looks like Hazel Chu will continue her run in well paid pointless jobs where she won’t have to do much, and can go back to tweeting how we “all have to do much better” while not doing anything of any worth her pointless self.

can anyone tell me who it was that got abolition of the Seanad into the referendum of 2013?

Doherty, current leader of the Seanad, was campaign director of Fine Gael’s push to abolish the Seanad. Enda Kenny had floated the idea some years earlier (2009). Allegedly a group of Fine Gael advisors had come up with the abolition policy – the party’s ‘New Politics’ paper was put out by Phil Hogan in 2010:

            That is quite the volte-face!!
from ‘lets save the country 20 million a year’ to ‘put me on the payroll baby’.
Save me the Googling but was Doherty appointed to the Seanad by Enda Kenny?

Not really, the Taoiseach’s 11 were the subject of negotiation. Probably the most difficult part of the coalition negotiations.

The thing that is unbelievable that it’s not the public that elects these who represent us but the elite
It’s time senators were elected by the people to represent the people
Oh sugar I am sounding like a leftie

We did vote for some reform in a referendum in 1979 but the Dail haven’t got around to enacting the result yet.

    ABC – anyone but Chu.

The old generation of politicans were awful but she’s just as bad with her populist nonsense and ‘any trough will do’ approach, then screaming discrimination when she doesn’t get in, rather than face up to the fact that she’s a busted flush with zero substance behind her.

A graduate of Trinity who is an Irish citizen (this includes some DIT graduates – as they were conferred by TCD).

It’s a postal vote you can be living anywhere – assuming you keep a current address on the register.
