I’m holding a counter protest, MASK ALL KIDS FOREVER!, at the same time and place.

Let them breathe ? If we have to!
    Let them smile ? Never!

If it’s frenzied desperation you want, you should check out the diminutive denizens of my local pizza joint’s basement.

Not all, some. Particular ones. I’d say that I’m in a majority when it comes to despising a certain cohort. You, being a creature of very little brain, would need someone to explain that to you.

        1. SOQ

A certain cohort the rest of us have yet to find it appears. These mystical ‘far right’ creatures are as rare as leprechauns- but that doesn’t stop the paranoid neurotics from seeing them under every bed. The most ‘right wing’ party of any substance is Fine Gael- but they march at Pride, so everything is grand.

There is absolutely no reason why this child abusing rule should not be removed immediately.

Do you seriously have a comprehension problem? What part of your reply has any relevance to despising a particular cohort of Brits? Shoehorning in your own lack of understanding makes no point at all.

And don’t start me on Fine Gael, the ideological descendants of psychopaths who shot Irish people out of hand, illegally executed helpless prisoners, broke limbs of and disabled prisoners prior to blowing them apart with landmines, conducted savage interrogations with hammers, rifle and pistol butts etc., long before their flirtation with actual fascism.

I’ll file you under old, tired and confused.

For the love of God can everyone stop using the word ‘Cohort’

50 times an effin week I hear it now.

          “This cohort, that cohort! “

It’s the bloody worst reminant of the pandemic. ;-)

          I think I have Long cohort…

          1. Fearganainm

It’s a very old word, from the Latin cohors, plural cohortes, once specifically used to describe a standard tactical military unit of a Roman legion. The meaning of the word has evolved to become a descriptor for a group of people with [a] shared characteristic/s. Your association of it with the pandemic is somewhat bizarre.

          2. Micko

            Ohhhhhh reaaaahhhheeeallly. Bizarre ye say?

            Google “cohort” there.

            Press news.

See how many news stories with cohort have Covid 19 in the title.

It’s a lot. 7/10 stories in my feed. The word bounced back into our collective lexicon around the time we started rolling out vaccinations.

This cohort, that cohort etc etc.

          3. Fearganainm

Calm down. If you react like this to a noun that’s been in use for centuries you’re going to end up with hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia.

            It’s a slippery slope you’re on.

          4. Micko

            Ah… I’m right though yeah?

Besides, this kinda thing interests me. How we all influence each other. ;)

          5. Fearganainm

No, you’re not right. The use of the word pre-dates the pandemic and and will also likely be found in any discussion/breakdown of statistical tables – e.g. a census, evaluation of exam results, other medical research findings etc.

Plus, Google’s algorithms have a tendency to serve you up results based on your prior reading/research, not everyone will get the same ‘cohort’ results as you.

Sesquipedalophobia might be easier to put on your medical certificate, if you do decline any further.

          6. Fearganainm

            Lolz

“Without saying so, show me that you never read a research paper in your life before the appearance of Covid-19”

          7. Micko

            Christ fearg

            a) I wasn’t actually being serious, it was just a funny thingy I noticed and was mildly amused by. (And now you will notice it too – EVERY SINGLE TIME – enjoy)

            b) I know how ze Google works. some would say quite the expert actually. Blowing the aul trumpet there ;)

            c) And finally, (can’t believe I’m actually saying this..) I did know the word “cohort” existed before the Rona.

Coz…ummm… that’s how language works. We have to agree on the words beforehand.

          8. Fearganainm

Well, of course you’d say that NOW – you’ve probably been Googling frantically and found squillions of examples from decades ago.

“Irish speakers aged 3 years and over by frequency of speaking Irish, 2016 36 . Note that the cohort ‘Speaks Irish daily within the education system only’ makes up 31.55% of the total.”

            https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Irish-speakers-aged-3-years-and-over-by-frequency-of-speaking-Irish-2016-36-Note-that_fig2_349085905

The c-word, from 2016. Almost as if the word is routinely used by number crunchers/researchers as a way of describing/identifying a subset and has been a feature of bazillions of articles since fadó, fadó.

            As you know yourself.
