Seems the big newsworthy article is not there
The fact half those offers to house refugees seem to be withdrawn also many uncontactable when the Red Cross tried to contact them
I listened to the Labour Party stating that Brits are so far sadly lacking in accepting many poor souls fleeing the Russian boot stating Ireland are taking in up to 40 thousand by the end of may .
Seems it’s looking like the ukrainian refugees coming here will be residing in tented camps by the thousand ,and like the rest of our citizens who are homeless will be sharing the same fate
Mean while Mehole Leo and Simon are strutting the world dancing to the tune of the war drum

More disgusting pro-Nazi lies & propaganda from Ferg The Nazi. You Nazis never stop with the lies, do you?
“They were rest & recreation camps for Jews, Gypsies, Communists & Homosexuals”
“Those secret biolabs were just creating cures for biological WMDs”
“The Ukrainian Nazis are not Nazis”
It never ends from these people, all Nazis are fanatics, they can’t help themselves, constant propaganda & lies.

      1. Nigel

That’s odd. None of the three things you mention have ever appeared in any of Fearganim’s comments, not even by implication. Almost as if you’re a massive liar.

      1. Dinkum

Zelensky thinks the aznov battalion are not Nazis
He even broadcasted one of their foreign recruits from Greece to the Greek parliament and that was published a few days ago in the broadsheet headline hello mum
So yes there is no Nazis in Ukraine and I assume all those Cold War bio labs were converted into making AstraZeneca or Pfizer or even aspirins

        1. Daisy Chainsaw

Of course there’s nazis in Ukraine. There are nazis all over the world, even in Ireland.

          1. K. Cavan

Well, Nazis tend to socialise & spend time together, as their evil ideology turns the stomach of decent people, so you probably know them all, being a Nazi yourself, Dolly.

          2. SOQ

Yes all four of them in Ireland except, they don’t have their own NATO trained and funded regiment in the Army.

          3. Nigel

They might be hard up since the far-right funding Russian oligarch money has been cut off due to sanctions.

          4. Daisy Chainsaw

KKKCavan, such an angry little eunuch in your incel basement, hiding from people following you in case they stick you with another booster.

          5. Daisy Chainsaw

Poor NoMarky. Squelching around in the mire, looking for the validation of absolute chumps like SOQpuppet and KKKCavan. They’ll never love you as much as you love them, you know.

          6. Fearganainm

            @ Daisy Chainsaw

Evidently a few units of the Putin Borg have decided that today they’d swarm and scream ‘Nazi’ at certain posters. Probably because they’re having difficulty spinning the emerging details of Russian war crimes.

Howling ‘Nazi’ at people who have never once posted anything in support of Nazis only ‘works’ if they consider the entire population of Ukraine to be ‘Nazis’. Such a view is indicative of minds in the grip of a profound mental illness.

While Russian propaganda labelling the entire Ukrainian population as ‘Nazis’ is par for the course it’s pitiful to see Irish people regurgitating the same murderous line. However, not a few of the Putin Borg collective here are also racist bigots so perhaps it’s not really that surprising.

      2. K. Cavan

So, Dolly, you take it one step further, you’re not only a Nazi supporter, you cheer on the creation of biological WMD. You’re a genocidal Nazi. This war certainly has revealed the true colours of people who’ve been living among us, pretending to be normal humans, all the while harbouring Nazi sympathies & genocidal urges against their fellow-humans.
I always thought your politics were a bit authoritarian but I never really thought you were a Nazi but there it is, it’s undeniable, you’re a Nazi.
Dolly The Nazi, well, well, well.

        1. Fearganainm

You’re one of the team here cheering on the Donbas equivalent of the Sudetendeutsches Freikorps. It might be time you looked again at how you’re using historical analogies.

      3. K. Cavan

You want to protect Nazis & WMD labs, of course, Dolly. Because all Nazis are genocidal, like you.

