it’s a half an hour too long.
and yer wan, the new 007 is a bit useless – i can’t see them building a new franchise around her.

I did fall asleep to Casino Royale in the cinema whenever that was released.

Last Bond movie I bothered with, I didn’t even want to see it, but the ex wanted to see a movie and all the rom coms (thankfully) were sold out for that time so we went to that instead and I promptly nodded off.

Never saw the appeal, in real life Bond would have been helping the paras in Derry or similar so no hero of mine.

of course she’s not the new bond [spoiler removed] is the next movie not supposed to be about a new, possibly female 00 agent? my point was only that if it’s going to be yer wan, the audience weren’t given a whole lot to be excited about in no time to die.

          A) no that’s not what the next bond movie is about
          B) it isn’t going to be yer one
          C) you deffo fell asleep you mad bastard!

          1. scottser

            a) that’s alright then – a female 00 agent would be poop
            b) thanks be to jaysus
            3) it was a long movie and i ran out of popcorn by the time [spoiler]

“a new, possibly female 00 agent”. You might have hit on something there. Maybe the audience will be left unsure the whole way through. Androgynous Bond. As Alan Partridge once said “is that a bit of bush?..Too late!!”

Saw it yesterday. Now we know why Danny Boyle walked away from the script.

Christ knows where they’re gonna take it next but I walked away from a Bond movie on a downer. They’re not supposed to work that way, Bond movies….

      +007

ah I succumbed…my kids wanted to go….and it was awful (didn’t tell them obv), tied-worst with Spectre imo

yep, I’d have loved to seen Boyle have a go at it, usually he does interesting things

a potentially excellent plotline and villian that was only barely examined, snooze opener, pointless other 007, silly implausible ending….slow, bloated, confusing, very ordinary stuff altogether

when I compare/contrast to that initial potential from Casino Royale’s brutal wham-bam opener (people whooped and clapped in the cinema) this was another massive Bond disappointment

oh and the song is tied last place with that Sam Smith dirge

I’ve not time for Bond – why would i cheer for a crass post-imperialist tentacle of the British empire with a “licence to kill” anyone he wants to?

    Vomit ! Spew !

interesting point…..it’s almost like a party political for brexit britain (with a small b) trying to convince us that they’re still an empire, superpower, relevant

maybe we should expect a Bond movie anytime there’s an important G7 meeting coming up, convince the lads that they’re still one of them wha

      1. Fergalito

It does speak to a notion of what a lot of Brexiteers would appear to hold as a shameless exemplar of Britishness. I mean it’s only a film at the end of the day but a powerful ideology is presented at the same time. I suppose we’re no different with our own hagiography. IDK!

Bond never sat right with me, never rooted for him. Always thought the baddies were more charismatic. That said I haven’t seen a Bond movie since Roger Moore!

Fell victim to the hype at the weekend and embarked on one very rewarding activity and one very disappointing one.

    1. Played and researched all 24 Bond theme songs.

Always loved the haunting, mystic drama of a Bond signature track, especially when they were under the direction of the late, great John Barry. As a closet crooner-fan, Matt Monroe’s velvet voice was perfect for ‘From Russia With Love’. Dame Bassey recorded three of them, and you can see why. Nancy Sinatra’s wistful tones are sublime for ‘You Only Live Twice’. Adele and Tina belt out from the depth of their talent, and Garbage do a fine job. On the other hand, Madonna produced a piece of trash which doesn’t represent music, lyrics or anything. Jack Black should never have teamed up with Alicia Keyes and Sam Smith was a disastrous choice. The 1980s tracks have matured with age and Duran Duran’s ‘ ‘A View to a Kill’ is an absolute winner.

    2. Having never watched a post-Brosnan Bond, started watching Casino Royale and fell asleep mid-way. Craig is awful.

    Next Bond?

    Regé-Jean Page
    Tom Hiddleston
    Anya Taylor-Joy
