Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald (above right) joined Labour TD Ivana Bacik (pic 8) to address the No Woman Left Behind Rally For International Women’s Day organised by The National Women’s Council, at which no female members of government were invited to speak.

It’s all right-on, isn’t it?
good. im glad no government party women were invited. they repeatedly make life harder for women. and then want to go on stage and say how much they want to help their sisters. the council were right to not allow them the opportunity to speak out both sides of their mouths.
+1.
not letting people speak out of both sides of their mouths. lol
They let a party leader on stage to talk about female equality who hounded a female TD out of the party for having the audacity to get pregnant.
I head she called her a ” fecking egit “
I read an interview with her in the examiner and she sounds completely entitled and a bit of a header to be honest. all her complaints about SF are basically not having everything done for her, and having to do actual work. she thought winning the seat was winning the lotto, and she could kick back and relax. she did this big dramatic exit claiming to be bullied, can’t give any proper details at all, did countless interviews, slagging the party loads, but didnt give up her well paid position of course.. couldn’t go that far.. so shes STILL there even after doing all that. then she had a baby the other day, and complained that Mary Lou didnt ring her to congratulate her, said all she got was a gift basket.

I would have thought the minister for Justice should have been invited.
The highest ranking female minister. Beat out a lad with serious male entitlement issues for the job. Became the first minister to avail of maternity leave. All very progressive and should be acknowledged. A good example of progress in the workplace. Leaving aside government policy on things like redress, housing, health……
Why? She’s done nothing to help other women while in Government, while doing well for herself.
once McEntee got her seat, she fell pregnant, then set about changing Dail rules so she and other women TD’s can take maternity leave. FG and thusly the media acted like she was some kind of Rosa Parks and had done something amazing. All she did was help people who already have it easy, this didnt help the public at all. Plenty of photos of her waving from the top of the courthouse steps to a flurry of press.
Second thing she did, was fast track a process to allow migrants to stay in ireland legally. This quick action came about right after big business owners had been complaining to their TD friends that migrant workers have either gone home or won’t return to their low paid jobs, meaning these big businesses struggle to run without slave labour. McEntee made this change to satisfy those big business owners, to encourage low paid migrants to take back up their positions. Again, photo shoot outside the Dail with the migrants who strangely all had signs that looked like they were made by the one printer. There were two designs and they were repeated. Obviously handed out for the photos. McEntee came out to them for literally 5 seconds, did a wave, looked like she was terrified to catch something off one of them, and bolted back into Leinster house.
And that is the most progressive a woman FG have ever had. Still a long way off where they need to be.
Yeah, a joke of a Minister she is too, John. An embarrassment.
Rubbish.
theyre not being left out because of health and housing. They’ve been instrumental on making life hard specifically for women. Voting to suppress mother & baby home reports. All the victims are women and that was extremely disrespectful and harmful to them. Lots of the FF crowd voted no to repealing the 8th. The FG women are part of a party who said the victims of the cervical cancer screening scandal wouldn’t have to go to court… all were dragged thru every court in the land. look, the list goes on and on of what those parties have done to women, and the women in them adeptly support every move their parties make.. so having them on stage to say “no woman left behind” would be insulting. It’s the correct move. I do think you’re a government social media bot tho, so I probs wasted my time here.
They all have lovely bottoms
so is that all women or just ones that menstruate?
*ducks and legs it back to the man cave where things makes sense*
can I join you, I’ll wear a beard, drink beer and fart
Ah, Mna Na hÉireann. They’re great, aren’t they? The Sisterhood, chortle. The idea that women in opposing political parties might bury the hatchet for this makey-uppy day is just silly, girly nonsense, as if.
International Women’s Day is for International Women, maybe, not the local bints?
Anyway, it’s clear that the ascension of women into political power has definitely led to everything, everywhere getting far, far better, hasn’t it? Democracy has been cancelled, human rights across the globe have seen an unprecedented collapse, the average Sheila has seen not a single improvement, despite the moving sentiment of “No Woman Left Behind” (sigh!), women can’t even have their own toilets or dressing-rooms any more, because sexual exhibitionism by Autogynephile men must be accomodated, TERF wars (I know!) have torn the Sisterhood apart.
A Swedish friend talked recently about how Swedish politics is crawling with women who appear on TV, crying about decisions they have to make that will impact some people negatively, actually bawling out tears.
Then they go ahead, anyway.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss…
In case you wanted to know just how white the NCWI and friends really are.
Is that Clampers holding up the picture of the Contessa?

“…It is disgraceful that a working class activist who has worked selflessly for her community for many years was rejected…including (by) many women councillors who ironically will be marching around on International Women’s Day demanding that more women be encouraged to go into public life…”