    1. Dinkum

The war drum banging at a deafening volume
I assume joining NATO will take a referendum by their people .

        1. K. Cavan

That’s right Nigel, Putin woke up one morning & just decided to go Nazi-hunting in Ukraine for no reason whatsoever.
You Nazi scum never stop with the lies, excuses, distortion & propaganda, do you? It’s your fanaticism, that’s most striking. Nobody, it seems, is just sympathetic to Nazis, they’re inevitably fanatic Nazis, like you.
What made you into a Nazi, Nigel?

          1. Nigel

It’s nothing to do with Nazis. Putin loves Nazis, he funds and arms them to start civil wars in neighbouring countries. Your Nazi fetish and your coprophilia are going to collide one day, and I hope it happens far, far away.

          2. bisted

…so…Putin loves nazis…he funds them to start civil wars in other countries…who knew Putin and the Democrat mob had so much in common!

          3. bisted

…now Nigel…you are being coy…sure nobody could eclipse your boys (and girl) when it comes to regimes changed, bombs dropped, proxies formed, bad guys hung…

          4. bisted

…nah…just in your head Nigel…last time when sleepy Joe was vice-president…he only managed to bomb 8 countries…Putin was concentrating on making Russia great again…

          5. Nigel

Bombing Crimea, Georgia, Chechnya, helping Assad in
Syria, sending men money and arms to start the civil war in Ukraine…

          6. bisted

…oh dear Nigel…it’s back to revisionist school for you…Crimea asked to be returned to Russia and not a shot was fired…President Assad asked the Russians for help to defeat the US backed ISIS and prevent the US/zionist inspired regime change…missions accomplished…

    2. K. Cavan

Finland were like you Ferg. They chose which side to fight on during WW2, the Axis, the enemies of democracy. They were Nazis or at least Nazi supporters, like you, so they may very well join the evil warmongering scum in NATO.
Sweden won’t. They have a disturbing history of supporting Nazis, even the founder of Ikea was a member of a Nazi organisation, in his youth but they are, unlike you, Ferg, ashamed of this support for Nazism.

      1. Nigel

Russia started out on the side of the enemies of democracy, too, as a point of information. When they finished the war, they were the enemies of democracy.

      2. Fearganainm

And you’re an out and out racist with a mindset that actually is akin to a fascist, Nazi lout.

You can imagine how any ‘analysis’ coming from a creature like you goes down with the sane.

        1. E'Matty

Except you’re the one on here every day lauding actual Nazis. Tell us, who’s your favourite? Right Sector, Svoboda or the Azov Battalion?

          1. Fearganainm

Unsurprisingly you weigh in with a lie. I guess you can’t change the habit of a lifetime.

            I have lauded no Nazis.

I do support the right of the Ukrainian people to resist the illegal Russian invasion of their country. As should anyone with a shred of decency.

          2. Fearganainm

            Back again, wee squirt?

Off you go and find a single post of mine lauding Nazis.

When you can’t (because none exist), ask Bodger to ban you for lying and abusing other posters with fabricated allegations.

Russia’s genocide handbook – nowt to do with the Azov chaps apparently – it’s the whole kit and caboodle they have an issue with…..pity about them

    https://snyder.substack.com/p/russias-genocide-handbook?s=r&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=direct

“denazification” in official Russian usage just means the destruction of the Ukrainian state and nation. A “Nazi,” as the genocide manual explains, is simply a human being who self-identifies as Ukrainian. According to the handbook, the establishment of a Ukrainian state thirty years ago was the “nazification of Ukraine.” Indeed “any attempt to build such a state” has to be a “Nazi” act. Ukrainians are “Nazis” because they fail to accept “the necessity that the people support Russia.” Ukrainians should suffer for believing that they exist as a separate people; only this can lead to the “redemption of guilt.”

    1. hmmm

So why were the Ukrainians bombing Donbas for the last eight years?

