Behold: the Land Rover Defender ‘Hue 166” – a celebration of the world’s first production SUV by Defender customisers Himalaya 4×4 – combining the vintage styling of the1948 Landy with a slew of modern tech.
To wit: a powerful (if, arguably, blasphemous to purists) 650bhp supercharged LT4 V8 Corvette engine, eight-speed automatic transmission and a four-link coilover suspension system, Dynatrac axles and Brembo disc brakes.
Inside the cabin, there’s a touch screen audio system and high grade leather custom seats and dashboard.
Yours for $300,000 (about €255,000).

Not a huge fan of putting big ignorant gas guzzler engines in classics but I’d say this goes like a brick fired out of a Howitzer
That ignorant gas guzzler does better mpg than the original engine.
Wrong.
They both do between 25 and 29 miles per gallon. But thats based on an original Land Rover engine thats survived from 1948. Progress!
So which would you rather have?
The original 80hp unit or the 600+hp corvette unit?
You want a brick fired from a howitzer? Buy a BEV. Speed is fun. Torque is utterly addictive and BEVs are the best for that.
What if you want the sound of a beefy V8 growling, backed up by the howl of a supercharger?
Move to America so…. They’re mad into that nonsense over there and ownership is attainable. Here less so. Unless you have the best part of 200k+ in Ireland for something you’re flat out of luck.
A vehicle over 30 years old costs 56 euros to tax and minimal insurance costs. A vehicle born before 1980 costs the same in tax and insurance but doesn’t require an nct. No matter what’s under the hood. Not sure you know what you’re talking about there.
My neighbour has 2 1970 Ford Mustangs. They are both 5.7 litre petrol engines. His running costs are minimal.
