There’s a line of thinking that Waiting for Godot is both a partly abstract, quasi- existential allusion to Connemara as well as to in the historical traumas of poverty, famine and emigration.
It always worth trying to pick up some of the late Tim Robinson’s writing on the place, not to mention his wonderful maps. The Clifden Bookshop had a few remaining Burren and Aran Islands maps a few weeks back but the Connemara ones are now impossible to find.
Also if in the area the Books @One shop in Letterfrack is well worth a visit.

Never understood why they had to run a power line directly across the front on Pine Island.

Was there a few weeks ago. A stopover at Mark Joyce’s craft shop on the way is a must. Lots of Connemara marble and his wife’s pottery makes for a fantastic souvenir.