      ‘Cos they’re not-Nazi?

        1. K. Cavan

I’ll take your word for it, Nigel, being a Nazi, you know how they think, how you think.
          Nigel The Nazi.

Your post went up at 11.34 which is 43.11 backwards…. Coincidence?

SOQ is QOS in reverse which is the acronym for Queen of South which features a Russian in season 5. I think this explains a lot.

Not only that, but the times listed indicate that you are scanning the comments of a website to stasi standards. *yawn*

          1. TenPin Terry

Realistically you have to ask yourself the question that if Putin is waging a propaganda war against the West over Ukraine would he really choose an Irish forum that specialises in charming pictures of dogs, inanimate objects that look like Ireland and demands for Frilly to release her infamous recipe for a creamed horn.
If you think he would you need to step away from the internet for a few hours…

          1. Vladimir Putin

Gonna keep the war going for a little while longer.

Thanks for all the support. Too many to mention but sure you know who you are.

The vaccines are bollocks and I read all your comments.

          Yup.
They were waiting with their ammo by their sides.

Some people might believe that crap.

          1. SOQ

That the Cypriots were less than happy with your Nazi friends making a speech in their parliament, so a mainstream newspaper done a bit of digging on Zelensky’s financial dealings in Cyprus.

Turns out the Russians aren’t the only ones in Cyrus, that the Zelensky lot are too. So by your lazy logic that now makes Alex Christoforou a US shill then surely?

        3. K. Cavan

The Nazi monsters running the US want The Great Reset to be supported by at least a portion of the population, those with Authoritarian sympathies, people like Nigel, who will, I guarantee, support it wholeheartedly so they need the impact of this war & the illegal sanctions to be catastrophic & everything they do & say is predicated on this Neo-Nazi Globalist plan. Propaganda & terror, spread through the mass media was invented by the Nazis, no surprise to see them continuing their use.
The media harbours some Nazis but mostly they’re just prostitutes.

        4. Fearganainm

How bizarre you are. A post featuring a courageous young Russian woman, protesting against the illegal attack on Ukraine and the rape and murder of Ukrainian women by Russian military forces you brand ‘anti-Russian’. If members of Russia’s military forces were not raping and killing Ukrainian women you might have a point, but they are, so you don’t.

Similarly, a post featuring a news item about Finland and Sweden exploring the possibility of joining NATO you also brand ‘anti-Russian’. Do sovereign, independent nations have no right to enter whatever alliances they like, in your view? Is their every political decision to be limited because Russia might object to it? What kind of democrat are you?

A third post, another news article carrying a statement from the President of Mexico, in which he said that Mexico does not accept the Russian invasion of Ukraine, you also label ‘anti-Russian’. What’s your problem? Are the people of the world not allowed to pass judgment on Russia’s illegal attack on Ukraine? Are you suggesting that all criticism should be stifled, like it is in Russia?

Or perhaps you were really objecting to the news article featuring a statement from Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, in which she offered as a justification for the illegal attack on Ukraine the claim that Ukrainians wouldn’t share their recipe/s for borscht? How is it ‘anti-Russian’ to provide details of what a Russian spokesperson has been saying? Surely it’s a good thing to let people know what senior Russian state personnel are thinking? To censor such views would be wrong, wouldn’t it? Even if they are insane.

You have a very strange conception of what constitutes ‘anti-Russian’.

    2. K. Cavan

Why do you constantly put out this pro-Nazi propaganda, stephen? You seem obsessed with praising Nazis, demanding that we support Nazis, that we send money & weapons to Nazis, for those Nazis to use to defend themselves & to kill innocent civilians by the thousand.
Clearly, only a rabid supporter of Nazis could mention them in almost every post about this war against Nazis. A rabid supporter of Nazis & their latest war couldn’t be anything other than a Nazi themselves, such sympathy towards Nazis could not exist in anyone who wasn’t a Nazi.
You are a Nazi, stephen & therefore a disgusting subhuman. You & the rest of the Nazi-supporting scumbags on here make me sick, you Nazi douchebag.

