€300,000 a year is a lot of money.

RTE is supposed to be a public service broadcaster. Is it really the best use of its resources to poach stars from the private sector?

Surely it would make more sense for public service radio and television to provide the stuff the market won’t and give a voice to those who wouldn’t normally get on commercial radio.

Fair point but much of the commercial stuff subsidises other content.

Also, they need to have popular/populist shows as well as more worthy, less commercial content. Else they will quickly be labelled elitist and risk losing licence fee. They need to get buy-in from a reasonably large section of the public,

Apparently he’s leaving with immediate effect. So no goodbye to his audience. I listened to Friday’s episode. What a crappy way to go

I understand, but their primary role is not to chase ratings.

Hiring D’Arcy (back) on huge money is a blatant attempt to do just that,

Ah the Irish Medja just love to write about one of their own….

Today’s headline story, ‘MAN LEAVES JOB, AND GETS ANOTHER ONE!’

      Frankly, who gives a s**t?

    Good for you Praetorian .
I’m currently painting someone else’s house, hoping they;’ll allow me to watch the paint dry from a distance.
    Everybody likes Purple, don’t they?

Don’t do it. I painted a room super-ultra-violet (a deep purple, really deep).

As soon as I finished, and set the all the furniture in, and the bed in place, and the room hoovered and presentable… I said “right, what colour will I paint it now to get rid of this gick”. It was hideous :)

I listen to Ray but have found myself shouting at the radio lots at his strong opinions. Anyone who disagrees is always wrong….the RTE1 afternoon slot might be a better demographic. Good luck with the new job. It’s a shame all the same
