Always interesting when a punk rock hero grows up to be a bigger fascist than Bill Grundy ever was

    https://twitter.com/consequence/status/1509203908698288134

Good to see the Daily Excrements go to rent a quote point man Ray Bassett for their weekly “Ireland’s on the brink” Irexit disinformation fantasy get a good shoeing by the Trinners chaps in his bid for a Senate seat with 3% of the vote. Par for the course for Herman K’s Sieg Heil brigade.

Bill Grundy wasn’t a fascist, he was a drunken, out of touch, grumpy old git with an inflated sense of his own self worth, just like lydon.

      1. K.Cavan

To Wokies, everyone’s a fascist or nazi from WW2 or to blame for slavery, which is even older. They’re weirdly obsessed with the past. The past, their genitals, obedience to the state & people from Third World countries who all hate Wokies.
I suppose it’s good to have a hobby but less so to have so many outdated hobby-horses.

Well based on current stats autocrats represent the biggest clear and very much present danger to the world

…despite the absence of data, it is suspected that Broadsheet commenters do not present any danger to anything…although untested, it is also thought that an inverse relationship exists between the level of aggression and the level of actual threat…

31/03/22, the date the EU pays for gas in Roubles or…..what? The Russians turn off the taps? They supply 155 billion cubic metres of Europe’s 500 billion per annum. So far, the EU has brokered a deal for 14 million from the US, a fart of gas, compared to what’s needed. Our glorious leader Von der Layen, I think she’s called, has responded by saying Europe won’t be blackmailed over energy supplies but the EU & it’s owner, the US, is actually the side doing all the blackmailing. What a useless woman she is.
If the SHTF, hope you all make it out alive, luckily, the fan is unlikely to be working because of power cuts.
It’s pretty obvious, now, who these sanctions are actually aimed at & you’re it.

The Germans called their bluff and the Russians back tracked yesterday – there simply isn’t any mechanism in capital markets currently to allow payments in RUB even if the west was willing to which they aren’t. The only way that you could make this work would be for the Central Bank of Russia to swap RUB for EUR via say Gazprom, gas still being priced in EUR, and both the RUB and EUR then going back to Russia. Its the same as the lunatic idea of the CNY becoming a reserve currency. How can it ever be a reserve currency with capital controls in place i.e. how do you get your hands on the CNY – you simply can’t. The Bank of China has capital controls to prevent massive outflows that would cripple the country – it is NOT going to liberalize the CNY anytime soon. That’s why less than 4 percent of global trade is invoiced in CHY and far less actually paid for using it. It’s fantasy stuff for financial illiterates in ZH comments section.

Every single statement I’ve made has come true for the record – what happened to your prediction – shot down in flames ? Point out one factual error with a detailed explainer in what I’ve just written – but of course like Boris you don’t ever do detail, just childish cheap shots backed up by the square root of diddly squat – same as it ever was

The ghosts of snake Island.. To name but a few..

Russia has won, running the cheapest invasion ever seen.

Russia have EU over the barrel.

All your nonsense about breadlines and defaults..

            You’re a busted flush..

        2. stephen moran

If that’s Russia’s definition of winning I’d hate to see what losing means. Putin has set his country back a generation. Russia is dead in the water demographically and this disastrous miscalculation will only hasten the brain drain and its demise. Good riddance.

          .

          1. Me So Harney

            More nonsense..

Russia have won using junk artillery, and conscripts from caucuses..

Russia have the EU over their barrels..

Busted flush stepho never not gaslighting..

          2. Nigel

Junk artillery, conscripts from the Caucuses, and lame spin – even Putin’s asymmetrical warfare assets are misfiring. Corruption has cored the military the way it has the rest of Russian society.

          3. Nigel

‘Thanks to Democrat fuelled coup in 2014..’

Ukraine will only be free when it’s properly under Russian control and more like Belarus or Chechnya.

          4. Me So Harney

Your opinion, nothing to do with a Democrat fuelled coup of a democratically elected government in 2014..

          5. SOQ

Funny how we never see any speeches from the Ukrainian parliament these days eh?

Looks like there has been some spirited and lively debates there in the past.

Watch your man in the background- he doesn’t even finch- has that ‘they’re at it again’ sort of facial expression.

      1. SOQ

Oh there is bluff being called alright but it is by the Russians, not of them. The bluff being that money is more important than oil or gas- it is most definately not.

The Russian objective right now is not to immediately trade in Roubles, but to get a commitment to trade in Roubles, and the resistance is because once the precedent is set, there is no going back.

Putin is playing a long game and just like the US, is using Ukraine as a pawn. If the taps are shut off, it is because of a currency dispute not supply, and people will soon start asking why the EU leaders are so reluctant to use Roubles instead of US dollars.

Why would the European general public care either way? They don’t.

        1. stephen moran

Its a game of chicken that only one side can win – that’s why Russia blinked first on day one of the wholly impractical threat they made was due to kick in- its symptomatic of their failing invasion – an endemically corrupt country is having its deep fault lines exposed in public and being humiliated.

          .

          1. SOQ

To say the invasion is failing means you know the plans and schedule- do you? if not then you are applying a US template which is clearly not being applied.