      1. Nigel

‘Clearly, only a rabid supporter of Nazis could mention them in almost every post about this war against Nazis’

In the most recent war crime, irony was just shot and dumped in a mass grave.

        1. Adolf Hitler

          Hi Mr. Cavan,

Stop using my word so much.

Those aren’t nazis. Read my book and watch my war.

Have to go, dinner with ghandi.

          auf wiedersehn!

Mexico says it does not accept Russian invasion of Ukraine

    https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/mexico-says-it-does-not-accept-russian-invasion-ukraine-2022-04-09/

MEXICO CITY, April 9 (Reuters) – Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Saturday that Mexico does not accept the Russian invasion of Ukraine in a video message released to coincide with a global event in support of Ukrainian victims of the conflict. “We do not accept Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, because we have suffered from invasions,” said Lopez Obrador, referencing the Spanish, French, and American invasions of the Latin American nation. “We are in favor of a peaceful solution to the conflict…”

    1. Kali

What’s with scouring the web for anything anti Russian and posting 10 links a day here? Seems unhinged

      1. Fearganainm

What’s ‘anti-Russian’ about a news article pertaining to an actual statement from the President of Mexico?

Do you regularly have problems dealing with reality?

    2. K. Cavan

Why ate you posting declarations from people who want a peaceful solution, Ferg, that’s diametrically opposed to your pro-Nazi, pro-war stance?
      You’re a very confused Nazi.

  4. john f

Whilst in and of itself. It’s an important story and shows the old boys club in operation, controversy generated by Holohan’s potential TCD appointment or secondment (or whatever BS the spin doctors make up) is a distraction away from an even bigger story. One that should be getting serious political and public scrutiny. That is the extension of NPHET (albeit under a different name).
This autocratic group was elected by anyone and is not really held accountable for their recommendations. The political system is far from perfect, but at least the public can hold them to account and get rid of them if they so please at the next election. With autocrats there is not a snowball’s chance in hell of that happening. Failures are hidden and covered up under layers of bureaucracy and bought and paid for “journalists and reporters”help distract the public away from the damning parts of the story.
Incrementally more and more political powers and decision-making is been siphoned away from publicly accountable politicians unelected and unaccountable quangos. On so many contentious issues the government hides behind “the EU commission’s laws, recommendations by some government chosen and appointed body, a citizens assembly that is designed to give a veneer of democracy, whilst being heavily loaded to deliver preselected recommendations et cetera et cetera

    1. Mad

      Good comment John
It’s good to get in some actual debate here before all the usual twats arrive. Oops too late I see Feargan’s been on the liquor again and Stephen’s off the wagon also

    2. K. Cavan

Democracy is old hat, john f, at least as far as The Globalists are concerned. Globalism is merely the latest iteration of an horrific, megalomaniacal tendency that has always existed within humanity.
      They are the Nazis, reborn.

    3. Duncan Wheeler

Good points well made john f. Our lot have been taking lessons from our masters in the EU. Democracy diluted until it’s no one in a position of real power is actually elected. Homeopathic democracy anyone?

    1. K. Cavan

I don’t think it’s possible for Civil Servants to be sacked, half of them would already be on the dole, if that was the case.

