This afternoon.

Dail Eireann.

Alan Duncan, Labour TD and potential party leadership candidate, flexes his Russiaphobia shares his concern about Russians working at the embassy when we have ‘no strong trade or cultural links’ with Russia.

Yup. Under Bacik they’ll try to compete with the Greens and SocDems for the already very small number of urban, middle class, social justice left voters.

SF will be delighted – what remains of Labour’s working class, and rural, support will move straight over to them in no time.

Poor Russia. First the Ukranians and now the Labour party are being mean to them.

…not to mention the ratlickers taking their side…maybe the antivaxxers are having a demaskus moment…

‘You lot are in bed with Nazis’

If you oppose the invasion of one country by another, you are thereby in bed with the worst people in that country? That was the same argument they used before Iraq II. ‘Objectively pro-Saddam’ was the phrase. Better than being subjectively pro-Putin, I suppose.

And of COURSE the trucker Nazis weren’t real! They were just playing around with their Nazi flags which they happened to have lying around and never get to use!

          1. SOQ

One flag waved once Nigel and the (naïve) reason for that has been well explained.

Now would you like to account for your friends?

          2. SOQ

Actually Chris, Canada does have a Nazi history- albeit not an overt one, more as a refuge after the second world war.

In the immediate postwar period, Canada’s then Liberal government, working in close cahoots with US and British intelligence, opened Canada’s doors to Ukrainian Nazi collaborators. These included members of the infamous 14th Grenadier Division of the Waffen SS, also known as the Galicia Division.

The scale of the influx of Nazi collaborators only became public knowledge in the 1980s. A comprehensive study carried out by Alti Rodal on behalf of the federal government-appointed Deschênes Commission of Inquiry on War Criminals in Canada uncovered records proving that US intelligence agents in Europe had funneled Nazi collaborators from Eastern Europe through the Canadian immigration system using false papers.

Maybe that somewhat explains Trudeau’s government’s behaviour- especially Chrystia Freeland- and how Zelensky and Trudeau are such good buddies.

          3. Nigel

‘Canada has no history of neo-nazi groups.’

Thise flags at the antivaxx convoy suggest otherwise.

‘Asking these questions doesn’t mean you support Putin or the invasion.’

It pretty much does, because why ask them now when they’re being invaded by the guy laughably claiming to be danzifying Ukraine?

            ‘Maybe that somewhat explains’

            Nice bit of smearing.

          4. Chris

Your retorts are getting more nonsensical Nigel. You’ve really shown yourself to be a political dilettante these past few months. Was anyone arming the ‘truckers’ with grenade launchers?

            https://twitter.com/nexta_tv/status/1501171543371665408?s=20&t=jGay7em-wLu91mASEFrsFw

No, you’re the boy that cried wolf, ran off when no-one believed your nonsense & now we have armed & funded neo-nazi’s and you choose to keep shtum. A political prostitute, writ large for all to see.

        2. Daisy Chainsaw

You must have so much to discuss with Irish nazis, you know your pals with the nooses?

          1. SOQ

You were the one screaming NAZIS at the Canadians when there was zero evidence of such and now, when it is irrefutable, because it doesn’t suit your corporate agenda- complete silence.

Hypocritical doesn’t even begin to describe it. Oh and if you want to see the real Irish far right looks like- give it two or three years until some of these individuals settle in.

Because they are exactly the types to be now leaving Ukraine.

          2. Daisy Chainsaw

There are nazi scum in every country, even Ireland. Sure, why don’t you do something usefull instead of trawling tiktok for the latest dance craze and get onto the Russian ambassador and ask him to de-nazify us too.

          3. Daisy Chainsaw

What’s “temper temper” about telling you there are nazis in every country, most of whom were against lockdowns, masks and vaccines, just like you.

Bit odd that you only seem to be against Ukraine’s nazis but actively support Irish, Canadian and US ones.

          4. Nigel

‘Hypocritical doesn’t even begin to describe it’

What describes supporting an invasion because the country being invaded has Nazis in it, especially when the army invading is full of its own far right-ethnonationalists?

          5. SOQ

I find it really funny that here you lot are, after years of trying to paint ordinary decent people with far right, fascist and Nazi smears- now in support of the real deal.

And they are not some fringe like elsewhere, but right in the middle of the body politic of a country whom everyone is now supposed to cheer on.

The cloak of woke is most definately slipping.

          6. Nigel

They are not right in the middle of Ukraine’s body politic, but even if they were, it would not justify Putin’s invasion.

You, on the other hand, have been praising the socks off the likes off Ron ‘Don’t Say Gay’ DeSantis, and all the other anti-vaxx far-right US Republicans busy banning abortion, criminalisng being trans, and clearing books out of schools and libraries, so I haven’t been so much smearing as accurately describing you.

          7. SOQ

The equivalent of Azov in the US army would be an entire battalion of the KKK. That would obviously be unacceptable but for some bizarre brain washed reason, it is acceptable to support such in Ukraine.

All of that is bad enough but to then accuse others of doing what you are doing yourself, points to a mind boggling lack of self awareness.

take a scoot over to 186 Orwell Rd on Google Earth
    that’s some site
    last imagery was April 2020
major construction works were happening there
    for something so small
    what are they doing indeed..

    1. Liam Deliverance

Yes indeed, quite a large site and a lot of buildings, I wonder how it compares to other embassies

    2. Maura

Can you take a scoot to the US and UK embassies on google earth – don’t have savvy to do it myself but would like to know when the last imagery from those locations was available.

      1. Cian

Hmm… both embassy looks like 2022 imagery. Their images match the surroundings (shadows) leafage etc. But nothing interesting in either compound – parking and a buildings.

      2. goldenbrown

tis easy Maura and nicer to use than plain google maps
        – just dial up earth.google.com
        – paste in 186 Orwell Rd in search
        – zoom right in and fly around the site like you have a drone by scrolling/dragging your mouse

        around the back Cian…make sure you’re in 3D mode…

that’s cut and cover basement works going on right there lots of poured concrete

for such a relatively small population in Ireland
and small amount of trade/other matters
that’s a LOT of buildings and infrastructure above ground (nevermind even what’s underground like)

its not so much an embassy building more a compound

The Journal has learned that intelligence agency staff are located at the embassy.

These intelligence agencies include the GRU which is the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Their role is military intelligence and security sources said the agency has a massive global footprint with a significantly advanced technology capability for monitoring and providing secure communications.

It is believed also that the SVR, the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, has agents based in Ireland.

    1. Maura

It’s well known that any large embassy/embassy from large country is rife with all sorts of spooks doing the diplomatic thing; even smaller diplomatic missions have their intelligence-gathering people. Nothing to get ones knickers twisted about.

    2. f_lawless

I suppose we should count ourselves fortunate that for years British Intelligence services have been hoovering up all of Ireland’s internet traffic and also sharing it with US intelligence.

      https://www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/government-accused-of-cowardice-over-tapping-of-cables-1.2022045

‘The Government has been accused of cowardice for “putting its head down” and declining to comment on the news that Irish telecommunications cables have been targeted by British intelligence.

Documents released via the National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden outline how a series of underwater cables connecting Ireland to the global telecoms grid are being tapped..

..Dr TJ McIntyre, lecturer at University College Dublin school of law and chairman of advocacy group Digital Rights Ireland, said the activity outlined in the documents amounted to mass surveillance and that “literally everything” transmitted via the internet in Ireland was being monitored.’

  4. Cian

I think that majority of the staff of the Russian embassy should be told to leave. Ambassador and one or two support staff can stay.
