I take no pleasure in flagging this but post vaccination autoimmune hepatitis appears to be now a thing. The reason why it is presenting in unvaccinated young children is still unknown- but there is no data as to if their parents were vaccinated as yet.
This is addition to the reactivation of hepatitis C of course.
The core problem here is that if there is specific auto immune disorders emerging, it may take quite a long time to identify the conditions which may manifest.

The basic definition of money is that it is a medium of exchange i.e. you can use it to buy and sell things – you can’t use the RUB,CNY or BRL to buy and sell things outside of their domestic economies – You can’t get BRL wired to you from Rio and pop down the local AIB and change it into €. There are a myriad of other reason such as capital controls i.e. you are sitting in an of those countries you CANNOT simply transfer 1 million BRL or CNY to another country – it’s illegal. Also there is not liquidity in those currencies i.e. you CANNOT call up JP Morgan’s / Goldman Sach’s FX desk in London and ask for a price in $/BRL in $100mm. Even currencies like the South Korean won have to settle loccaly not offshore i.e. the currency is non deliverable. The reason for this is all those countries wish to be able to control their own monetary policy i.e. where they set interest rates – if they had to worry about a real floating exchange rate then they would have to set interest rates at levels that would often contradict what their own domestic economies require. They would lose control. That’s why the number of currencies that are actually “floating” (i.e. their value is actually set by the market is tiny. Most countries have a peg (the the dollar – which works until they have to devalue because their inflation rate causes their exports to become uncompetitive) or the have a “managed float” i.e they try to keep it within a band (_or + 10-15percent of a central rate) against a basket of other countries who are their largest trading partners (that’s what China, South Korea, Brazil etc etc do). Lastly and maybe MOST importantly their are NO developed derivative markets in any of those currencies i.e. you cannot hedge them at all and given they are much more volatile than the dollar why would you risk using them given a choice

If you are in San Paolo and want to buy goods from China the ONLY was yo do it is to exchange your BRL for dollars as the BRL is non convertible and vice versa as the CNY is also non convertible. Both countries also have capital controls. BRICS is a silly acronym dreamt up by Man Utd fan Jim O’Neill when he worked for the for The Great Vampire Squid 22 years ago to try and flog equities to people too easily parted with their money. Those countries had nothing in common then and even less now.. The $ may be the root of all evil but it remains the base for all financial transactions. The Saudi Arabian Riyal is pegged to the $ btw (and for very good reasons).The Yen is dropping like as stone and the CNY is weakening at the fastest pace since they last devalued in 2015 as the domestic Chinese economy continues to implode (prospective reserve currencies DON”T devalue in my textbook).. The monetary policy of all BRICs economies is dovish they are totally out of synch with that of the US hawkish rate hikes.

Genuine question- what impact is all of this new trading in other currencies going to have on the US dollar? I ask because I don’t really understand what advantage the US has by the dollar being the global currency.

All stephens “forecasts” have been spectacularly mistaken. The latest offering is more of the same.
The basic definition of money is that it is a medium of exchange i.e. you can use it to buy and sell things – you can’t use the RUB,CNY or BRL to buy and sell things outside of their domestic economies – You can’t get BRL wired to you from Rio and pop down the local AIB and change it into €. There are a myriad of other reason such as capital controls i.e. you are sitting in an of those countries you CANNOT simply transfer 1 million BRL or CNY to another country – it’s illegal. Also there is not liquidity in those currencies i.e. you CANNOT call up JP Morgan’s / Goldman Sach’s FX desk in London and ask for a price in $/BRL in $100mm. Even currencies like the South Korean won have to settle loccaly not offshore i.e. the currency is non deliverable. The reason for this is all those countries wish to be able to control their own monetary policy i.e. where they set interest rates – if they had to worry about a real floating exchange rate then they would have to set interest rates at levels that would often contradict what their own domestic economies require. They would lose control. That’s why the number of currencies that are actually “floating” (i.e. their value is actually set by the market is tiny. Most countries have a peg (the the dollar – which works until they have to devalue because their inflation rate causes their exports to become uncompetitive) or the have a “managed float” i.e they try to keep it within a band (_or + 10-15percent of a central rate) against a basket of other countries who are their largest trading partners (that’s what China, South Korea, Brazil etc etc do). Lastly and maybe MOST importantly their are NO developed derivative markets in any of those currencies i.e. you cannot hedge them at all and given they are much more volatile than the dollar why would you risk using them given a choice