As I wake up this fine Sunday morning in Blighty to the sound of the village church bells summoning the parish to Anglican worship as they have for 300 years I wonder if Boris features in the prayers of many Ukranian’s today.
Box Office has been a Leviathan on the European stage since the war began – a fact recognised by the Ukrainian parliament Twitter account yesterday.
‘ Be brave, like Boris. Be brave, like Ukraine.’
Of course the Boris/Brexit/Blighty-hating brigade will never bring themselves to admit it.
Even though the Prime Minister pledged 120 armoured vehicles, new anti-ship and tank missile technology, and a further £385 million in World Bank lending on his visit to Ukraine.
Britain’s overall loan guarantee for Ukraine is now roughly three-quarters of a billion pounds.
The UK government will also permit tariff-free imports of Ukrainian goods to the UK, something requested by Volodymyr Zelensky.
The man the Sandalistas and oatmeal latte journalists have convinced themselves is a Russian asset is flooding Ukraine with weaponry to blow up Vladimir Putin’s tanks and help Zelensky humiliate him on the world stage.
Putin’s propaganda wing will try to seek revenge through their usual useful idiots in the western media and the conspiracy theory swamp.
‘ Be brave, like Boris.Be brave, like Ukraine ‘
    Marvellous™

    1. bisted

…remember brits, using wars to gain extra time for leaders gets you Thatcher and Blair…good luck Boris…Haw Haw…the comics ally…what could possibly go wrong?

      1. scottser

The tans are still washing Russian money to pay for the war though. Still, no harm to offer a quick ‘chin up’ to ukrainians as its good for business.

    2. TenPin Terry

Video from Boris’s Kyiv walkabout including grateful Ukranian’s shouting their approval.
      https://mobile.twitter.com/Liveuamap/status/1512858927419043840
The Prime Minister travelled to the capital by train for security reasons and his walkabout will have given his security team kittens.
But Boris knows what a huge psychological boost his presence will be for many Ukrainians.
‘ Be brave, like Mehole ‘ doesn’t really have the same ring to it does it ?

      1. ce

In fairness von der leyen was there the day before and traveled around more… and the Polish, the Czech and Slovene pms were there when the bombing was still going on…

I think the fact that many PMs or similar are going is a big boost for Ukraine… in more recent times as now that some PMs know that it isn’t a lost cause anymore…

Good time to be in weapons manufacturing… the sad reality is Ukraine must win…

    3. stephen moran

It’s hard to believe that a country with a banker as health secretary, an instragram influencer as foreign secretary, a philistine Nadir Dorries as culture secretary, a xenophobic bully as home sec and a charlatan grifter like Boris Johnson as PM, would also have a tax-dodging chancellor.

      1. K. Cavan

That’s extremely selective, stephen, you’d have to be a complete idiot to fail to understand why certain politicians get elected. They’ve mostly been chosen for their visceral hatred of humanity in general & their dedication to the aims of the Globo-Nazis of the New World Order. The rest is utterly irrelevant, it merely distracts mid-wits & lowbrows from defining their essence.
        It doesn’t matter.

          1. GiggidyGoo

Today’s prefix is ‘globo’. ‘Neo’ is so yesterday. I wonder what joys Nigel will bring tomorrow.

    4. K. Cavan

Boris, having been one of the first to blink, when he realised the fake vaccine was a bioweapon, is a lot happier killing citizens of other countries, than those of his own, so this time out, he’s toeing the Globalist Neo-Nazi line & plunging the citizens of the UK deeper into debt, debt that can never be repaid, to facilitate the efforts of Ukrainian Nazis who just want to be left alone to slaughter civilians with artillery.
The media will sing his praises, now, having abandoned their ludicrous attempt to have him removed, by order of their Globo-Nazi owners, by having a hysterical outburst over a glass of wine in his back garden.
What a bunch of pox-ridden whores the media are.

