West Midlands police have asked a judge to exclude reporters from a hearing in which they will attempt to force a journalist and former MP who exposed the Birmingham Six’s wrongful conviction to reveal his source material.

The force have applied for an order under the Terrorism Act 2000 compelling Chris Mullin to hand over material, including notebooks, from his 1985-86 investigation into the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings, which killed 21 people and injured more than 200.

…Officers believe Mullin has interviews that could confirm the identity of a surviving member of the IRA gang now thought to be behind the pub bombings. Relatives of victims of the bombings have criticised the former MP for refusing to disclose the names of living suspects.

    I would question the legality of using the 2000 law. There is a principle of ex post facto, whereby a later law cannot be applied to a crime or issue that occurred prior to the enactment of the law. In this case, 11 years since the quashing of the Birmingham Six convictions.

    Unless a direct correlation to an ongoing known threat directly related to that event, it cannot have any legal standing, and I am surprised it is even being considered by the court.

    And he definitely didn’t try the excuse that the Brits made him do it.

    Is it knuckle dragging to have an alternate view of geopolitics?

    Personally I think President Putin was correct to assist his fellow Russians, that have suffered horrifically since the US sponsored Maidan overthrew the democratically elected president and installed a pro-Western stooge.

    Maybe we just get our news from different outlets.
