Outside Tallaght Garda station this morning.
Tallaght Says No writes:
Just had it confirmed that the young lad, who has just turned 16 a week ago, had approx 10 garda at his house arriving in 3 cars – they heavily banged on the door and made their way into the house, went up stairs as he got dressed and took him out.

The Gardai are a corrupt bunch.. Still waiting for those who caused the crash to be arrested.
You don’t understand law and legality do you ?
no need for the smart-arsery
If Rep thinks that the Gardaí should go around arresting people in order to appeal to a populist sentiment, maybe there is…
sorry rob was replying to Misters comment
And you obviously didn’t understand Robs comment either.
WOW JUST WOW GUYS WOW
protest and get arrested. evade tax in offshore accounts and reach a confidential settlement with revenue.
What an absurd, irrelevant and dim-witted commentary.
Did the lads grass ’em out?
Paul Murphy cried. That’s why his detention was extended by 6 hours, gardai couldn’t get a thing out of him for all the blubbering.
Or so I like to believe.
LOL – he did in his hole.
Brave anonymous internet talk there, hero.
Jimmy, you’re taking this all very personal, did you cry for Paul when he was arrested ?
Why would I? this arrest has guaranteed his status as a “political revolutionary”… something his campaign manager couldnt have wished for in his wildest dreams :-)
No it hasn’t Jimmy – stop wetting the bed.
He will get some column inches this week and next week we’ll be talking about the rugby or some other such equally absolutely earth-shattering topic of major importance
cant afford to wet the bed mate, moisture doesnt grow on trees you know
Paul Murphy is my favorite private educated middle class salt of the earth man of the people socialist at the moment.
I don’t get why someone can’t be middle-class, private educated and also a socialist?
The self-indulgent troping that goes with political discourse in Ireland is wearing – from a bunch of class-obsessed only recently emerged hovel-dwellers for the most part.
People who are poor are too busy getting by and scraping a fupping living to have the time or luxury to immerse themselves in elitist, power-trolling activities like being politicians.
Well said Joe, I find it hopelessly depressing the amount of comments I’ve read about “Champagne Socialist” etc
I don’t see why somebody who had a decent upbringing can’t have some empathy with people not as well off??
I really am baffled
I did say he was my favorite ! Much better than Boyd Barrett
I’m not sure. Some of those Greens really give them a good run for their money.
Yeah those Lower Caste peoples haven’t time to fight for themselves so in rides an idealistic wanker to save the great unwashed! Spare me! Tony Gregory he is not!
Tony Benn ahem….
And meself I suppose
Although I prefer to consider meself as just pure class rather than any other kind
So kill The Poor
stop talking thru your hole
Great work by the Gardai. Hopefully there’ll be some arrests.
(((Golf Clap)))
Vicious dangerous criminals, caught at last. I was losing alot of sleep worrying about these scary protesters being free on the streets. Unfortunately its too late for poor Joan who had to sit in a warm car for a prolonged period of time several months ago.
THESE ARE SCARY WORRYING TIMES FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE TERRIFIED OF WATER BALLOONS
They are indeed-Globophobia is a scourge that haunts modern society! Burst the balloon!
I was falsely imprisoned in my car for several hours when One Direction played the Point. Arrest them.
Careful now, I hear they all caught chlamydia from a slutty koala…
http://metro.co.uk/2012/04/21/one-direction-in-chlamydia-scare-after-handling-koalas-down-under-397499/
Karma Koala,
Jamaica’ aroma
If every protested the way they protested on every issue that they felt strongly about then the country would come to a standstill. I hate the political elite as much as the next guy but there are norms that need to be recognised and the water protesters are ignoring them and ignoring the law.
I saw a protester in Greece throw a petrol bomb at a riot policemans head. Lucky he was wearing a helmet but seems to have done the trick no?
No, throwing a pterol bomb at police didn’t do any trick. What did the trick (assuming the trick you are referring to is a deal on Greek debt) was electing a different government.
Petrol bombs – 0
Political process – 1
The irony of saying that in reference to the country that founded politics…
You don’t seem to understand irony.
The political process working in the country that founded politics is not irony.
Things that JimmytheHead doesn’t understand:
– democracy
– online comments
– irony
LOL.
