Legend has it that the statue doubles as a compass and that his trousers are mearly pointing to the magnetic south pole… :-)

The big globe on the M7, Perpetual Motion. Looks like papier-maché and always brings on a headache, as well as signalling that the nightmare of traffic jams and the stress of getting into Dublin, is just up ahead.

Do the Wax exhibits in Leinster House count?…

If so, that’s my offering… Burnt preferably.

I know some may consider this heresy but the commemoration at Béal na mBláth is absolutely dreadful.
Considering its importance to the history of the Irish state the site where Michael Collins was ambushed and shot is grossly underwhelming.
A puny monument on an ugly red brick plinth surrounded by railings that look like the front gates of a new-build McMansion.
The site itself is superb, almost an ampitheatre and obviously the perfect spot for an ambush.
It lends itself to a much bigger explanation of the events that fateful day and could and should be a big tourist attraction for West Cork.
We visited on a glorious summer’s day a few years ago and in the hour we spent there were the only visitors with perhaps half a dozen cars passing. It’s forgotten and forlorn.
Obviously we paid our respects to the Big Fellow…

ah, thats awful negative looking for least favorite. and am i the only person that loves the spire. its lovely when sun catches it and very noticeable.

anyway, my least favorite, not cause its a bad sculpture but because its put in a neglectful place. its the Anna Livia. Anna Livia statue in dublin. its in a tiny pond in a tiny little garden beside heuston station. and the clientele in that garden dont make it inviting to come in. see this is why i dont like least faviourite it sounds like im moaning and should talk to joe. They are lovely pictures though. very nice.

    Bill Clinton statue, Waterville.

And a quote from the man himself:

“Politics gives guys so much power that they tend to behave badly around women. And I hope I never get into that.”

Why would anyone want a picture of the spike? It’s ugly enough in real life. Apparently it won a competition so God knows what the other entrants were like. Of course the public had no say in the choice.

  8. scoops yeah?

    This:

‘A FIVE-METRE-tall sculpture in red, yellow, green and blue has been unveiled on a plinth outside Dublin City Hall today. The sculpture, titled RGB Sconce, Hold You Nose, was created by artist Alan Phelan. It was formally unveiled by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland.’

    That awful piece in Navan
    “Becoming” tis called

    It’s messy and sloppy
It doesn’t know where it starts or what it’s trying to say

And looks like it was assembled from leftovers around the Artist’s studio
And flogged to the Meath Lads
Fair enough – I can respect that, dumping your scrap off on that shower of xxxxxckers
    And getting paid

It makes you feel sorry for Navan
    That’s how bad tis

    This piece is so awful
    It’s a very good Con Artist’s work

    BTW
    I love the Spire
An elegant perfect point, that’s occupies so little real estate
Yet can be seen for miles
    All around the City
It always surprises when you catch an unexpected glimpse
    And it’s always perfect

It’s transmutation – change from one to another. We have a woman with arms outstretched (worship?). These arms turn to coiled snakes (Moses’ staff) which is the symbol for pharmacy – whose route derives from ‘pharmakia’ (sorcery, medicine, alchemy) .

Only here there is no staff – it’s the woman herself that is enmeshed. It also forms the infinity symbol. There’s another level of change with the brass addition forming the top, rendulant of horns – (Baal) or bull worship.

      Woman/serpant/infinity/baal.

      I don’t like it either. :(
