‘These Measures Are Temporary’

at

Last night/this morning.

Via CNN

The Canadian government is invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time to address the impact of continued protests across the country over Covid-19 health measures.

The Emergencies Act can provide for the use of the military, but may not necessarily lead to that, and Trudeau said the government is not bringing them in.

But it can temporarily suspend citizens’ rights to free movement or assembly. And the government is taking steps to stop financial support of illegal protests.

    Disagree with the government?

    Have your bank accounts frozen.

I’m sure the officers of the Irish State will be along any minute now to…

…copy this initiative and make it their own.

    Truck you Trudeau!!

      “Disagree with the government?

      Have your bank accounts frozen.”

That’s a bit of a massive jump you’re making there now lad.

      1. hmmm

        ^ Found one ^

In 6 weeks time Kim will be insisting the same measures must be applied here…

        …’cos you know…

…it’s racist to disagree with your government.

        1. Kim The Cardassian

Found what? Wy would I be insisting the same measures apply wherever “here” is? And why is it racist to disagree with your government?

          I’m all ears.

          1. Micko

            I think you’re both correct

It is a giant leap to think that that could happen with private bank accounts right now.

            and

It is incredibly worrying that money donated to a private entity on behalf of some people to an individual cause, could be stopped because a government wants it to be.

If nothing else, this should be a warning to people as to the dangers of all currency and money transactions going digital. If the powers that be of the day don’t like what a group has to say or are inconvenienced by it, they get their proxies to shut it down financially.
Historically, the overconcentration and centralisation of powers financially has mostly led to bad outcomes. The same is true of go fund me type sites. New alternatives will emerge over time to rectify things as best as they can and get around some new regulations.
People shouldn’t lose sight of all that these protesters have achieved. They haven’t taken the bait and have stayed peaceful despite constant provocation. They are getting their message across to the general public.

Daddy Trudeau invoked the emergencies act to respond to a kidnapped foreign diplomat and a local politician. Baby Trudeau invoked the same to respond to a kids bouncy castle and the biggest love-in Canada has ever experienced.

From The Canadian Civil Liberties Association

“The federal government has not met the threshold necessary to invoke the Emergencies Act. This law creates a high and clear standard for good reason: the Act allows government to bypass ordinary democratic processes. This standard has not been met.

The Emergencies Act can only be invoked when a situation “seriously threatens the ability of the Government of Canada to preserve the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Canada” & when the situation “cannot be effectively dealt with under any other law of Canada.””

And all for what? Restrictions which are going to have to removed anyways. It just does not make sense, unless- it is a ploy to prevent same from happening in the US where more serious social upheaval is near guaranteed to occur.

Well in fairness 70 000 people were at the Super Bowl- shouting and cheering- without masks. Meanwhile the school children have to wear masks because… science.

But I do agree that trying to debate with Johnny is quite challenging- this is pretty much a visual representation I think.

Careful there, johnny lad, you’re drooling & the spittle is flecking your screen as you rant.
I’m unsure if gormlessly implying that pro-freedom protestors are “right wing” is just ignorant posturing or actual nascent fascism but, either way, I’m sure those reading it will treat it with contemptuous humour, despite its ugliness. The government, acting in lockstep with the corporate world, to control the citizenry, that’s a textbook case of fascism.
It’s beyond moronic to even think that events in New York, 700 kilometres from Ottawa, across the blockaded border, have anything to do with the mood in Canada.
Get a grip, dude, a job won’t help your idiotic reliance on childish Ad Hominem attacks to push your far-right world-view.
I am bursting with pride at how the truckers have conducted themselves & the contrast with Justin Castreau’s minority government could hardly be more stark.

    1. SOQ

Teamsters union only represent 15 000 long haul truck drivers in Canada- less than 15% of that group. Not that any of the unions were ever in support anyways- it was, and is, a grass roots movement.

Also, most of those protesting would have to own their own trucks so more likely to be self employed or SME- therefore much less likely to be unionised in the first place.

      1. johnny-ny.

keep calm and be union strong.

I learned a long time ago, never wrestle with a pig. You get dirty and besides, the pig likes it- George Bernard Shaw.

    2. K.Cavan

What fantastic mid-wittery, johnny. Canadians are actually protesting multiple direct assaults on UN-mandated human rights, most pointedly, the right to earn a living & to bodily autonomy & the Teamsters are, as pointed out above, an organised crime syndicate, from another country.
No Canadian gives a flying one what they think.

    1. K.Cavan

Sorry, Boe, your disgusting fantasy of a military assault on protesting citizens can remain in your little fascist head.
The majority of Canadians have never voted for the Liberals & never will. Even by the low numbers that Canadian PMs normally garner, Trudeau’s current approval rating of 16% is half of the percentage of votes his party received in the last election. He’s disgraced himself with his open contempt for ordinary working-class Canadians, while extolling astroturfed Globalist shysters who idolise crack-head hoodlums.
He won’t be ordering in the troops because of his deep & well-founded worry that the answer from the Armed Forces will be No/Non.

Citizens of “Five eyes” member country think that they live in a democracy.
