[Yesterday] we handed in a petition of over 1,200 signatures to the Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald to call on her to end the direct provision system for the 4,309 asylum seekers in Ireland.
We are supporting the scheme to clear the backlog of those lives stuck in direct provision, and for the Irish government to live up to its responsibility to protect the most basic rights of everyone living on this island.

When will we start being kind to each other?
the petition had substantially less signatures than the numbers in direct provision. This “cause” does not have popular support. 1200 signatures – pretty embarrassing!
ah the poor asylum seekers getting decent accommodation, food, clothing and pocket money. if you don’t like it we will send you back to your home country free of charge.
the law is just a minor inconvenience to you, isn’t it?
the law? you lost me.
We’re still broke. Can’t even afford to house our own citizens never mind those unfortunates seeking refuge. When is somebody going to stand up and say it? We tried, we failed, perhaps it’s now time to repatriate them?
Maybe those fortunate enough to get through the process and be granted asylum could provide assistance to their fellow citizens stuck in direct provision.
Eamonn, ollie – They (most of them anyway) don’t want handouts, and for the most part would not be a drain on resources if they were allowed to work and function as normal residents of the country.
All they ‘re looking for is the chance to live normal lives.
But they can’t work until their asylum application is processed. so its direct provision or leave.
What about the Government protecting the rights and culture
the indigenous Irish…a limit has to be put on those of not
of Irish or European Nationality being allowed to stay and
subsequently given Irish Citizenship.
What other Country has mass migration of its own citizens and
has a free for all for the rest of the world who want to come and stay
The other members of the European Union are tightening up
their controls and we need to do so too, indeed some states
in the EU have controlled the right to work of citizens of other
states for years after their accession into the EU.