Things Rob doesnt like:
1) Sarcasm
3)Inconsistency
x) Bad lists
Wow Jimmy, wow. Throwing a petrol bomb at a police mans head works, just wow.
I realise your name is somewhat tongue and cheek, as you quite obviously don’t have a head, and if you do, it’s sans brain.
Wow, just wow. Wow
Noo
With a petrol bomb t’the head it’s
Ow Ow Ooooowwwwwww
Seems fair enough. A complaint was made. It had to be investigated. Paul Murphy refused to be questioned. He had to be arrested.
That’s a lie. He was never asked to come to a station. The Gardaí never requested that he come down to his local station to answer questions neither did they contact him. Instead they came knocking to his home yesterday morning, and arrested him
Alison
Helpful hint: The Oirish Daily Mail is not a newspaper.
“Paul Murphy refused to be questioned”
Whoa there now, this ain’t TheJournal… we like sources round these parts for that kinda thing. Especially when it flies in the face of all of yesterdays news reports on it.
Face facts the “protesters” at that particular event were complete and utter scumbags. Paul Murphy was instigating the whole thing. I totally agree with protesting, but these particular people are morons.
unfortunately, you failed to state even one fact in your entire thesis.
So you must have not seen the video of Paul Murphy leading and instigating the detention. So that’s a FACT.
‘instigating the detention’? if it’s so clear cut from a video you’ve seen, why didn’t the gardai arrest him at the time? he was in full view of the gardai, witnesses etc.
Yes. He’s clearly seen and heard on his mega phone conducting things and asking if they should or agree to let her go. If you haven’t seen that video then your choosing to ignore it.
And if you had listened to the interviews you’d have some context in which to place his question to the assembled protesters. He was acting on behalf of the Gardai – they *asked* him to put the question to those sitting on the ground in a sinister posture.
Anonymous gossip, very brave of you to come forward with such vital information.
Gossip? I really have no idea what your talking about.
Oh sorry, so you were at the protest and know every single protester enough to be able to make such a remark?
Of course i don’t know them all. But when Paul Murphy is your poster boy it speaks volumes. Paul Murphy a man who ran in my area and had his office in Thomas Street, didn’t get near being elected so moves off to a different patch to chance his arm.
Funny how you think Im a Paul Murphy supporter just because I commented on this. Never even voted for the guy, but personally speaking I think getting him arrested for being at a protest is a great way to highlight the hypocrisy and elitism which is rife among your FG/FF/Labour sugar daddys.
To give you some clarity:
http://youtu.be/YA7oT0TPavc
iv never voted ff. I have voted fg. But I’d love a sugar daddy from either.
Yes thats very apparent from “your” opinions posted
Who wouldn’t want a sugar daddy, as you put it, iv no problem voting for Fg. I won’t be doing it again. But at the time that was the choice I made.
Broadsheet seems to be picking up strays from TheMail this morning.
I actually don’t know what the Mail is. An Internet site? A blog? A paper? Enlightened me please.
Its either them Clampers or thejournal.ie crashed sometime this morning…Anomanoman what you seek shall be found on boards.ie my good man
:)
Seriously…..Boards.ie is still a thing!
They need to change the message from “We won’t pay” to
“Out Out Out”
The dysfunction of this Government is now being mirrored by the anti this that and t’others
Sing one tune
“Out Out Out”
The guards have long lost their mandate and they dont whatsoever represent me.
Ha ha, what mandate? Did you elect the gardai ?
Dont cheer too hard, you might drop a pom-pom
It’s ok Mister Mister. It’s long been clear where you stand in all of this. The country & the way it’s run is up the sh1tter, but you think it’s fine because like you’re so in touch with things just like your hero Enda, and the soon to be no more Labour party, and you frown upon the right of the common man to protest about anything.
There you go, Irelands very own version of Godwins law.
In any internet debate, and I use the word debate very loosely, someone always will accuse you of being a member of government, Irish Water, Denis O’Briens love child, and other such nonsense.
“Denis O’Briens love child”
Ah here, let’s just keep things sanitary or at least somewhat realistic.
By the way, the country is not up the shitter. It might be cool to say so, but we’re not in that bad a shape all things considered.
Unless you are in the 21%+ of the countries lowest page classified by the OECD as in a ‘subsistence living’ standard… ie borderline poverty.
