Coppinger Row, Dublin 2 will close on December 31. The landlord has ended the lease and intends to develop the property

This afternoon.

What a shameful decision. Another money-grubbing move to turn Dublin into a soulless, witless, tumbleweed tourist hotel and tech meeting centre hell, no doubt.

Coppinger Row is harly the mecca of culture. its a restaurant. if a new hotel goes in (alleviating use of Airbnbs for tourists and thus more long term housing), which has a restaurant, whats the difference.

no mention of a hotel. aviva just selling the lease.

Tend to agree, it’s a business, its being replaced by another business, which will probably have a restaurant.

Change is bad, everything must remain the same, in fact scratch that, bring back the brothels and the farriers and the offal victuallers, Dublin is losing it’s soul!!!

“turn Dublin into a soulless, witless, tumbleweed tourist hotel and tech meeting centre hell”

I think you’ll find it’s too late to stop that

Dublin is becoming a big contrived fake, plastic, tech Mecca. Just look at ‘Marys’ opposite the side entrance to Brown Thomas. A fake Irish pub in ireland.

Mary’s actually serves a really good pint and has a lovely atmosphere, and who remembers what was there before?

That aside, Dublin has always bended to US and European influences, and foreign investment, for better and for worse. Cork city is so uniquely Irish – look at its beautiful shop and pub signs. Pretty sure Galway is too, if its crazy road system would allow a visit. Was discussing Waterford Quays recently with a city native and the road system has fupped up that beautiful city too.

I have it on good authority that the atmosphere in Mary’s was sampled in a pub in Drumshambo and transported up to Wicklow St.

Spent many lunches in Coppingers. Surprised it lasted this long. Beautiful food. Not always great service. But hate to see it go. Then again, nah don’t really give a poo. City has to transform. Not a legendary or remarkable eatery.