The Russians have stated their objectives- removal of bio lads / Nazis and a commitment to Ukraine being independent of the two blocks.

There is close connections between the two countries on many levels, including their militaries, so a US style invasion was never on the cards.

They are currently surrounding Kiev and while the spin is they are stalling- it is IMO a ‘come to the table or we take it’ ultimatum.

Meanwhile Zelenskyy is bleating on about ‘green’ energy and Sean Penn threatens to smelt his Oscar in public if Zelenskyy is not invited to speak at the Oscars- yes really- absolute clown world.

          2. Nigel

Only one of those was stated as an ‘objective’ before the invasion, and isn’t really an objective so much as a transparently cynical effort to establish some sort of moral justification, the second got added restrospectively after an internet conspiracy took off. Putin could declare a ceasefire and try to force neutrality on Ukraine from a position of strength at peace talks any time he wants, and if Ukrainian security could be somehow guaranteed the Ukrainians might even agree. Meanwhile, didn’t Putin actually SAY he wants to reconstitute the old Soviet Union? That Ukrainians and Russians are really one people? So, sure, if you ignore that, it’s going completely great.

”people will soon start asking why the EU leaders are so reluctant to use Roubles instead of US dollars.”

This is pie in the sky stuff SOQ, there is zero appetite for a shift to Roubles, is there a more toxic currency (from a PR standpoint) in the western world right now? Europeans aren’t going to take to the streets demanding the Rouble, any suggestion of a switch would be met with disbelief, anger and protests.

          1. SOQ

Why should the average European care if it is paid in Roubles or US dollars? In what way is that going to affect their lives? It is not- they couldn’t care less which currency is used.

People will be on the streets for sure, but not for the reasons you predict- which is exactly why Macron is making such Russian friendly noises right now.

          2. Broadbag

”they couldn’t care less which currency is used.”

I disagree – Ukraine is such a ‘thing’ at the moment it just couldn’t and won’t happen that we allow the currency of the invader of Ukraine to be used.

          3. SOQ

I agree the propaganda is at max but propaganda doesn’t run cars or heat homes.

When push come to shove, it will be up to the EU leaders to justify why they are so wedded to the petrodollar- because it doesn’t make a blind bit of difference in the average Joe.

            Time will tell.

        1. stephen moran

There simply aren’t enough rubles to use – where exactly do you get these huge sum of rubles from – they don’t exist? Are the Bank of Russia going to create them and cause hyperinflation ? No one wants rubles – least of all the Russians or the Chinese – they are useless – just as no one wants INR or CNY either – CNY has 3rd world style capital controls. Russia have already walked back the idea in the same way they’ve walked back they’re Dickensian armed forces.

          .

      2. Dinkum

They have now stated that unfriendly countries will have to pay in roubles
I assume kicking out Russian diplomats ranks as friendliness Russia did say there would be consequences towards us over our expulsions.Anyway we could buy loads of roubles at a discounted price.
Maybe Sri Lanka might be a brand new customer for its oil and gas as apparently 13 hour power cuts there because they cannot access fuel as they have very little foreign currency reserves to buy it

It’s horrendous for them but this could be Europe if our politicians do not pull their fingers out and govern .

Eating one avocado a week helps cut the risk of heart disease by a fifth according to Harvard scientists.
Which is splendid news because at least once a week I mash up an avocado with some caramelized onion hummus and crispy bacon inside a toasted pitta bread and enjoy with a glass of fizz.
It’s been a guilty pleasure of mine for years but now it has got the thumbs up from the chaps in white coats it will now be guilt-free.
Always smoked bacon by the way.
    Have a nice day y’all.
    Marvellous™

Mittys Restaurant in Mittyworld opens early. Does he avocado? No – he parked it in a side street in Hounslow and it hasn’t been seen since. ROFL!

      1. TenPin Terry

I couldn’t give a monkey’s how much water an avocado takes to grow.
‘Cos you know it’s an avocado. And like all vegetables and fruit it requires water to become an avocado.
But I eat them weekly ever since I read they’re great for providing staying power in the boudoir.
Or it might have been you’re meant to shove them up your partner’s gincker and devour them with a teaspoon.
        The avocado that is.
Either way I just loves ’em with some hummus and bacon.
        Gives me the horn.

Great news from the CDC, and I am sure the euro poodles will follow suit; In the autumn you will be eligible for injection number 5 of some concoction they have not yet designed or tested.

Marvellous stuff Terry, which reminds me of something attributed to Albert Einstein.

Get free groceries when you get a COVID vaccine at Roseland Community Hospital

Molina Healthcare of Illinois and the Roseland Community Hospital are holding a vaccine clinic. The first 50 people who get a vaccine or booster shot also get a bag of food, with meats, veggies and pasta.

Belfast man who stabbed random women in ‘violent rampage’ jailed

    https://www.broadsheet.ie/2022/03/25/bringing-it-all-back-hume-2/#comment-2414932

“…McIlveen was arrested and claimed that whilst his memory of the attacks was not clear, he told police he had been on a date with a female on the day of October 12. He said that after this woman got up and left him sitting on his own in a bar, he felt humiliated – and this led to a decision to go and hurt women as he felt females were responsible for everything that had gone wrong in his life…”