Refugees are choosing to return to war-torn Ukraine exhausted by the ‘hunger and homelessness’ inflicted by the long wait for UK visas

      https://www.businessinsider.com/refugees-exhausted-by-visa-misery-returning-to-war-torn-ukraine-2022-4?r=US&IR=T

“…Home Office figures show that of the 79,800 applications filed, 41,000 visas have been granted to Ukrainians fleeing the war. Of that number, 12,000 Ukrainians have arrived in the UK. Meanwhile, the neighboring Republic of Ireland, which has one-tenth of the population of the UK, has welcomed more than 20,000 people from Ukraine, according to Ireland’s taoiseach, Micheál Martin…”

A great week for Box Office Boris.
        Poor old Dishi Rishi…

          1. TenPin Terry

Well it’s a bit like Blighty’s generosity in loaning Ireland billions during the meltdown of the country’s economy when no-one lese would touch the Paddies with a barge pole and the ATMs were running dry.
Britannia’s largesse is legendary but everything comes with a price these days.
Only an Irish person thinks you get expensive stuff for nothing.
            ‘Twas ever thus.
Ukraine seems pretty happy with the deal though – hence the joy at Boris’s visit.
            He’s Box Office.

          2. SOQ

Yes and if you read that article you will see that Britain is also loaning Ukraine the money to buy the poo. No wonder Boris is happy to pop over for a photo shoot.

Apart from which the Brits themselves went bust in the 70/ S before squandering all the gains from Scottish North Sea oil and claiming that their recovery was due to Thatcherism. There’s a long recent history there of kleptocracy and delusion.

Hope your enjoying Dublin, some brain drain from the North, their loss our gain, huh.

        1. TenPin Terry

Boris spent 13.5 hours on a train from Rzeszow to Kyiv to avoid air attacks by Russian forces.
He used that time to make a short video for Ukrainian railway workers thanking them for their good work.
He really is a superb communicator – now Rishi Sunak has crashed and burned there really isn’t anyone with the same calibre who could replace Box Office if the Tories were mad enough to get rid of him.

Van der Layen is the worst kind of Globo-Nazi, one without an ounce of leadership ability & blinded to that fact by her own ego. It’s such a pity that Putin isn’t the cardboard cutout villain the Fake News Media try to portray him as, otherwise he could’ve rescued the EU from that idiot woman with a cruise missile.
Oh, the warmongers are out in force, on another of their missions to plunge the West into disaster after disaster, until the remnants of the European people finally sign their own death warrant called The Great Reset, their lives under these evil psychopaths having become unbearable.

    2. SOQ

Boris is running with hare chasing with the hounds- I very much doubt if there has even been a British prime minister so compromised by Russian intelligence before.

If he’s compromised by Russian intelligence why aren’t they releasing the evidence as Boris steps up military and financial aid to Ukraine ?
Take your time and while you’re struggling to stand up another one of your batpoo crazy conspiracy theories regale us with that cracker about Mehole travelling to DC for the Paddy’s Day meet and greet but pretending he’d got COVID in case Putin decided to bomb Dublin in retaliation.
        A doozy for the ages.

          1. TenPin Terry

You still haven’t answered my question Queenie.
If the KGB have Kompromat against Boris why aren’t they using it when he’s the cheerleader for Western action against Vlad and a hero in Ukraine ?
A bit like Trump’s golden showers that never actually happened.
Or the Russian collusion in the POTUS election campaign that Mueller spent $35 million and 18 months trying to find but couldn’t.

And the state of Johnson listening intently to a Ukrainian, in the Ukrainians own language, and not being able to communicate with him. What a plonker you are Charger. Mittyworld at its most dangerous.

I never really liked the cut of Imran Khan’s jib. He was always very arrogant and a little bit cheaty when he was Pakistan cricket captain.
Now that basketcase of a country has ditched him as Prime Minister.
An utter hypocrite of course as a lot of these Islamic fundamentalists are – liked putting it about amongst the toff ladies on the London social scene but insisted on women being treated as second class citizens when he went back home to the flies and open sewers.
Time for a spell down in the Second XI methinks and more time in the nets.

    1. Mad

I’d say it was just more like the mindless little Englander racist attitude that your types didn’t care much for a foreign-looking brown lad siring one of your Class A fillies.
Even tends the other way now if Harry Windsor is to be believed. Ditto for Dodi Al Fayed, may God rest his soul.