Why don’t you ring Joan up and tell her there’s a new soup kitchen up, she likes a good photo opportunity, that fool.
Yep, ballsy FG\Labrapoodle got us a great debt write down and we have cleared it. Things can only get boomier!
Stop feeding the troll!
Ah Jimmy, just because I pulled you on your Godwins Law, you didn’t have to change your insults just for me.
Oh cool are we just making up stuff now?
… because I totally “pulled you” with the dolphin banana sandwich breakdance law est. 1984 in the case of Robot Dinosaur VS the cast of Friends.
‘page? …. I meant paid.
Ooops.
The scariest thing about all this is the complete lack of understanding that people have on how our criminal justice system actually works. Foundation course in Civics required urgently.
Shurrup Denis O’Briens lackey.
(I was just posting here, so I thought I’d save the guys a bit of time in doing it themselves)
@Jackdaw
While I wouldn’t claim any particular expertise, I certainly was very much awake in civic studies. Unfortunately, the reality I see before me in both the policing and administration of justice in this little country bears little or no resemblance to the text books.
:) ok its ask d’internet time….
anyone know the fate of Jeep Grand Cherokee hit and run driver?
also the fabled brick throwing garda?
off topic i know but does anyone know what happened to the driver of jeep that crashed into the protestors on Butt bridge? was there any follow up from Gardai?
Former FF councillor, plotted to murder a garda detective, a Revenue Commissioner and an accountant, a court has been told. Gerard O’Flynn of Cork pleaded guilty to soliciting another person to commit the murders.
Was asked, by appointment, to come to the Garda station to be arrested.
Current councillor, dragged from his bed at 7am for blocking a woman in her car for 2 hours.
The Gardai, a great bunch of lads.
People protest about stuff all the time. The large water protest before Christmas did force a u-turn in how the water charges would be applied and dropped the requirements for PPS no.s etc
So it was successful to an extent of bringing clarity to charges, no privatization etc of water. For many people, they are reasonably content (probably not the best word but give all that has happened) with the outcome. No violence, no intimidation and a large degree of success.
Murphy is using this to his own political ends. He is continuing the tired tactic of creating a wedge issue to start his little revolution. Remember his scam bridge site? http://www.scambridge.ie/
It has a whole 1,157 signatures in the petition. The “Share your story” lists 136 but most of these are internet spam for sports events.
Its been abandoned as a campaign. It didn’t work, he’s now using water. Just as other groups such as PBP have stopped using the property tax or bins as their wedge issue. They’ve lost those campaigns so they too move into water.
No doubt they’ll move onto some thing else if that fails. Anything rather than come up with detailed, real solutions.
what do you mean by “no privatization etc of water”? how have you come to that conclusion?
Section 2 Plebiscite on ownership of Irish Water of the Water Services Act 2014
http://www.environ.ie/en/Legislation/Environment/Water/FileDownLoad,39931,en.pdf
Is that in place and legal yet….. or is it just proposed. Thanks.
Also, can it be changed overnight by new legislation?
@Dubloony
“For many people, they are reasonably content […] with the outcome.”
Who are you speaking for here? How many is ‘Many’? The protest in December did not provoke a government U-turn, it simply provoked a temporary concession on the charges. Unwanted water meters are still being installed. The large protest in January was ignored by media who, like you, are trying to pretend the problem has gone away. Either you’re commenting through your arse, or else deliberately misinterpreting events. What part of “we won’t pay|” or “you can stick your water meters up your arse” don’t you get?
The problem of poor water infrastructure has not gone away. Ask the people of Roscommon,
I want fresh, clean potable water for every citizen of this country.
I’ve hard nothing from the “we won’t pay” protests that gives any sort of detailed engineering plan, alternative structure that would address this.
Paying for water is something that happens in all functioning European countries for continuous investments to ensure supply.
valid thinking and I don’t think too many disagree all round with this thinking
but (and its a big butt excuse the pun) I’m very interested in the mechanics of who I’m paying exactly…I’m an Irish citizen, I’m not a default customer of some makey uppey corporation
+1
““we won’t pay” protests that gives any sort of detailed engineering plan, alternative structure that would address this.”
1. We already pay for water through general taxation
2. If additional investment is required, raise more taxes through a PROGRESSIVE taxation system (the more you earn, the higher the marginal rate, an additional tax on incomes over €100,000) and a reformed tax allowances system (eg millionaire pension contributions get the same rate of relief as standard worker).
