Oh.
A convoy of cabs in the Phoenix Park, Dublin heading fora city centre protest this afternoon .
The demonstration is in response to proposed changes to fare structures that will see fares rise by an average of 4%.
The National Transport Authority will also change the number of pricing bands and drivers say “the cost of re-calibrating and re-sealing their meters – up to €250 – is not worth the increase in fares”.
As they’ll tell you yourself if you ask them.

4% of €6250 is €250.
The cost of the new meter is “up to €250”.
Are taxi drivers claiming their existing annual income is less than €6,250?
Another group of chancers with a sense of entitlement trying to deceive the public into giving them sympathy, They can FRO.
My thoughts exactly. That and it absolutely does not cost 250 to recallibrate a meter, it’s a simple software update.
If you want to make more money, change job – just like the rest of us!
First prize for dumbest comment of the year. are you by any chance an infant?
“the cost of re-calibrating and re-sealing their meters – up to €250 – is not worth the increase in fares”
It’s pretty self explanatory. Unless they are only earning €6250 per year, then the cost of updating the meter blatantly IS worth their while.
This, exactly this.
i hear theyre taxing racism next, expect another one of these…
seriously tho, fair play to them they work very hard and have had their taxi plates devalued massively. alot of taxi drivers have had to delay their retirement because of it.
Taxi Plates were a cartel that operated when taxis were unregulated. They changed hands at €45,000 before regulation, and long may they forgotten about
@Jimmy The only reason their plates were devalued so massively was that the cost of a plate was so massively inflated in the first place. Which, of course, was because a taxi licence was akin to a licence to print money in the pre-deregulation days. For several decades the public had to put up with the worst taxi service in Europe, while the taxi drivers sought aggressively to protect their repugnant cartel. They deserve absolute zero sympathy.
If they taxed racist drivers the money would be abundant!
Isn’t racism when you tar all people in a group with the one brush – just like you are doing with your idiotic comments.
No, that’s not what Racism is. That’s stereotyping, which I’m sure JunkFace would freely admit to.
Surprising lack of sympathy for taxi drivers considering that they DON’T want a fare increase.
That’s because they are complaining the increase is not enough!!!
Ah. I really should’ve read a bit more! I’ve had a few taxi drivers complaining about the increase lately so presumed all the guys above felt the same way.
They want an increase. They just want it to be bigger than 4%.
No mention of the 15-20% decrease in their primary running cost (Diesel) in the past 12 months.
+118.8
I got into a taxi over christmas and within 30 seconds, the rear bumper fell off.
True story.
FFS, lose some weight then!
Some nice free bike lanes there
“They warn that some journeys will be losing money.”
Can someone explain this? How will a once off payment of at most €250 and an increase in fares mean that some journeys will lose them money?
Because taxi drivers
3 certainties in life, death, taxes, and taxi drivers complaining.
I can’t think of any other profession where you’d get workers moaning at their customers about how bad the job and you, the customer, are.
Coz – Inflation and rising fuel costs like?
2014, there was 0.3% negative inflation overall for the 12 months to the end of December. And these feckers are getting all snotty about a 4% increase.
0.3% countrywide deflation and an approx 20% decrease in their main running cost (diesel) in 2014?
A 4% increase seems a bit unnecessary, no? Nevermind a bigger one like they’re requesting.
Taxi service should be nationalised.
No sympathy for these greedy, grasping unimaginative, low brow knuckle draggers.
Last time i got a cab in dublin, it stank of fags, the driver stank of bo and fags and boasted of heading round the back of “de burlo” later to check out the “ladies”
I’d sooner walk.
Did you know that lots of different types of people are Taxi drivers and most are just hard working people who have to put up with a lot of risk and abuse in their jobs. People who think they are upper middle class seem to give out a lot about taxi drivers because it is they only time they actually have to interact with people they consider below them.
Yes, Yes i did know that, and I’ll have you know i’m working class not that its anyones business, I however, was taught the basics of hygiene…
So, I still dont have time for grasping smelly perverts in clapped out nissan primeras (yes, plural, wasnt the first time i had the misfortune of using these cretins “services”)
I could go off on one at you about champagne socialists, but, frankly I cant be @rsed.
Like i say, i’d sooner walk.
I got charged €1 for having a bag with me.
It wasn’t even in the boot, just sitting between my legs.
Bing on uber for some competition, it’s a monopoly right now.
Ta xi drivers are, literally, the biggest bunch of ball bags going!
Is it all taxi drivers you hate or just the black ones.