      1. K. Cavan

That might’ve been the case, decades ago, when the native British actually had power in, even control over their own country but those days are long gone. They are virtual prisoners now, second class citizens in their own country which has become an apartheid state, where the mass rape of thousands of their “fillies” by ethnic Pakistani Muslims is ignored by the State & the natuves are very much the untermenschen. Catch up, Mad, it’s 2022 not 1985.

        1. Mad

          You’re a pathetic, vile, ignorant idiot K.
Just so we are clear. Please crawl back up your mother’s spout though I don’t doubt for a moment she has long disowned you.

    2. K. Cavan

What a mish-mash of idiotic takes, utterly misinformed nonsense & junk you just made up, TPT. Your brain must be hugely damaged to come up with this. Pakistan is merely another, in a long line of countries, to be subject to the USA’s Regime Change policy. The only countries who don’t have to endure having their democracy subverted in this way are already under the control of the CIA.
You need to put down your device & seek medical assistance, immediately.

The endemically corrupt and king pins of nepotism, the ANC have been in power for 30 years and South Africa ranks as the most unequal country in the world – it’s even worse than Russia on the Gini coefficient which really tells you all you need to know – they have some brass neck criticizing anyone about anything – they should fcuk right off and sort out your own shltshow.

    3. K. Cavan

I don’t think the Irish have woken up to the slow stranglehold the New World Order are exerting on them, even those that sense that something’s not quite right cannot bring themselves to face their own, carefully planned & inevitable erasure. To be made a second class citizen in your own country & remain blissfully unaware is what Darwin would classify as a fatal evolutionary disadvantage, leading to inevitable natural deselection.
The weak shall perish, that’s Evolution in action.

      1. jonjoker

Macron will win because they wheel out Le Pen and tell the populace “Look at what you get if you don’t vote for Maccron”.

It’s sick, and put an end to the Socialist Party in France, because they end collaborating in putting the (ordinary) right wing in power.

Putin’s former chief economic adviser says Russia would likely halt the Ukraine war ‘within a month or two’ if the West slapped a full embargo on Russian oil and gas

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/putins-former-chief-economic-adviser-113245578.html

“Vladimir Putin’s former chief economic adviser has suggested that Russia would halt military operations in Ukraine “within a month or two” if Western countries stopped buying Russian oil and gas. In an interview with the BBC’s Talking Business program, published Sunday, Andrei Illarionov, who advised Putin between 2000 and 2005, said the president was likely reassured by a continuing steady flow of energy export revenue, which was allowing him to continue the war.

Illarionov said that if Western countries implemented “a real embargo on oil and gas exports from Russia,” then “within a month or two, Russian military operations in Ukraine probably will be ceased.” He added: “It’s one of the very effective instruments still in the possession of the Western countries.” Russia’s economy is forecast to shrink by as much as 15% this year after Western nations imposed sweeping sanctions and companies pulled out of the country in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine. Illarionov predicted Russia would be spared complete economic devastation thanks to its strength with exports – particularly energy exports…”

Or he could wait through the Summer & Fall, until the continental European Winter arrives & people start dying in their thousands, eventually millions, from hypothermia, combined with the food shortages. Obviously, this wouldn’t concern Europe’s political leaders, they’d welcome it, if they think they can get away with it.
It’s clear that Putin’s former adviser still retains some loyalty to his boss & is doing his bidding here, only an idiot would fail to see through this ruse.

NATO plans permanent military presence at border, says Stoltenberg – The Telegraph

NATO was “in the midst of a very fundamental transformation” that will reflect “the long-term consequences” of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions, Stoltenberg said in an interview with the newspaper. “What we see now is a new reality, a new normal for European security. Therefore, we have now asked our military commanders to provide options for what we call a reset, a longer-term adaptation of NATO,” it cited Stoltenberg as saying…”

I had a lovely weekend, away from the murky pages here. Not that anyone is especially interested or anything but I thought it would be a novel change to report on something nice.

