Worked fairly close to him and a sociopath he is. In fact, that’s the very description I used at the time.

All I can do is speculate on what might have happened had the Treaty not been signed at the last minute.

Would the Brits have let loose the dogs of war as they had said they would in the event it wasn’t signed or was that just a bluff? Would their dogs of be war have been harsher, more traumatic and leave a more indelible scar than those scars suffered over the course of the Irish Civil War?

All grist for the discursive, supposin’ supposin’ mill. I guess the present is what really matters, the past a barometer though to a lesser extent as time passes – what was once living memory becomes cold text open to misinterpretation, revision and ultimately even meaninglessness like Nirvana piped through the tannoy in the pound shop?

I’m no fan of Dev, but this is fake news. He in no way looks distraught and appears to be only resting his head on his hand as he looks at some notes. Try again Cormac, try harder.

L-R Kathleen Clarke TD, Constance Markievicz TD, Kate O’Callaghan TD, Margaret Pearse, TD.

The two other women TDs who also voted against the Treaty were Ada English and Mary (Máire) MacSwiney.
