Great to see the brave ordinary people out protesting against naked aggression in Russian cities in open defiance of genuine rather than faux or imagined tyranny tonight. Hopefully we may see a second real revolution that will rid the world of this odious despot Putin who may have bitten off quite a bit more than he can digest. And as for the folks in denial this is happening well they are Ireland’s equivalent of Comical Ali and should be taken with a few kilos of salt. The other school of thought is of course is those who confidently predicted the fall of Kyiv tonight based exclusively on their Call of Duty expertise.

“Together with our grief we feel shame. What’s the next step? A nuclear salvo? We’re going to release this next edition of Novaya Gazeta in two languages because we will never see Ukraine as an enemy or Ukrainian as the language of the enemy. Only an anti-war movement of Russians in my opinion can save life on this planet.”

A courageous move from the editor of Novaya Gazeta and 2021 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dmitry Muratov, who called for protests against the war.

It’s delightful to see our one littlest despot worshipper on here get all his wet dreams come true at once, it must have been so hard on (geddit?) the Craythur keeping his love that dared not speak its name so quiet these past few years

I’m happy for all the little Putin apparatchiks on here, the usual Sinner bluffers and gobspoo armchair army

Tell me who allows over a hundred billion of oligarchs money to roll through IFSC? That’s right – FFG.

        1. goldenbrown

          correct

and I’d bet there’s people on here who’d trade Ukraine + a few thousand lives if it meant they could keep changing the new car every 2 years instead of 3

as regards the local politics I’ll be voting them 1,2 next GE regardless

          A.B.FFG

In fairness, there’s no reason not to give them a go at Governing
and I suspect the voter will see that too, and I’m one of them

Like, why not give them a go, Sinn Fein can’t be any worse

            That said
I don’t think they will do anything different to the FF FG way of doing business
Jobs and appointments all internal, SPADs, directed funding to special interests and constituencies, (which might look it isn’t a bad thing, like less tennis court in Wesley and more changing rooms for Donore Avenue Althletic – but it is still influence for own special interests.)
Pay perks and promotion, quangos and contracts
            Media directions and control
Even their own policy documents, they’ll just get parked, and they’re pretty flimsy anyway
So they’ll do a Fine Gael 2011-2016, blame the mess the last crowd left behind for all the broken promises

Be delighted to be proved wrong
But you’ll know as soon as they pick their Seanad freebies, gigs in the Minister’s Office, and who gets into those “The Minister seeks to Appoint” slots

Mairead McGuinness on Newsnight discussing EU “sanctions”
questioned directly about the possibility of disconnecting Russia from SWIFT
    responds with sidestep babble

disconnect them now and stop with yer dithering doublespeak

    1. SOQ

You do realise what that means? No financial transfers in or out of the country and nothing supplied from Russia.

What is it that Russia supplies to the west that is so important? Gas.

      1. goldenbrown

and where do you draw the line SOQ? Putin has invaded a sovereign European neighbour and indeed has being busy manipulating and destabilizing our own peaceful society for years now. what part about that do you not get exactly? fupp them and their gas. this goes waaay beyond fertilizer and gas and whatever other cash wash is going on. take their assets and access to currency and watch the rats eat each other; yes the ordinary citizens of Russia will suffer as well but they’re being cheated by him already for years. he must be deleted and the only people who can possibly do it realistically are the citizens of Russia themselves. they have to get off their arses and do something about him.

Putin won’t last too long with SWIFT turned off. also halt Mastercard and Visa flows, delete their brass plates and tackle any other well known routes. it’s the only card he doesn’t hold at this point and the one they really need to keep their honey flowing so I say burn it and destabilize him

you know from your basic history what happens when you prance around spoofy tactics of appeasement with a looper like Putin…it’s playing right into his hands

Every single soldier guarding Zmiinyi Island, or Snake Island, in the Black Sea has died, Zelenskiy has said. The Ukrainian president said he will honor the thirteen soldiers posthumously.

“Reportedly audio from Snake Island in Black Sea:

    – This is a Russian military ship. I suggest you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and unnecessary victims. Otherwise we will open fire on you.

    – Russian military ship, go fuck yourself.

    They were all killed”

    Epitaph on a Tyrant
    W. H. Auden

Perfection, of a kind, was what he was after,
    And the poetry he invented was easy to understand;
He knew human folly like the back of his hand,
    And was greatly interested in armies and fleets;
When he laughed, respectable senators burst with laughter,
And when he cried the little children died in the streets.

A potential factor in Russia’s current military operation in Ukraine: a pre-emptive strike in the context of an ever more precarious bioweapons arms race.

The Ukraine has several biolabs which operate under the auspices of the US Department of Defense. Russia is also in the process of building a series of BSL4 labs situated at its borders. There’s an imaginary line between so called “Biodefence” and “Biowarfare”. The subject is of course outside the narrow Overton window of acceptable discourse set by corporate media – unless in the context of narrative managing.

    https://www.opindia.com/2022/02/russia-ukraine-invasion-bioweapons-labs-patrushev-putin-wuhan-coronavirus/

‘As Russia has started attacking military installations in Ukraine, there are speculations that the United State’s Biolabs that have been established in Ukraine in the name of research and defence are also among the targets. The US has several such labs in Ukraine under its “Biological Threat Reduction Program”….

