle to Covid (due to half-arsed lockdown (aka #mockdown) by a poor Tory State government, egged on by a poorer Federal Tory government.
I don’t think that was a balanced piece- and is outdated at this stage anyway (Dec 2020).
This piece is worth a read by “Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance” which are “a group of highly published, world renowned Critical Care physician/scholars – with the academic support of allied physicians from around the world”, according to their website.
I see Peru gets a mention here:
” On January 26 (2021), the FLCCC emailed the NIH Panel a recently completed manuscript by the analysts Chamie et al. where they analyzed vast amounts of publicly available (and verifiable) epidemiologic data.8 They found conclusive evidence (after ruling out multiple possible confounders) that widespread ivermectin distribution campaigns repeatedly and closely preceded large reductions in both COVID-19 case-fatality rates and “excess deaths” measured in many regions of Peru and other countries.”
Cian
Peru?
The country that has lost 1 out of every 200 people that were alive 18 months ago?
The country with the highest reported covid deaths?
The country that shows matching excess deaths?
The country with “the hardest lockdown in the world”?
You are actually claiming Peru as an ivermectin success story?
GiggidyGoo
@Cian. Except, your references don’t state whether it was used on the people who died or not.

Ivermectin has its place and the studies that are in say so.
74 independent studies on its effectiveness with many yet to come to an end.
Time will tell, but it does look good for Ivermectin.
It wasn’t from that site I first heard of the 74 being done, and I can’t recall where I read it… I speed read through it and moved on at the time.
I got the above link by just googling “74 current ivermectin studies” and grabbed that first one when I read a few of the sources of the studies… the CDC in the US and a number of recogniseable colleges. There were plenty of other links.

Ahhh I remember how you spun the story of how great Sweden was at the time. We should all follow Sweden says SOQ. Sure they’ve more deaths per capita than we do at this stage.
…What are the results of Sweden’s much-derided laissez-faire policy? Data show the 7-day rolling average for COVID deaths yesterday was zero (see below). As in nada. And it’s been at zero for about a week now..
..Even a year ago, it was clear the hyperbolic claims about “the Swedish catastrophe” were false; ..But a year later the evidence is overwhelming that Sweden got the pandemic mostly right. Sweden’s overall mortality rate in 2020 was lower than most of Europe and its economy suffered far less. Meanwhile, today Sweden is freer and healthier than virtually any other country in Europe.
As much of the world remains gripped in fear and nations devise new restrictions to curtail basic freedoms, Sweden remains a vital and shining reminder that there is a better way.”

Read this about a week ago. Interesting take on Sweden’s “success”.
Actually that final paragraph I wouldn’t entirely agree with considering Sweden was one of the first in Europe to implement the “vaccine passport” system for travel. It’s never black and white
Formerly known as @ireland.com
I’ll take Australia’s Covid success over what happened in Sweden, every time.
Problem is, if they admit Sweden was right then by default the rest were wrong- and they are not going to do that.
Anyways, I am in Belfast- along with half of Dublin by the looks of it. Never in my life did I imagine I’d be in agreement with the DUP- strange times indeed.

@SOQ – I keep telling you that Melbourne went from 700 a day to zero. They work great but you have to control the incoming virus. You can’t have it arriving on the next plane/train/boat. A leak from Sydney has caused another lockdown in Melbourne. We are heading towards zero, again.
Clampers Outside
Sydney went into lockdown this week when 111 cases out of 82,000 tests, and there was death of a man in his 80s.
Lockdowns on this scale with those figures are bananas.

The boo boo yesterday by persons unknown who couldn’t spell the word ‘certificate’has been rectified. They have a new site http://www.irishcovidcertportal.com.
This has thrown up a number of questions though.
We have a Government website and we have a HSE website, so why establish a ‘.org’ website for this?
Who owns the website? The GDPR applies to both data processors and data controllers.
So, who are these for this website?
Has the function been outsourced?
The website registrar is Wild West Domains
It’s hosted on http://www.secureserver.net which is based in Chicago as far as I can ascertain. Doesn’t that mean that personal data of Irish people is being transferred onto a US based server? Your full name, PPS number, Mobile Phone No. , email address and date of birth being shared with all sorts?
Why wasn’t this put on the HSE’s own website?
GiggidyGoo
irishcovidcertportal.org
Ooppps. I made a boo boo. Can I have a government job please? Minister for health perhaps?
Cian
That url points to
IPv4 address for irishcovidcertportal.org
Domain Name Server IP: 20.67.211.168
And that IP resolves to
ISP: Microsoft Corporation
In Dublin.
My guess is that it is being hosted in Dublin in Microsoft’s data centre. So, no, your data isn’t being transferred to the US.
As for GDPR. Regardless of where the physical servers are located the HSE is responsible for GDPR for that data.
GiggidyGoo
Any idea why this isn’t part of the HSEs own site? It seems a bit odd and a bit unprofessional.
And kudos to those students who acted responsibly cutting off the possibility of some scammer lifting lots of information, by directing visitors to the proper site.
Incidentally, type in that Ip address and you get a warning that the site isn’t secure, and that someone may be trying to steal your information. Not good for a government department.
Cian
@GiggidyGoo
Why? I can think of a few reasons. Speed (how fast to set up a domain/get a https cert) being one. Security being another.
Yes, kudos to the students.
You aren’t technical. just Stop, you’re embarrassing yourself.
Over the past few weeks, all sorts of links have been posted here to prove this and that about covid figures etc. There is, however, a common actor in many of them, and a very quick look at the ourworldindata.org reveals that common actor. Oxford University. Ourworldindata.org collates data from places such as Oxford. One has to ask whether such data is correct or not, seeing as Oxford has skin in the game.

the hotel industry is awful shape, with two bit rent by the hour hotels like Fitzpatricks, getting used as homeless shellers.