Friday evening, I went to a cooking class and learned how to make homemade pasta properly and ricotta gnocchi too. It was very enjoyable, as was the wine sampling at the end.

Yesterday, we went planted trees for a local orchard as part of a sustainability scheme. There’s talk of a community garden too, which is lovely. After that we had a little picnic lunch.

Today, I took the kiddos for a longish walk. We stopped at a playground on the way back and played in the rain and then had tea to warm up. We’ve just had dinner of lamb shanks and roasties, and it was delicious.

Hope everyone else had a pleasant weekend. Anyone else do anything of note? Or not of note? Just something nice?

    1. Tarfton Clax

Sounds lovely. Good for you. Went to local park with wife and sister in law with the kids myself. Minding my Brother’s dog this weekend. Cooked up a nice Spag Boll earlier and now about to watch some StarTrek with Mrs Clax and have a crisp German Pilsner. Or two.

      1. The Millie Obnoxious™

That is a lovely way to finish up the weekend. We’ve no park near us anymore, which is a pity, but it’s kind of made us a bit more proactive about making sure we do something nice at the weekends.

Cheers to you and Mrs C :)

    2. Fearganainm

Delighted that you had a good one, Millie, be sure to do something similar again and again.

Do you even know what a ‘false compliment’ actually is?

I think that Millie is well able to understand a comment wishing her well, don’t you?

          1. benblack

Nah, think I need a lecture on the theory of ‘false compliment’.

            Perhaps Erasmus would know?

Truckers threaten to bring Dublin to its knees for a WEEK with protest for ‘history books

Irish truckers have vowed to bring Dublin city to its knees for an entire WEEK as they protest over rising fuel prices.

The Irish Truckers and Haulage Association has said the capital faces a ‘complete lockdown’ during next Monday’s protest.

The drivers say they are in the for the long haul until the Government does something to ease rocketing fuel prices.

    https://extra.ie/2022/04/08/news/irish-truckers-threaten-protest

So expect long dealys around Dublin tomorrow and probably for the rest of the week.

    1. Daisy Chainsaw

I think people are mixing them up with the Irish Road Haulage Association who are a legitimate organisation. Funnily enough, this group seems to have the same rubbish “graphic designer” as the usual antivaxx, antimandate, antilockdown dregs who’ve been agitating the last few years.

Be interesting to see how many actually show up.

      1. Fearganainm

Carey is promoting it so that gives you an idea of the groupuscule that’s hurriedly invented a title for their ‘organisation’. They had a different name last November but it’s the same crowd.

Interesting to see there was a discussion on Australia’s long-running “Sunday Footy Show”:by the presenter and panel about potential injuries from the Covid shots. Surprised it even aired. There’s the usual disclaimers in the above article that heart inflammation is “rare” and even if you end up in hospital you’ll probably be out in a few days so no worries ..hmm ye reckon?

‘ “Is there a lot of this going on in world sport at the moment, Damo? A lot of athletes have got these issues?”

“Are you referring to the booster shots and the contracting of Covid?” Barrett said.

Brown replied, “I was referring to the booster shots, that’s obviously the word going around.”

..“Without delving into your private affairs, you’ve got Bell’s palsy at the moment, which hopefully you’re on the back end of that, but there’s a bit of that going around as well,” Jones said.

“Exactly, heart issues and Bell’s palsy has gone through the roof since the boosters and Covid issues,” Lloyd said.

“We had (sports journalist) Michelangelo Rucci on (3AW) on Friday night and he said that there‘s a ward filled with people with similar symptoms to Ollie Wines – nausea, heart issues – so there has to be something more to it.

Jones then stressed that “we’re not anti-vaxxers”.

“We’ve all done our due diligence with our booster shots and all that sort of stuff, but there is going to have to be some study done on this, not just in a sporting sphere but like a community,” he said.’