…On several occasions, Russia has accused the US and Ukraine of developing bio-weapons close to its borders. In 2021, while talking about the inability of the World Health Organisation to establish the origin of the Covid-19 virus, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev told Kommersant reporter that Russia believed the US was developing bio-weapons near its borders’…

Another juvenile response. If you’can’t engage with the points at hand and are reducing yourself to ad hominem, it doesn’t reflect well.

          1. SOQ

Yes f_lawless please desist. We will not tolerate any semblance of balance or investigation of the Russian motives for this invasion. They just woke up one morning and decided to invade- as you do.

    1. George

Russia has over a thousand nuclear weapons and they can reach the US in 20-30mins. Nobody is attacking Russia.

The director of Moscow’s Meyerhold theatre, Yelena Kovalskaya, has resigned in protest at the war in Ukraine. “It’s impossible to work for a murderer and receive a salary from him.”. It’s important to recognize what are moments of extreme bravery from Russians living in a brutally repressive dictatorship. A brief glance online tonight and one can witness the real brutality a totalitarian regime hands out to any form of peaceful anti-war protest. Do the usual suspect brave anon Russian apologist quislings and apparatchik bots and trolls here only operate in Moscow time as I can’t believe BS has been de-Kremlinized !

      1. Trustin Judeau

EU knows that cutting Russia off swift will hurt them more than it will hurt Russia.

First casualty of war is usually the truth.

AP will be looking for more crisis actors like they used in Syria; that the old bird caked in blood that made all the front pages looks suspect.

The world will be a better place with a few less Bandera fans.

This skirmish was caused by NATO expansionist and containment policies aimed at Russia.

Russia’s forces have entered the Obolon district in Kyiv, where the Ukrainian military is currently fighting them. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry ask residents not to leave their house and prepare Molotov cocktails. The district is approximately 10 km from central Kyiv.

    https://twitter.com/KyivIndependent/status/1497122294258229253

As they arrived in Obolonsky, within the city, the Ministry of Defence’s Facebook page urged civilians to resist: “We urge citizens to inform us of troop movements, to make Molotov cocktails, and neutralise the enemy.”

One thing is for certain – Putin would never have invaded if Trump was in the White House.
Biden has been an utter disaster as POTUS and Vlad and the Chinese will make hay as long as that old fool is in position.
The Afghanistan withdrawal shambles was a clear signal to them that America can be humiliated.
    Trump will run again.
    And win.
Especially when he sees the Democrats get mullahed in the midterms.

    1. bisted

…Trump and Biden are six of one and half dozen of the other…Trump continued bombing Somalia during his term and Biden was bombing them yesterday…Trump and the Tories supplied the bombs that Saudi and AEU carpet bombed Yemen with yesterday…the hypocrisy…

    2. George

Trump approves of Putin’s actions. “Genius” he said.

“Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine, of Ukraine, Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful.”

  12. SailorGerry

I take no pleasure in any human suffering, there will always be innocent people that die in a conflict.

The half million children that died in the Iraq war, directly due to US bombings and sanctions, but clearly “the price was worth it” on that occasion as the hideous ghoul Allbright said.

If the yanks had not financed the colour revolution, it is unlikely this conflict would have ever started.

Don ‘t remember too many dead civilians from Afghanistan or Iraq making the front pages days after America’s misadventures in both countries. To name just two.

Despite the current easing of domestic restrictions here in Ireland, further afield the push for a permanent digital ID biosecurity surveillance system appears to be still ongoing

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/suzannerowankelleher/2022/02/24/national-vaccine-quietly-rolled-out/

A (US) National Vaccine Pass Has Quietly Rolled Out And Red States Are Getting On Board

..the SMART Health Card, a verifiable digital proof of vaccination developed through the Vaccination Credential Initiative (VCI), a global coalition of public and private stakeholders including Microsoft, Salesforce, Oracle, the Mayo Clinic and other health and tech heavyweights..

..Every Canadian province has now adopted SMART Health Card verification, as has Aruba, the Cayman Islands, Singapore and Japan. And in Africa, the SMART Health Card has rolled out in Kenya and Rwanda, just the first of 32 African countries in the “Smart Africa” alliance to adopt a digital-first approach to healthcare records..

..having a vaccine verification system in place prepares the U.S. for the next coronavirus variant as well as the inevitability of a future pandemic”

    Meanwhile:

    https://telecoms.com/513608/dt-chosen-to-help-create-global-heath-passport/

“The World Heath Organization.. wants to ‘facilitate’ its 194 member states to introduce digital vaccination certificates. To do so it’s setting up a ‘gateway’ to standardize the issuing of QR codes that confer privileged health status to their owner. Deutsche Telekom subsidiary T-Systems has been chosen as an industry partner to develop the vaccination validation services..

…but, with the UK ending all Covid-related restrictions and many other countries headed in that direction, this renewed zeal for the mandating of vaccines proven to have limited efficacy is baffling. It’s almost as if organizations like the WHO are reluctant to relinquish the massive increase in their power the pandemic conferred.”

  15. SailorGerry

The QR code is another step on the road to the one world government that the WEF and the UN want.

It should be resisted at every opportunity.

EU website below still pushing the green pass concept hard.

Have your say they said, “shove it up your arse”, might not have been what they wanted to hear, but hopefully they hear it from more than just me……
