Last night.
Gate Theatre, Dublin 2.
The opening night of Endgame by Samuel Beckett starring Frankie Boyle (yes, that one), Seán McGinley, Gina Moxley and Robert Sheehan.
From top: Camille O Sullivan and Aidan Gillen; Sinead Gleeson; Sebastian Barry and Deirdre Deegan; Rick O’Shea; Carl Austin and Tara Flynn; Owen Roe and Ethan Roe; Jim Sheridan and Deirdre O’Kane; Helen Steele and Bairbre Power; Katie Davenport and Emma Coen and Martin and Mary McAleese.

Meanwhile….
…via Irish Times:
…It comes as a surprise in Dayna Taymor’s fresh, absorbing revival for the Gate Theatre that when we first meet Hamm, he moans affectedly about his pain as if someone more superficial than despotic. “Can there be misery loftier than mine?” he says, with self-fascination, in Frankie Boyle’s thoughtful performance…
Endgame review: Absurd family comedy set at the end of the world (Irish Times)

cat ears on a hat, on someone over the age of four ….I could say something, but I’ll just say meow
see, nobody understands gillen’s accent. before they went out, aiden says ‘make sure you wear something formal because the former president will be here’. camille heard ‘something something haroo haroo ya bhoy ya wear them cat’s ears why dontcha’.
…mrkgnao…for my money, Camille is one of the most talented in that line-up…in the audience anyway…
I enjoy Frankie Boyle
…me too…would love to see this…know someone with tickets for next weekend…really envious…
Wait, Frankie Boyle !?
In Beckett? Acting?
What?
…yep…playing Hamm, the lead…inspired casting!
Wow – Frankie’s a ticket, gas man. Love what he does.
More power to him.
Went to see it Saturday night. Not a Beckett fan but Frankie Boyle was impressive, I wouldn’t want to be at the back of the theatre for this. Sheehan is great. Enjoyed it but would need a gun to my head to sit through it again, but that’s Beckett for me.
My guess is that Frankie said ‘Feck it’
I’ll give it a lash playing Beckett:
I look like a Hamm,
and am long off the dram
So The Gate can be sure I won’t wreck it.
Hope you got a few pound Bodger for doing this story. I bought a ticket for this show after seeing this article.