Oh, and
3. Call a halt to the grossly mismanaged Irish Water, take a step back and debate and agree a structure which can competently manage the water system.
“We already pay for water through general taxation”
We don’t. We contribute towards it, that’s all. Simply put our outgoings are bigger than our tax take.
Number 1 is a nonsense in fairness.
We already pay for water and it is disingenuous for you to suggest we don’t. €1.2 billion a year it allegedly costs us already. Where has that money gone? Can you show us the receipts? Why have the people of Roscommon paid their share only to be denied the service they are entitled to? Why has the state given DOB close to €2 billion in order to build a “billing system” with no guarantee that water services will actually be improved?
Why should we pay again for a service that is already paid for?
Hey Zuppy, when you say “we already pay” who are you speaking for? Is it the same people who you were speaking for when you said “we won’t pay”?
Also Zuppy, did you ever get public transport? Or go to school? Or go to see a medical professional? We fund all of these things through central taxation so I presume if you did any of these things you refused to pay again for the service.
Can we see a lodgement receipt for the amounts “already paid for”? Thanks Zuppy.
Hey Zuppy, when you say “we won’t pay” who are you speaking for?
I don’t speak for anybody. I stand for myself as do the hundreds of thousands of others who oppose this unjust and unlawful double taxation. “We won’t pay” is a chant on the streets from the sovereign people who – since November – have brought Dublin city to a halt 3 times. You ignore us at your peril.
What peril are we in if we ignore you? Please be more specific Zuppy.
I ignore you at my peril? Are you the sinister fringe that I’ve heard so much about?
‘ sovereign people ‘ – I hope that’s just a rhetorical flourish and not Freeman ideology rearing it’s malformed head…
USC , Inheritance tax , VAT on condoms and tampons,
a NON PROGRESSIVE property tax,
theres a lot more to be pissed off about in the general tax system , than fighting the water billing quango mess alone.
@ Shockabilly
Article 6 of the Constitution of the Irish State:
“All powers of government, legislative, executive
and judicial, derive, under God, from the people,
whose right it is to designate the rulers of the
State and, in final appeal, to decide all questions
of national policy, according to the requirements
of the common good.”
This means the government of the state must serve the interests of the people, not the other way around. Edna and co seem to have overlooked this provision.
Because a functional, leak-free water delivery and waste water treatment system is not in the interests of the people?
And the monies to build these functional services have been provided through the revenue system for decades. The people have paid their way, the state has failed to provide the services that are already funded. Incompetence, corruption, a master plan to let DOB own everything, take your pick of the reasons: the point is the state is failing in its duty to the common good.
Money In < Money Out.
The options are repair the water system slowly as per the money available and, when it is working correctly in several years time, then upgrade the waste treatment plants.
Or raise more money by charging people for their usage of the system and fund the repairs and upgrades sooner.
The people in Roscommon seem less than happy with their water at the moment. I'm sure they're delighted that you want them to put up with it for a few more years because "we won't pay" (even though "we already pay").
The most viable solution is to remove the corruption of a state that is more interested in enriching the already rich than it is in fulfilling it’s duty to the common good.
We have already paid for a water system. If it’s a dysfunctional system then the state should fix it (with the billions we have already paid). That is the responsibility of the state and their obligation to the people. What makes you think that handing over even more money to DOB will fix anything?
It won’t.
*Waggles fingers* Ooooh, scary!
sure that’s a big swiss cheese, best case it trusts the position set out to the govt of the day, needs to be written in stone, constitutional
regarding the .pdf there, I don’t accept the concept of “Irish Water”…wondering where that leaves me and people like me?
Not one banker or politician has served time in Ireland despite the many millions spent on corruption tribunals, trials and inquiries over the years…
Just sayin..
Ray Burke, just sayin..
Ivor Callely.
Just sayin..
Liam Lawlor, just sayin’
…”they heavily banged”….
Thats what I took from that. I have issues.
They did?
Gonna read it now… better be good!
The 4 arrested this morning have apparently been released without charge.
If my maths are correct that makes 8 high profile arrests in 2 days and 0 charges.
Who’s really pulling the strings here?
Zey are only following ze orders of the Minister for Homelessness: Joan Burton
